The outing

I struggled lazily on my bed, fighting the evil sleep that was engulfing me. I was dreaming, trying to escape the one thing that always haunted me.

In my dream, I was in the oval moon pack, still very young. Thick smoke clouded the sky, and people were running to safety. I heard gunshots, and closed my eyes, trying to avoid the unimaginable terror.

I felt a warm hand grab my shoulder, and I shook in fear that I was already caught by the enemy. I ran, trying to escape from whoever was behind me, and in my haste I fell on the ground.

I closed my eyes and ears, waiting for the worst to happen. The footsteps of the stranger drew closer, and I had already accepted my fate.

"Hey, get up. let's go , come with me and I'll protect you." Said a quiet voice. I turned and there was a boy, some years older than me. He looked scared just like I was, while the cloud darkened the more, and more people fled. I woke up gasping for breath, and sweating from my night mare. I checked my phone, it was still very early.

By this time, the younger wolves must have started their training. We lost our alpha, and my brother Antonio, was made to assume the position. Even though he was now the alpha, it made no difference because he protected the pack with his life right from time. I'd have loved to watch their early morning training, but I was on vacation, and could use a few more hours of sleep. I shut my eyes trying to sleep, but sleep was far from me.

I lay on my bed, and replied to a few emails, and answered Mark's messages. My mind wandered off to the blue eyed stranger.

"He's our mate"

My wolf growled within me. She had been alert ever since she met him, and couldn't get her mind off him......

I had not left the house for a week scared that he might track my scent, and try to kidnap. however, I never met him again after that day. Maybe he didn't like me too, and probably wasn't interested in a mate. I was finally at peace, and was willing to check out the club Olivia was pestering me about. I changed into my barbie pyjamas, and went out of my room.

I found myself in the park's dining room, eating with everyone else. I would've eaten with Olivia and the rest, but I was tempted to eat without them around.

I was talking to a few pups about their warrior training, when Olivia sighted me. I saw her moving quickly in my direction, and I threw my face away so she wouldn't know I saw her.

"Finally out of your hole?"She chuckled.

"I wasn't hiding, just laying low." I replied. She was right though. Not many people had seen me ever since I bumped into that stranger.

My wolf lept in joy, as I pictured his face in my mind. I shook my head quickly to quit thinking about him.

"You haven't been at the training grounds either." Olivia rolled her eyes.

Wolves are very emotional beings. They're extraordinarily stronger than humans, so they require a lot of physical activity to remain fit, strong and agile.

our wolves also need regular extracurricular activities, like running through the woods. So at least running once a week is recommended, to refresh our wolves. Urban wolves like me do regular gyming. The packs wolves run during the weekends. The alpha ensured that all members of the pack including females were trained to fight. Rogue attacks and inter pack wars had reduced in modern times, but they still happened amongst more savage packs.

A woman who could not protect herself was like a burden during such wars, hence the instruction for them to join the males during training so that they'll be protected.

Mark once asked how I manage to carry heavy weights, despite my fragile figure. I could unalive him by just twisting his neck, but I never showed him my strength.

"ohh my goodness Olivia. I'm on vacation can't I just take a break?" I groaned exasperated.

I suddenly felt my stomach churn. This happens mostly when a wolf is pregnant.

"Olivia are you pregnant?" I asked.

She nearly choked on her apple juice and looked at me as if I was crazy. "No! I'm not in heat right now, and I'm not due till next week. Why did you ask?"

"I just had this strange feeling." I whispered.

"You're still doing that?"

"Doing what?" I asked, puzzled.

"Don't you remember? when we were kids you had this talent of saying things and they'll come to pass. More like soothsaying if you ask me ." Olivia shrugged.

"I did? how does it concern what I'm saying now?"

"it means I might become pregnant sooner or later." Olivia laughed.

"So you mean I can curse people too?" I rolled my eyes.

"Goodness no! being pregnant isn't a curse. " She blushed a little.

I smiled. Antonio and Olivia had been mates for as long as I could remember but unlike others, they believed in getting a university degree and experiencing life a little before starting a family. Olivia got a degree in medicine, and she also taught little pups in primary school sometimes. I was very proud of her.

"So you're saying I can see the future?" I chuckled.

"Maybe, it's up to you. But I'm certain that what you say sometimes happens." She said looking serious.

"Well, then I hope you get pregnant sooner, and have a cute little pup." I laughed, rubbing her belly, while pretending to cast a spell on her. Olivia laughed too, looking happy.

I looked at several mates holding onto each other tightly. Most wolves find their mates after turning 18, and some took longer. it is not I never tried looking for a mate. When I was eighteen, I usually attended mating parties and balls organized by different packs. I never found my mate, and some Alphas were a nuisance. They just wanted a strong alpha female to bear their pups. I soon gave up, and decided to face life as it is.

"You remember the club I told you about sometime ago? it's a new club, and it's already picking up. one of the influencers praised it on social media, and I think we should try it out. Are you even listening?" Olivia followed my eyes and gasped.

"What the hell is he doing here?"

"Who is he?" I asked, admiring the tall dark man emerging from a limousine. He couldn't see us, but we could see from the dining room.

"Alpha Mario. Antonio had an argument with him during the last alpha meeting." she blurted out.

"why?"

"They've been trespassing on our land, claiming they were being chased by rogues. This continued over and over again, so naturally, Antonio was pissed.

Ever since Olivia became the new Luna, she was working nonstop. She now had access to the meetings, and it's no wonder she knew about this feud.

"I feel guilty for not being there to help Antonio." I murmured.

"You could just move back here you know. I could use a hand, and I'm sure you can easily find a job here." Olivia suggested.

I bit my lip guiltily. I had considered returning back to the pack after college, but then I had an internship which was too tempting to refuse. It was at that time that I met my fiancee, mark.

"How are things by the way? is Antonio facing a lot of issues?"

After the death of the previous alpha, Antonio was made the new alpha because the previous one died childless.

"Well things are quite peaceful now. All packs are following the peace treaty, and those who do not, face sanctions." Olivia explained.

"That's such a relief." I said.

Not too long ago, the werewolf world was rocked with interpack fighting, some greedy Alphas and rogues had captured and looted other packs. They used to capture unmated females, and kill their alphas before claiming their packs.

They were rarely any female alphas leaders and the reason was not because the leadership ran through the males lineage alone, it was simply because the males were naturally stronger than the females. if an alpha lost the challenge, then the leadership passes on to the winner.

They are very few female alphas that are strong enough to beat all the males of a pack, so female alphas were extremely rare. The last strong one called Martha, ruled for about a hundred years. She was an alpha who ruled after her father's death.

I snorted. "I'm glad I'm not living here. I have never liked politics for once."

Olivia burst into laughter. I guess she didn't like politics too, but was forced because of the circumstances she found herself. We left the dining room to plan our club outing, and I was careful not to think about the blue eyed stranger anymore.
