Vince’s pov
I woke up to an agitated wolf. I ignored it, assuming my wolf didn’t like spending the night in another pack. It was the first time I did that ever since I was declared as the Silverstone’s alpha. After freshening up, I went downstairs, assuming that breakfast would have been ready. When I went downstairs, the omegas were rushing around, obeying each of their luna’s stern orders. She was mumbling something about someone not waking up on time. Apparently something wasn’t right.
I waited at the base of the staircase, studying the surroundings. Her lips formed a wide smile as soon as she realised I was there.
“Alpha Vince! You are up already?” she said.
“Yes,” I said, studying the surroundings. “Is everything alright?”
“Of course. Everything’s fine. It’s just that breakfast is running a little later than we expected,” she said with a nervous laugh. “This is very embarrassing. I assure you that this isn’t a common occurrence in Moonshine.”
“Oh,” I said, glancing at the omegas who were rushing to get things done. Perhaps they overslept after hosting the party the previous night. There was no reason to be concerned about that.
“That’s okay, maybe they were tired after last night. I can take a walk and look around. I am not in a rush to have breakfast,” I said.
She offered a rather forced smile and nodded her head. “Thank you for understanding, and sorry about the delay.”
I strolled towards the exit. A strange urge to barge into the kitchen made me slow down. Frowning, I glanced at the chaotic omegas once again. It was unreasonable to break into another pack’s kitchen and interrupt the omega’s work, yet my wolf was in unrest. He wanted me to march right into the kitchen. Despite my wolf’s whines and grumbles, I left the pack house. If I were to give in to each of my wolf’s whines, I wouldn’t be successful. Hence I had taught myself to withstand desires and acting on impulse.
***
The walk was unsettling. My wolf was acting rather strangely. He wouldn’t stop whining until I returned to the pack house. I returned, not expecting the breakfast to be prepared, but when a mouthwatering scent hit my nostrils, I was instantly drawn towards the kitchen area.
With each step I took, the aroma intensified, and so did the mayhem in my chest. It was strange. I never felt like that before. My wolf almost took over my body, but I disciplined my beast. When I looked into the dining room, I saw that the alpha family of the Moonshine pack and two of our neighbouring alphas were already seated at the dining table. The omegas were serving the dishes one by one. I wouldn’t lie, the food looked and smelt good, but I just knew that this particular fragrance that attracted me didn’t come from the food.
“Alpha Vince! Please come. We are waiting for you.”
I ignored the alpha of Moonshine. I had to. The aroma was driving me crazy. It wasn’t until my wolf said the word I realised what was going on.
“Mate!” He grumbled.
I froze. Mate? My mate was in Moonshine? My gaze wandered around the place, desperately searching for her. Yes, I wasn’t in a rush to find a mate, but crossing paths with the one meant the time was perfect for that.
Tensed, I started to follow the scent more vigorously than before. Mate… my mate was in the vicinity, and I had to find her. If I didn’t, my wolf wouldn’t allow me to rest even for a second. I took a deep breath. This time, I was sure the incredible scent was coming from a closed door to my right.
The Moonshiners uttered some words that I couldn’t understand. The words they uttered reached my ears like pure nonsense. Right then, I felt that finding my mate was the only thing that mattered. Someone reached out to stop me from opening the door, but I wasn’t in a state to care. After swinging the hand away, I opened it.
Her fragrance overwhelmed my emotions as soon as I did, but what was that? Why was her scent mixed with that of blood? My eyebrows knitted together as I walked inside.
“Mate?” I whispered, trying to find her. Why she was hiding in the pantry was a question that lingered in my mind until I saw a pretty brunette, lying motionless on the floor. My lips parted. She wasn’t hiding. She was lying on the floor… but why?
The creases on my forehead deepened. So many questions raced through my mind as I crouched to check on her. Was she asleep or unconscious? Why wasn’t she moving?
Despite the dimly lit environment, I scrutinised her face. It took a short while for the truth to dawn upon me. The bruises on her skin, the dried blood on her face, and her torn shirt narrated tales of horror.
My wolf roared in anger upon realising that my mate hadn’t had the best life. As my blood boiled, I scrutinised the surroundings. She was lying on a sheet of cloth. There were neatly folded clothes on the side and an old, stained pillow beside her. My heart broke for her. Was this her life?
I gently traced her cheeks. Sparks that exploded between our skin were proof that she wasn’t dead. That was a relief, but I was sure that she was badly hurt. Why else was she lying on the floor while all the omegas worked their asses off? Without thinking twice, I picked her up and walked towards the exit.
Their alpha sighed heavily as soon as he saw me. “Alpha Vince. Leave her. She isn’t worth your time…”
“Why is she kept in the pantry? Doesn’t she have a room?”
Curious gazes looked my way, but none of them dared say anything until another alpha voiced his thoughts.
“Vince is right. Regardless of their rank, every pack member deserves their own room if they are living in the pack house.”
“She sleeps in the pantry. We don’t feel that she deserves the privilege of a regular pack member.”
“Why is that? And why the hell is she bruised and bloodied? She is apparently hurt. Why isn’t she in the hospital? Is this how you treat your omegas when they get hurt?” I said, unhappy about their Luna’s remark.
He stood up from his seat and started to gesture with his hands as if he wanted me to calm down.
“Alpha Vince, she isn’t a regular omega. If you knew who she was, you also wouldn’t care about her,” he said.
I grimaced, doubting that they could have a good enough justification. “Well, explain.”
He looked around and heaved a sigh. “Her father was one of the masterminds behind the fall of our kingdom. We couldn’t execute his five-year-old daughter, so we took her in as a slave.”
My anger went through the roof. A slave? They were treating my beloved soulmate like they owned her? I bet beating her was a regular thing. That could explain the bruises and the blood.
“You mean you were treating her like shit since she was five? A slave? Are you out of your mind? She was a little pup. How could you think it was acceptable to punish her for something that was out of her control? She couldn’t help to whom she was born.”
To say I was furious would be an understatement. If I wasn’t holding my dear mate in my arms, I would have allowed my wolf to emerge and tear every one of them down.
“But…”
I snarled at their daughter, silencing her at once. That seemed to piss their Alpha off. His countenance darkened as he glared at me, but his fury didn’t bother me.
“Alpha Vince. I have great respect for you, but are you seriously going to scorn my daughter for her? A traitor’s spawn? She isn’t your pack member anyway, and hence, it’s none of your business. Leave my pack member where she belongs, Alpha Vince, and please, leave my turf.”
Narrowing my eyes, I gave him a critical glare. “Oh, she is my business, because she is my mate. I will gladly leave your territory, Alpha Charles, but there is no way I am leaving her with her abusers a second longer.”
As I walked away, I heard them whispering behind my back. I couldn’t give two flying fucks about what they thought after the state I found my mate in. I was taking her home.
“Alpha Vince!”
I halted when their heir, Chad, called my name. I glanced over my shoulder. Perhaps the young Alpha would understand the atrocity of his parent’s actions. I hoped to hear something positive from him, but what he said next left me speechless.
“How could she be your mate? She was my soulmate last night.”
Hey all. I hope everyone is enjoying this story. Please add it to your library and give it some love. :*
Maya’s povDespite having Vince accompany me into the depth of the woods to meet the Elders, my heart pounded hysterically in my chest. I was anxious of being blamed for the deaths of our late King and Queen. The ones I never got to meet. I inhaled a deep breath when I saw a tiny cottage standing in the middle of nowhere. That must be their home. With each step I took towards their place, my heart raced. Vince, perhaps sensing my unrest, took my hand and laced his fingers with mine. The sparks of our bond gave me some relief. He stopped walking and faced me to cup my face. “Hey, are you ready for this?” he asked. I forced a smile as I nodded my head. Of course I was ready despite my nervousness. “I am just a bit anxious. I’ll be fine though.”He studied my face for a while before giving me a subtle nod. “I won’t leave you. Okay?” A smile curled on my lips. I already knew he wouldn’t but hearing him say it gave me immense satisfaction. We held hands as he knocked on the wooden doo
Maya’s povI raised my eyebrows, a little surprised. I thought he wouldn’t see that, and it all would once again become a memory, just like all the other times. I thought I would probably end up thinking it was an illusion or something I could never prove happened. This time, my mate saw it happen. It was real. “That happened, didn’t it?” I mumbled. He nodded his head. “I knew you were close. My wolf and I could sense your presence but couldn’t pinpoint your location until you emerged out of the bushes. Then I saw you frantically waving your hands and then the branch flying towards Chad. You didn’t touch it.”My eyebrows wrinkled together. “Yeah… I honestly don’t know how that happened. It just happened,” I told him, shrugging my shoulders. “Is this the first time?” he asked me.I shook my head. “The first time was during the battle against the rogues. The second time was when I saw the arrow approaching me the other day. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. But now that you
Maya’s povThough she appeared to be confused, she offered a smile as she walked closer to me. Her demeanour spoke volumes. She didn’t expect to find me here, and she most certainly wasn’t hostile towards me. “Luna Maya! What a surprise,” she said. “What are you doing in this lonely shed? This was built to store random stuff…” Her frown deepened. “Actually… why are you in Moonshine? Shouldn’t you be in Silverstone unless you are on an official visit?”Her gaze drifted towards my bruised wrists. Although the red marks were fading away – thanks to the super healing power – there were signs of my struggle against the iron chains. Her eyes found mine once again. Perhaps something dawned on her. Her frown disappeared and her lips parted. “Wait…” she said, lunging towards the door I just ran out of. After swinging the door open, she looked inside. She must have seen the chains and the bed and realised that the place didn’t contain any stored items. Perhaps it was built for that purpose, b
Maya’s povIf Eleanor hadn’t been there for me, I would have gone insane in that lonely place. I was glad she was there to knock sense into me so that I didn’t exhaust myself screaming for Chad to come back. Instead, I put my strength into trying to break free. The chains seemed to be made up of iron, and if the drug hadn’t weakened her, she would have been able to break it. She needed time to heal… something I probably didn’t have. I didn’t know when he would return. And I dreaded a time he would attempt to touch me again. I was afraid that he might try to force himself on me. I have come to one realisation after talking to him. He was eager to mate with me. An arsehole. Was sex the only thing on most men's minds? Did they see us only as that? Objects to be used and discarded when they were done? I genuinely felt bad for Alana. She had foolishly allowed that douchebag into her life. As time passed, I started to get weak and hungry. My stomach grumbled. I pressed my lips together a
Vince’s povHe didn’t concede, and I sent a mind link to my beta and all the generals that he was removed from power until further notice. Was it easy? Absolutely not. I hated having to send that mind link. But would I do it again for my mate’s sake? Abso-fuckin-lutely yes! It was the right thing to do. He shouldn’t have harmed my mate and the pack’s luna.He protested when he realised that he was no longer allowed in the office, but it had to be done. I could no longer trust him. He would thwart any attempts to find out where my mate was as long as he was able to collaborate closely with the warriors. Pay attention to him. Until we have concrete evidence, we cannot put him in jail. Until I discover evidence against him, he will continue to be treated and respected as the former alpha, but keep an eye on him. I want to see who he contacts, where he goes… everything,” I told my beta as we watched him leave the pack house. “I sure will, Alpha. Do you think he might do something to Jer
Maya’s povAs soon as I opened my eyes, I jerked up. Unfortunately, I was chained to a bed. The chains weren’t silver. That was a relief. I guess Eric didn’t want to torture me. Not yet, at least. It was a wonder why he kept me alive this whole time. Well, it was time to escape before he returned. While tugging at the chains that confined me, I surveyed the niche. There weren’t any windows, and the only door seemed to be locked from outside. I didn’t expect him to leave it unlocked even if I was chained up. He wasn’t reckless. My escape would mean the end for him. The absence of windows made escape difficult. It was one thing to break the chains, but I had to come up with a plan to get out of the confinement.Eleanor stirred in my mind. My heart fluttered with excitement. When I lost her after being shot in the woods, I was so worried. “Eleanor!” My excitement was evident as I called out for her. I was so glad that whatever he injected me with didn’t put my wolf to sleep forever. “G
Vince’s povI slowly opened my eyes. I had to wince a few times before I got used to the light as it filtered through my eyelashes. It did not take me long to realise that I was on a hospital bed with an IV. My forehead wrinkled. Oh, yeah… the arrow. It must have caused a lot of trouble. I looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of my mate. She wasn’t there. What bothered me was that I wasn’t able to detect a whiff of her scent either. Although my wolf didn’t say a word, I could tell that he was disturbed about her absence. There wasn’t even a tiny hint of her aura in the blocked room. It was almost as though she never stepped inside it. I sighed. I wanted to believe that she was held back at the pack house because of the duties. With me in the hospital, all responsibilities would fall on her shoulders. The door of the hospital bed opened, and my beta walked in. His lips stretched into a broad smile as soon as he saw me. “Alpha! You are awake!” I smiled at him. “Hey, good to see
Chad’s povA white wolf... She was a white wolf. I couldn’t believe I rejected a white wolf. Who would have thought that her wolf, of all wolves, would be white? Ever since I found out that she was one, I regretted my rejection. Alana was fine. She lacked experience in the office but was spectacular in bed. I didn’t mind having her. But a white wolf? Being mated to one was a dream. White wolves were the most special since they were so rare. I heard that the royals were all white, but we only heard stories about them. By the time I started to walk, they were all killed. Few white wolves still lived in the north, but they didn’t have special powers like the royals. Either way, white wolves were considered special. Some elders claim that they are the descendants of the Royal family. And to think that I rejected one…My fingers clenched around the steering wheel as I sped down the deserted road. The headlight of my car illuminated the lonely woods. I was well outside my pack’s territory
Maya’s povI knew I couldn’t trust him. But I didn’t have a good reason to push him out of my life. Especially when my mate was happy about him making an effort. Unfortunately, my mate was too blinded by his respect and love for his father to see what I saw. The best I could do was keep my guard high. I didn’t expect him to find the one behind the arrow. Why would he do that? I bet he was the one who aimed that deadly spear at me. We continued with our daily routines. Early morning workouts, training, and then work in the office. Eric joined us every day. During every training session, he was there, helping my mate and his beta. It irked me at first. Being surrounded by his aura was unnerving, perhaps because I didn’t trust him. I hid my resentment for the sake of my mate. After all, his father’s advice seemed to help my beloved. Eric’s years of experience would benefit our pack. That was another reason I kept silent as long as he was helping out.As the days passed by, I started to
