Chapter 41

Hardly had Gerald settled into his leather armchair when his phone buzzed sharply on the glass table. The name “Mrs. Jameson” flashed across the screen.

He glanced at the time. It was late, and exhaustion weighed heavily on him like a lead blanket. All he wanted now was a long, hot shower and the solace of his bed.

“Why on earth is Brittany’s mother calling at this hour?” he muttered.

Still, he swiped to answer.

“Hello, Gerald,” came the unmistakably furious voice of Mrs. Jameson, slicing through the receiver like a whip.

“Hello…” Gerald responded wearily, his voice soaked in fatigue.

“I’m outside your gate. Tell your men to let me in—immediately.”

Just then, a voice came from behind him.

“Son, who’s calling this late?” It was Grandpa Xander, his tone casual yet curious.

Gerald let out a long sigh."Sabrina Jameson".

"What does she want?

Gerald shrugged. “I believe it’s about Brittany.”

Xander raised a bushy brow, concern mingling with amusement. “Trouble still brewing in pa

  • Dear husband I can live without you    Chapter 60: Leave me the hell alone

The moment Anna stepped into the motel with her luggage in one hand and Aiden’s small fingers curled into her other, her knees nearly buckled. She crossed the thin, worn carpet to the bed and dropped like a stone, the mattress catching her as if it knew she was seconds away from breaking apart. Her body trembled with silent sobs.Vivian had called her over and over — her phone vibrating like it was possessed — but Anna hadn’t picked up. She couldn’t. Not yet. Not after what had happened. What had started as a bright, golden California morning had ended in a storm she never saw coming. Of all the people in the world, she never thought her best friend would speak to her that way… look at her like she was nothing.Vivian — the friend who had once sworn they’d be like sisters forever. She had lost her marriage. Now she had lost a friend. The emptiness pressed in from all sides, as though the walls of the motel room were closing in.“Mummy… why are you crying?” Aiden’s small voice was a so

Dear Husband, I Can Live Without YouChapter 59Vivian stood there in the middle of the decorated suite, frozen in a tableau of roses and fairy lights. Guests clapped politely, their voices a strange, distant echo in her ears. Somewhere, someone said, “Say yes!” but her lips wouldn’t move.Erick’s warm smile was fixed on her, bouquet extended like a peace offering she didn’t deserve. She forced her lips to curve into something that looked like a smile. “Yes… of course,” she breathed, barely loud enough to be heard. The room erupted in cheers.Erick leaned in, kissed her cheek, and pulled her into an embrace. From the outside, she knew it must have looked perfect — the picture of a woman swept away by romance. But inside, she was crumbling.Every nerve in her body was still vibrating from the hotel lobby — from the slap, the hair-pulling, the venom she had spat without hesitation. And now… she knew the truth.Anna had been helping Erick all along.Guests surrounded them, offering congr

“The blog pictures didn’t do justice to your beauty,” Xander said with a grin that carried more weight than his casual tone suggested.Anna’s smile was polite, but she turned to Gerald with a quick sideways glance, mouthing silently, What blog is he talking about?“Now I know why Gerald can’t stop—”“Grandpa…” Gerald’s voice cut through sharply, low but edged with warning. The look he sent Xander could have frozen the Pacific.Xander stopped mid-sentence but didn’t lose his smirk.Anna’s gaze bounced between the two men, curiosity knitting her brow. She didn’t know what was going on, but the air between them felt charged with something unsaid.“Anna, can you join us for dinner tonight?” Xander asked smoothly, as if the awkward interruption had never happened.Anna offered a warm but apologetic smile. “I’d love to, but I’ve got somewhere important to be tonight. Maybe next time.”“Alright,” Xander nodded, leaning back.“I have to be on my way now.” She reached for Aiden’s small hand. “

Anna stood before the mirror, fingers deftly twisting her hair into a neat bun.“I booked us a session at the spa and salon today,” she announced casually, reaching for a hairpin.Vivian, perched on the edge of the bed, looked up at her—really looked at her.“What’s the occasion?” she asked, her tone light, but her eyes sharp. The suspicion in Vivian’s heart had been gnawing at her for days. She still hadn’t found the courage to confront Anna about that unexpected meeting with Erick at the restaurant.Anna’s lips curved into a small, knowing smile. “Well… let’s just say I’m giving myself a little makeover to celebrate my divorce from Andy.”Vivian blinked. “You… sent Andy a divorce?”Anna nodded without hesitation. “First thing I did when I left work.”“Wow.” Vivian let out a short, surprised laugh. Anna was serious. Dead serious. She wasn’t just talking about ending her marriage—she was already dismantling it.“I met with my attorney yesterday,” Anna continued. “By now, the documents

The morning sun spilled generously through the towering glass windows of the Roberts residence dining room, gilding the polished mahogany table in a warm, golden light. The air hung heavy with the faint scent of coffee and buttered toast, yet something about the morning felt… wrong. At the head of the table sat Andy, his fingers curled loosely around a porcelain coffee cup. His gaze lingered on the plate before him — scrambled eggs, toast, and a few tired slices of avocado whose green had surrendered to a murky brown. It wasn’t that he was ungrateful, but Andy knew at once this was far from the breakfast he had grown accustomed to. The eggs were dry, the toast bore uneven scars from the heat, and the coffee — pale and uninspired — was a cruel impersonation of the dark, bold brew that used to rouse him like a whispered promise at dawn.Across from him, Penelope reclined in a silk robe the colour of champagne, her long legs crossed beneath the table. She sipped delicately from her cup w

Chapter 55Gerald’s pen paused mid-stroke the moment Anna stepped into his office. One glance at her and every sense he possessed went on high alert. Her eyes—puffy, rimmed with redness—told a silent story she clearly didn’t want to share.Today, she hadn’t pulled her hair back into its usual neat bun. Instead, those long, golden strands tumbled freely over her shoulders, catching faint glints of the morning light. It was a beautiful contrast to her expression, yet it made her look softer… almost vulnerable. Her clothes were bright and corporate as always, but the brightness stopped there. Her face told a different tale. One that didn’t match her usual spark.“Good morning, Mr. Smith,” Anna greeted softly. The usual warmth and enthusiasm in her tone were missing, replaced by something flat… almost hollow.Gerald leaned back in his chair, narrowing his eyes. Something was off.“Anna?” His voice carried a weight of quiet concern. She turned slightly toward him. “Yes, sir?”“Is everythin
