Desirée Martin knew her time was coming. The party the celebrated the new members of the pack was coming up in the next week. Desi knew this was the thing she was supposed to be looking forward too as she would finally be an adult. The problem for her is that she knew she wasn’t ever going to be accepted by the pack she was with now.

Her mother had left the pack she was born into. There had been something that went on that no one would talk about. Desi knew it had to be bad for another pack to take the three of them in when her mother had brought her and her brother to the area. They had looked at the two children as a problem but they had accepted her mother.

Desi had watched her brother who was older by two years work hard to become a member of the pack that ran most of the town. Though he was a low lying member he had worked hard doing everything he could to make the others trust him. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to work that hard for the group of special people who would never look at her as a true member because she had different blood from a different pack.

The party was consuming everyone in town. Though she had the perfect outfit and everything for it she didn’t want to go. It was forever if she did go. She would be tied to this pack for the rest of her life. She needed to know why they had run from the other pack and had to live their lives in hiding here with this one. Desi knew that she should be glad that she wasn’t forced to live among the humans forever and had to hide herself forever.

“Are you getting ready for next week?” her mother asked as she cooked the dinner that would last a few nights for the family of three. Her mother was a beauty though she looked different from everyone else here. Desi could remember something about her mother having different bloodlines which left her hair darker with the silver tips that made her different from all those around her.

“Mom I have a few questions that I need to be answered before next week.” Desi said and her mother looked down at her smaller daughter. Now she was seventeen and getting ready to take her place within the group that had settled her since she was a young. However her mother knew that she did indeed need to know the answers that the older woman never wanted to give.

“I know you do. You also have the right to know. The conversation though needs to be later.” Her mother said. Laura Wilson was a young mother to two children. Though over the years her appearance had not changed as she aged. She also worked at night so she could at least provide more for her children since there was no man in the house to help out. Laura knew she would have to explain everything to her daughter before she took her place. Laura also knew that there was a chance she could lose her daughter forever when she did. She let out a sigh as she looked at her daughter before she took the food off the stove burner to let it cool. “We will discuss this before the party.”

“Mom.” Desi said as she began to whine slightly.

“Desi we will talk about it but right now I need to make some money so you can eat.” Her mother said with a laugh. Laura grabbed her keys and purse and went off to the small store that she restocked nightly for the extra money. Now left alone for the night Desi settled in to the couch and began to watch the television. She knew the instant the house was in someone view. There was something in the air even though she was in the house. Desi seemed to know when anyone was close. Her mother had told her it was a very special talent and not all had the ability.

It was one of the many that it seemed the two children had that not many others did in the pack. Laura had made it clear to both of them that they could never share all they could do. It had seemed weird to both kids but they listened to their mother. Right now Desi was trying to remember her life before she arrived her in this place with this pack.

The disturbance that was outside was getting closer and it was more than one being. Desi could feel it was more than maybe ten. She was trying to focus on one thing when everything seemed to overwhelm her and all of her senses. She stood up and looked out the window. She saw the figures moving toward her house. They were working as their own pack. Desi was wondering if it was something like a practice for the young ones in the pack.

Desi tried to block them out as they got closer to the house. She could see the light gleaming in their eyes as they moved under the moonlight. The reflections placed them as to what the were. They were a pack of wolves like her and her ancestors.

She went to the door to shoo them away. When she opened the door a man stood in front of it. He looked her over and then dropped to one knee, “We have finally found you.”

“Found me?” Desi asked with a laugh as she looked at the entire pack of over a hundred that was standing around her house. They all halted as they watched the man at the front of the door and the young woman.

“Yes, Desirée.” He said, “We have been searching for you since that woman took you away.”

“That woman? You mean my mother?” Desi asked as she stood her ground.

“She is not your mother.” The man said, “Your mother died when she had you. That woman took you from the palace when you were nothing but a child. She disappeared into the night. We never thought a pack would have taken you in.”

“My brother?” Desi asked.

“is her brat.” The man said as he looked her over. “Desirée you are different to all of us. You are the next true alpha’s mate.”

“What does that mean?” she asked as she looked at him.

“You are one of the last purebloods.” The man said. “Come and we will show you.”

“I need my things.” Desi said as she could see things now in her mind. A castle was there and she was crying when she was taken away from it. She now understood why they were different. This pack was the one hiding her from her birthright. They were taking a chance with her presence. That was why they hated her and her family.

“Go.” The man said, “Go collect what you want to take with you. We shall carry it back for you.”

“Where are we going?” Desi asked.

“Home, highness. We are going to take you home to your mate.” The man said and a sense of peace went over Desi. She knew this is what she was supposed to do. She turned and ran upstairs and started to pack her clothes and the little things she wanted to keep.
