The dark van tore through the darkened winding roads, the tires humming a low tune against the asphalt. Inside, the cabin was dim, illuminated only by the faint blinking light of the dashboard lights and the occasional streak of passing headlights.

“...on our way…”

Emily's voice was a distant hum in my ears as I sat huddled in the corner of the back seat, staring blankly out the window as the shadowy fences of the Giordano estate vanished completely into the distance.

My fingers were buried dee

  • Dangerous Game: The Devil's Secretary    Mouse in a trap!

I glanced over my shoulder into the parlor. Rocco was gently holding Zayn's hand, softly telling him he was going to show him around the garden to help him relax. Zayn nodded with a timid, sweet smile.I shook my head, turned around, and walked up the stairs to my bedroom.I locked my door, pulled out my phone, and typed a quick message to Laurent.-You're being way too dramatic-A minute later, Laurent replied.-I have to act dramatic, Enzo! If I don't throw a fit after having my house raided, Dante will know something is wrong!-I rolled my eyes, typing back. -Keep it up then. It's better for all of us if Marco is distracted trying to baby you-Laurent sent another text back immediately.-I hope you know what you're doing, Lorenzo. Just make sure Liam and Steph stay safe-I read the message, scoffed in irritation, and didn't bother replying. I tossed the phone onto my nightstand, kicked off my shoes, and threw myself onto the bed, staring up at the dark ceiling. That night, I could

  • Dangerous Game: The Devil's Secretary    Easy peasy!

"Are you fucking out of your mind?" Dante’s roar blasted through the hallway as he stood in the middle of the living room, his face dark with rage. "You just vanish into thin air without a single guard, turning off your phone like a spoiled brat! I swear to God, you are stressing me out so much I am going to ship your useless ass right back to Paris on the next private jet!"I didn't utter a single word. I lowered my head, biting my lower lip and clasping my hands tightly behind my back, looking like a trembling, pitiful puppy about to be kicked.Standing behind Dante, Marco caught my eye and subtly raised two fingers, signaling me to keep my mouth shut.I knew why Dante was on a total rampage. He was losing his mind because he still hadn't found William. The lack of control was eating him alive from the inside out, and I just happened to be the easiest target to vent his frustration on.Once Dante finally took a breath, I raised my head slowly, looking up at him with wide, shiny, in

  • Dangerous Game: The Devil's Secretary    I know what you are!

The tires of my SUV crunched over the gravel driveway as I pulled up to the estate.I glanced around the courtyard and noticed Dante’s car wasn't here yet. I let out a soft, amused chuckle, leaning back against my seat for a second. “Thank you to my lucky stars,” I thought, grinning to myself. I had actually managed to beat Dante back home. If he had arrived before me, he would have dragged me into his study and grilled me like a criminal. However, parked near the fountain was Rocco's massive, rugged pickup truck. “Tch!” I hissed. Dante wasn't home yet but that brute was. I parked, hopped out of the car, and smoothed down my oversized hoodie. I greeted the two guards standing by the double doors with a bright, sunny wave. "Morning, boys! Lovely day, isn't it?"They nodded respectfully, stepping aside. I practically bounced through the front entrance, my mood soaring as I shouted at the top of my lungs right from the entrance."Rocco! Oh, big brother! Where the hell are you?""Shut t

  • Dangerous Game: The Devil's Secretary    Don't be clingy... it's Enzo's rule!

I rolled my eyes, taking a deep breath to flush the dark edge completely out of my system. In a second, I put my signature mask back on. I swiped the green button, pressing the phone against my ear."Marco! Hey, big guy, what's up?" I chirped, my voice instantly turning light, sweet, and completely airheaded."Where the hell are you, Lorenzo?" Marco’s deep voice barked through the speaker. "You weren't in your room this morning! Where did you go?""Aww, were you looking for me?" I giggled, stepping slightly away from the bed. "I just snuck out for some morning coffee! You know how terrible the espresso machine at the mansion is.""You don't just leave the house without telling anyone!" Marco snapped, sounding exasperated. "Dante is really pissed off right now, Enzo. He's been losing his shit when he called for you and you weren't home.”“Ahh, I just went out for coffee bro.” “And you can get coffee at home.” He shot back. “Besides, who gets coffee that early?” “Apparently, I do.”Af

  • Dangerous Game: The Devil's Secretary    Needy redhead!

I stepped further into the room, closing the door behind me. Raymond’s icy blue eyes tracked every single move I made, staring at me like a predator eyeing its favorite meal."Where the hell have you been?" Raymond asked, taking a slow drag from his cigarette and blowing the gray smoke directly toward the ceiling.I rolled my eyes, walking right past him toward the small wooden table in the corner. "None of your damn business."He scoffed, flicking his cigarette ash onto the filthy carpet. "If you're going to come in here throwing a pathetic attitude, you shouldn't have come at all, Enzo."My eyes narrowed into tight, dangerous slits. I turned around and walked straight up to him.Raymond towered over me. He was taller, broader, with huge shoulders wrapped in that tailored suit, but his massive size didn't scare me for a second. I stopped right in front of his chest, glaring up at him with a cold smirk."Oh, please," I scoffed, my tone dripping with pure arrogance. "If I hadn't come,

  • Dangerous Game: The Devil's Secretary    Poison and blood!

After seven long days, the door finally unlocked, and I was dragged out to be presented to my father in his office.I could barely walk. My feet dragged on the carpet, my skin was deathly pale, and my eyes were completely dry. I couldn't make a sound even if I tried.Don Giordano sat behind his massive mahogany desk. He leaned forward, grabbing my chin with his large, rough fingers, turning my face side to side as he examined my features.A cruel, sharp grin spread across his face. "Well, well... look at that. This one actually looks more like me than the others."I couldn't move. I just stared at him with empty eyes."Take him," the old man ordered the guards. "Clean him up, feed him, and treat his wounds. He'll join the games in a few years."I didn't know what the games meant, and I didn't care. I wasn't happy to be let out. I didn't care that the rat bites didn't hurt anymore. The only thing occupying my mind was Dante. It was a servant in the kitchen who finally told me what had

“Fuck.” I cussed. Was I really going to hell with these criminals? "Keep your head down!” Dante said as he docked my head low. He held my cheeks as he looked into my eyes. “Stay calm!" His voice was a steady command as it cut through the noise.Stay calm? The thought was absurd. I was trapped in a

The digital clock on my bedside table read 2:14 am. The entire mansion was silent and I was dressed in all black, the dark clothes blending into the shadows of my room. My bag lay open on the floor, the small, sleek device inside its only content. It was a CCTV deactivation device. It was a piece o

  • Dangerous Game: The Devil's Secretary    Disappointed

My breath hitched in my throat as Dante’s hazel eyes pinned me to the spot. Wait? Did he just call me fragile? That sounded like both an insult and a challenge all at once. Before I could respond, a muscular man from behind him cleared his throat. "Boss, we have somewhere to be," he said, his voi

There was a knock on the door and Emily walked in. “Sir,” she said with a formal tone. Chief nodded before looking at me again. “Agent Emily here is going to be working with you on the case.” I frowned. “I tend to work alone sir. Besides, I don't think it's wise to send two agents on the field.
