Harper's POV
"Jump"
"Jump Harper. What else are you waiting for? There's nothing left for you in this world. End it all right now."
That little voice at the back of my head kept egging me on. I took in a deep breath and stood at the edge of the bridge with shaky feet. The wind kept pushing me further. The moon shone brightly as if mocking me for my predicament. The voice was right. It wasn't as if anyone would miss me anyway. If I jumped right now, my lifetime of misery would be over. I would finally have peace.
My fingers curled against the cold iron railings. I wondered if the cold water would feel welcoming or if it would hurt for a moment before everything finally went blank. My right foot hung over the edge. Just one more step and no more crying into my pillow at night, no more smiling and pretending I was fine. The waves rumbled and I hurriedly stepped back, falling on my back with a thud.
"Pathetic. You don't even dare to end it all. Coward!" the voice cackled taunting me. The courage I had earlier vanished with the wind.
"Harper! Harper! Are you alright?" Scott called out to me. I turned towards the direction of his voice and he was running towards me. Tears trickled down my cheek. I was nothing but a pathetic omega, a coward and a disgrace to the pack. I forced myself off the floor just as Scott reached me panting slightly. His hair had stuck to his forehead with sweat.
"What happened to your hand? Don't tell me, you tried to jump down again?" he asked in disbelief trying to take my bleeding hand in his. I pulled my hand away and snorted.
"Way to remind me about my inability to end my own life."
He sighed. "We talked about this. You promised me you wouldn't come back here again. You've been doing this for over a week. Don't you think it's time you stopped? You can't do it anyway, why torture yourself?"
His words made the tears flow harder and in no time I was sobbing loudly. He held me in his arms while I cried my eyes out. I knew there was no way I would be able to jump down the bridge, perhaps thinking I could for a while gave me some sort of temporary relief. He sneezed making me sniff and pull away from him.
He frowned staring at my dirty uniform. "Is that flour?" I nodded. It wasn't news to anyone at school that I was getting bullied. The students came up with new inventions to torment me each day. Someone apparently thought dumping a bucket of flour over me in the school hallway would be an interesting sight to see.
"I'm so sorry Harper. I don't get why everyone is so mean to you when you are so sweet."
"Not everyone. Aside from you, the newspaper man is nice to me and the cafeteria lady, she added an extra sausage to my lunch..." I paused internally berating myself for how stupid I sounded.
He smiled draping an arm over my shoulder. "Of course. Think about it. Everything would be all over soon. We have less than three months till we finish high school. We can go to college as we planned and finally put all these behind us."
I sighed. I haven't told him the truth yet but I wasn't sure that dream of mine would come true any longer.
He suddenly stopped. "What's with the long face? Is there something you are not telling me?"
"Are those chocolate chip cookies?"
"Don't do that."
"Do what?" I asked trying to reach out for the box in his hands. He raised his hands above his head. I jumped, trying to reach for it but who was I kidding? He was way taller than I was.
He raised a brow. "Really?"
"My college fund is gone," I mumbled kicking the pebbles on the floor in defeat.
"What? I thought no one could access the money except for you? How is that even possible..."
I gritted my teeth. The thought of the empty bank account made my head spin. My step-mother spent every dime my late father left for my college tuition on funding her multiple failed businesses. "That's what I thought too but then I found out last weekend that it's all gone. Every single penny."
"It's Stella, isn't it? How could she? That's why you've been acting off lately. Why didn't you say anything?" he asked in disbelief.
I smiled sadly. "I thought she was pulling her usual pranks till I saw the account details myself. My dreams of going to college and leaving this shit hole are going to remain nothing but a dream."
"Oh, Harper. I'm so sorry," he squeezed my hand reassuringly. I felt a lot better after telling Scott what had happened. I felt awful keeping it away from him. Scott has been a friend to me since we started high school. Regardless of what the other kids said and how they bullied me, he always defended me. I didn't know what I would do without him by my side.
"It's okay. I will figure something out. I always do." It sounded more like I was reassuring myself.
He handed the cookies to me just as my stomach grumbled with a small smile. I knew he got them for me because they were my favourites.
"I'm sure you will. Promise to tell me if there's anything I can do to help and to never come back here with any strange thoughts running through your mind..."
"Pinky promise," I nudged my shoulder with his cutting him off. He nudged mine back and we chuckled as I munched on the cookies. We got to a path that led to Scott's home. I waved at him, turning towards the direction of my own home. I could barely call it a home, it was just a place I slept in till I could afford to get out.
My smile faltered as soon as I left Scott's presence. I felt sorry for always dragging him into my mess. I took in a deep breath stopping in front of the house in front of me. It was small, barely more than a cottage. The roof sagged slightly in the middle and the front door creaked whenever it was opened. A narrow dirt path led to the entrance lined with stones and wild grass.
"You are back," Stella, my stepmother muttered stepping out of her room with a glass of wine in her hands as soon as I stepped in. I clenched my fists tightly. I wanted to give her a witty response but I bit my tongue in protest and simply nodded.
"Good. I have good news to share with you."
Her words got my attention, igniting a spark of hope in me. "Did you get my college fund back?"
She snickered. "I have way better news than that." The hope died down as fast as it came. She smiled moving closer towards me. I noticed quite a few changes in her. Her black hair which was usually in knots was combed neatly and curled behind her, her brown eyes were lit up in genuine excitement. And for once she wasn't wearing her slutty outfit. She had on an expensive knee-length gown which I knew she couldn't have afforded herself.
"Pack up your things step stepdaughter. Our lives have turned around for the better. We are moving out," she added twirling around.
I frowned. "Moving out? Where would we be going?"
"I got remarried," she replied twirling the huge diamond ring around her finger and sighing dreamily.
My mind went blank for the next few seconds. "W...what?"
"Long story short. I got married to the Alpha of our pack in court. He needed a mother figure for his kids and someone to redeem his public image. Who else could have done that better than me..."
"The Alpha? You mean our Alpha?" I asked cutting her off. Those were the only words I heard.
"That's right. I will become his Luna and his sons will become mine. You are going to have more siblings. Isn't that wonderful?" The room suddenly felt like it was spinning and a bucket of ice-cold water was dumped on me.
Chapter 24Harper’s POVI scooped the ice cream into their cones and took them out to where they were seated. I had a strawberry sunset perfect for Cole, a chocolate chip cookie dough which seemed suitable for Noah and a mint chocolate chip for Hayes. He was the only one I knew who liked the mint flavour. I handed each to them. “How did you know our favourite flavours?” Hayes asked with a raised brow. “I just guessed,” I shrugged feigning ignorance. There was no way I was letting them know I had stalked them on any tabloid I could find that had as much as a tiny detail on their lives. “Well good guess,” Cole commended. I watched them hesitate for a while. “Aren’t you going to take a bite? Are you scared I'll spit on it?”Cole stared at me warily. “Would you?”“Why wouldn’t I?” I replied holding his gaze in defiance. “I cannot take you seriously with that silly hat perched at the top of your head,” Cole retorted. I involuntarily touched my hat with my hands.Hayes took a bite from
Chapter 23Harper’s POVHer face was reddened with anger and shock. It was the most reaction I had ever seen her show in front of others. The salesgirl took the card from him. Whispers reverberated around us. That was all they could do. They knew better than to take pictures of the triplets. “Who is she?”“Where does she know them from?”“They really are as handsome and as generous as I’ve heard. Paying such a huge amount of money for someone like her.” Someone like her?Noah and Cole smirked. I internally scoffed. They were feeding off the songs of their praises. “Why…how could…why would you…” Laura stuttered in disbelief as words failed her. “Don’t you have somewhere to be?” Hayes inquired with a raised brow. Right. I didn’t as much as glance at any of their faces before dashing out. I rushed past the whispering people and didn’t stop till I got outside the mall. I texted Scott to assure him I was completely fine before heading towards the direction of the ice cream truck. It wa
Chapter 22Harper’s POVI tried to move, to hide, before they could spot me, but all that proved abortive. My stupid legs felt like they were stuck to the floor with glue. I gulped feeling anxiety slowly creeping in when Rachel smirked.“Is that the Omega trash?”Laura looked towards my direction. Her eyes widened when she saw me. She hurriedly drew the attention of the others. Allison and her lackeys along with two other girls and a boy approached me. I didn’t know them well enough to remember their names but I recognised their faces. It wasn’t hard to recognise the faces of people who tormented you each day. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?” Allison inquired with a raised brow folding her hands in front of her. She definitely wasn’t asking because she was concerned. “What? That can’t be true. You can’t die and leave us bored right?” Laura smiled curling my hair in her hands like I was a little doll only she wasn’t gentle like she would be with a doll. “Can you let go of my
Chapter 21Harper's POVEveryone's attention was beginning to get drawn to us. If this continued, I would be the talk of the school again. I've had enough of being the source of gossip for the day. "It's okay Scott. I will go with her," I assured him. He turned towards me refusing to budge. Stella scoffed. "Did you have any other option? Get in the car right now." I gave him a reassuring smile and squeezed his hand. Stella walked in front of me while I followed closely behind her. There was a sleek black luxury car right in front of us. "Is that her mother?""I don't think so. How can her mother be so wealthy?""If she is then I feel sorry for the poor woman. She's stuck with a loser forever." I overheard girls talking as we walked past them. I kept my gaze strictly forward without sparing them a glance. Stella got into the car and I did the same. I was surprised she didn't bring any driver with her. Then again, she wouldn't want the Alpha to realise she was gathering evidence ag
Chapter 18Harper's POV"Great job Miss Harrington. If you had submitted this when you were supposed to, you would have gotten an A," the teacher complimented me. I gulped fiddling with my fingers. I did the project but it was stolen from me, I wanted to say to her but I bit my tongue to hold myse
Chapter 17Allison’s POVI opened my eyes feeling arms around me. There was a slight ache on my head probably from all the wine we had last night. My phone buzzed from the repeated texts I was getting. I stood up on my feet unknowingly kicking a bottle from the many bottles littered on the floor. I
Chapter 20Harper’s POVMy heart was beating wildly in my chest. I couldn’t believe this was happening but it really was. Hayes grabbed my waist tighter and probed my mouth open with his tongue. I had no idea a kiss could be so intense. My legs felt like jelly. I tried to wrap my arms around his ne
Chapter 19Harper’s POVI had barely two months left until graduation. Getting expelled now would mean I endured all those hard years just to end up with nothing to show for it. “You’ve been suspended. Also, you won’t be able to apply for the college scholarship anymore,” she deadpanned. I stared
