Chapter 6

Lana – POV

Morning comes too quickly.

Sunlight filters softly through the curtains of the hotel suite, casting warm streaks of gold across the room.

For a moment, I stay still, staring at the ceiling.

Last night plays through my mind like a slow, dangerous memory.

The balcony.

The elevator.

The hallway.

Ethan.

My stomach tightens.

I slowly turn my head.

The other side of the bed is empty.

Cold.

He’s already gone.

A strange mixture of relief and disappointment settles in my chest.

Maybe it’s better this way.

No awkward conversation.

No complicated questions.

Just one reckless night in Dubai that ends quietly with the morning.

I sit up, pulling the sheet around myself as I glance toward the clock.

8:12 AM.

My meeting with the company executives is at 9.

“Perfect,” I mutter.

Exactly the kind of morning-after situation I was trying to avoid.

I get up quickly and head into the shower, letting the warm water wake me up and wash away the lingering haze of the night before.

Focus, Lana.

You’re here for work.

That’s it.

By the time I leave the hotel, I’m dressed in a crisp white blouse and tailored black trousers, my hair neatly tied back into a professional bun.

Executive consultant mode.

Calm.

Confident.

Untouchable.

The black car sent by the company is already waiting outside the hotel.

The ride to the headquarters is short, but the closer we get, the tighter the knot in my stomach becomes.

Maybe it’s just nerves.

Big clients usually make me a little anxious at first.

But something about today feels… different.

The company building rises in front of me like a glass tower reflecting the morning sun.

Impressive.

Powerful.

Exactly the kind of place that hires consultants like me.

Inside, the lobby is sleek and modern.

The receptionist greets me politely.

“Good morning. You must be Ms. Vale.”

“Yes.”

“They’re waiting for you upstairs.”

She gestures toward the elevators.

I thank her and step inside.

The elevator ride feels strangely long.

My reflection stares back at me from the mirrored walls.

Composed.

Professional.

No one would ever guess what happened last night.

The elevator dings.

Thirty-fifth floor.

The executive level.

A woman in a grey suit greets me as soon as the doors open.

“Ms. Vale? Please come with me. The board is already assembled.”

“Of course.”

My heels echo softly against the polished floor as we walk down the hallway.

Large glass windows reveal breathtaking views of the city.

But I barely notice them.

My attention is focused on the double doors at the end of the corridor.

The boardroom.

The assistant stops and opens the door.

“Right this way.”

I step inside.

And immediately freeze.

The room is filled with executives seated around a long polished table.

But that’s not what stops me.

It’s the man sitting at the head of the table.

Ethan.

For a split second, my brain refuses to process what I’m seeing.

He’s dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, looking completely composed.

Completely professional.

Completely different from the man who held me in his arms last night.

Our eyes meet instantly.

And the recognition there sends a shock through my entire body.

Oh.

My.

God.

He knew.

He knew exactly who I was coming to meet.

But the shock isn’t over yet.

Because sitting beside him is another man who looks strikingly similar.

Younger.

But unmistakably related.

He stands as soon as I enter the room.

“Ms. Vale,” he says warmly. “Welcome. I’m Daniel Hale.”

Hale.

The name echoes in my mind.

My company briefing flashes back to me instantly.

Hale Industries.

The powerful corporation I was hired to consult for.

Daniel Hale.

The executive I’m supposed to work closely with during the restructuring project.

Which means—

My stomach drops.

My eyes slowly shift back to Ethan.

Daniel continues speaking, unaware of the chaos unfolding inside my head.

“This is my brother, Ethan Hale.”

The words feel like a bomb exploding in my chest.

“CEO of Hale Industries.”

Of course he is.

Of course the man I spent the night with is the CEO of the company I’m consulting for.

Because the universe clearly has a sense of humor.

Daniel gestures toward the woman standing beside Ethan.

“And this is Selene Park.”

Selene.

The name hits me like another shock.

Selene.

The woman Ethan mentioned.

The one his family arranged for him to marry.

Selene smiles politely and offers her hand.

“It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Vale.”

I force my hand to move.

“Nice to meet you too.”

My voice sounds calm.

Professional.

Like nothing is wrong.

Like my world isn’t spinning slightly right now.

But when I glance toward Ethan again…

His gaze is still locked on mine.

Steady.

Unapologetic.

Like we share a secret no one else in this room knows.

And the worst part?

For a brief moment…

The corner of his mouth lifts into the faintest hint of a smile.

As if he’s remembering last night too.

My heart pounds wildly in my chest.

Because suddenly I realize something terrifying.

Working here is going to be far more complicated than I ever imagined.

And somehow…

This is only the beginning.

  • Dating The Wrong Brother   When the Noise Fades

Chapter 37 Lana – POV The building is finally quiet. For the first time in two days, the endless noise has stopped. No reporters shouting questions. No investors calling every ten minutes. No board members demanding emergency meetings. Just silence. I’m sitting in my office long after most employees have gone home, staring at the city lights outside the window. Dubai looks peaceful from this height. Which is ironic. Because inside this building, nothing feels peaceful. The press conference helped. The headlines are already shifting. Now the articles talk about the restructuring results instead of my past. But the damage isn’t completely gone. And Selene is still out there. Planning something. A knock on the door breaks my thoughts. “Come in.” Ethan steps inside. He closes the door quietly behind him. “You’re still here,” he says. “So are you.” He walks farther into the room, loosening his tie slightly. “You handled the press conference well.” “You did most o

  • Dating The Wrong Brother   The Press Conference

Chapter 36 Lana – POV By noon, the situation has become impossible to ignore. The headlines about my past are spreading quickly. Financial news outlets. Corporate blogs. Even social media accounts run by business analysts. Everyone suddenly has an opinion about my career. Most of them are wrong. But that doesn’t stop the damage. I’m sitting in Ethan’s office reviewing another article when Daniel walks in. “Well,” he says. “This escalated quickly.” “That’s an understatement.” He drops his phone on the desk in front of me. Another headline appears on the screen. “Consultant Behind Hale Industries Restructuring Linked to Controversial Corporate Collapse.” I close my eyes briefly. “That project was five years ago.” “I know.” “The company was already failing before I got involved.” Daniel nods. “But the media loves simple stories.” “And this one is simple.” “Powerful CEO.” “Controversial consultant.” “Corporate romance.” I sigh. “That sounds terrible when you s

  • Dating The Wrong Brother   The Hidden Contract

Chapter 35 Lana – POV The next morning begins with silence. Not peaceful silence. The kind that comes before something explodes. When I step into the executive floor of Hale Industries, the atmosphere feels tense again. More tense than yesterday. Which shouldn’t be possible. But apparently, things can always get worse. I reach my office just as my phone buzzes. Daniel. “Come to Ethan’s office,” he says immediately. “Good morning to you too.” “This isn’t a social call.” “What happened?” “Just come.” The call ends. That’s never a good sign. ⸻ When I enter Ethan’s office, both brothers are already there. Daniel stands near the desk, arms crossed. Ethan is reviewing something on his laptop. The tension between them is obvious. “What’s going on?” I ask. Daniel doesn’t answer immediately. Instead, he places a folder on Ethan’s desk. “You want to explain this?” he asks. Ethan looks up. “What is it?” “Something I found in my office last night.” Ethan opens the f

  • Dating The Wrong Brother   Under the Cameras

Chapter 34 Lana – POV I should have known the media wouldn’t give up so easily. The moment I step out of the building that evening, I realize exactly how bad things have become. At least twelve reporters are waiting outside the main entrance of Hale Industries. Cameras. Microphones. Phones held up like weapons. The moment they see me, everything explodes. “Ms. Vale!” “Lana!” “Is your relationship with Ethan Hale affecting company decisions?” “Did you manipulate the restructuring contract?” The questions come from every direction at once. I freeze for a second. Daniel, who had been walking beside me, mutters under his breath. “Great.” Security immediately steps forward, trying to control the crowd. But the reporters push closer. “Ms. Vale, can you comment on the scandal?” “Did the CEO give you unfair authority?” “Are investors right to question your role?” My heart starts racing. This isn’t just uncomfortable. It’s humiliating. Daniel leans closer. “Keep walki

  • Dating The Wrong Brother   Damage Control

Chapter 32 Lana – POV By the time the morning meeting begins, the tension inside Hale Industries has become impossible to ignore. The scandal is no longer just media gossip. Now it’s affecting the company. Assistants rush through the executive floor with worried expressions. Phones ring constantly. And several department heads are already waiting outside the conference room. Investors. My stomach tightens as I step inside. Ethan is already there, sitting at the head of the long table. Daniel stands near the window, scrolling through his phone. When he looks up, he shakes his head slightly. “That bad?” I ask quietly. “Worse.” “Fantastic.” Ethan glances at both of us. “Let’s start.” The door closes. Six investors sit across from us. Their expressions are polite. But tense. One of them, Mr. Al-Farid, clears his throat. “Mr. Hale,” he begins. “We appreciate you meeting with us so quickly.” “Of course,” Ethan replies calmly. “We have concerns.” “That’s understan

Chapter 30 Lana – POV By midday, the scandal is everywhere. Financial news sites. Corporate blogs. Social media. Everywhere. My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing since the first article appeared. Some messages are supportive. Others are far less kind. “Corporate favoritism.” “Consultant sleeping her way to the top.” I stop reading after that. “Don’t read the comments.” Ethan’s voice comes from across the hotel suite. He’s standing by the window, speaking quietly on the phone with someone from the company’s PR team. “I wasn’t planning to,” I reply. “Good.” He ends the call and turns toward me. “They’re preparing a statement.” “That sounds serious.” “It is.” “What are you telling them?” “That the rumors are exaggerated.” My eyebrow lifts slightly. “That’s one way to describe it.” His mouth curves faintly. “You’re not helping.” I sigh. “This is getting worse.” “Only temporarily.” “Ethan, the entire corporate world thinks I manipulated you.” “I don’t.” “That’s
