LOGINLillian’s POV
For three years, I have been spending hours choosing what to wear for this day, my birthday, hoping that Keegan will knock on our door, sweep me off my feet, and surprise me to my heart’s content.
From cocktail dress, gown, to the most extravagant designs, I’ve tried it all. I’ve also hired tons of talented people to style my hair and do my makeup before, just so I can be at my best appearance and hopefully capture Keegan’s attention, but all goes in vain.
Today, I stand before the jury court with my combat boots on, camouflage pants, a white shirt, and a brown leather jacket. I no longer dress to impress; I dress to be myself. For the first time in a long time, I am being who I really am.
I have my head raised, and a will to fight radiates through my nerves, which I thought I had lost after getting married.
“Luna Lillian, are you sure about this?” Draco Magnus, sitting in the middle of the high court, an elder from our pack, asked with seriousness.
My gaze sweeps over the elders before settling on Draco. “I’ve never been more certain,” I say firmly.
Gasps ripple through the room, jaws dropping. One elder speaks up, stealing attention with a blunt question. “Do you plan to leave the Moonstone Pack, Luna Lillian?”
I don’t recognise him. He’s likely from another pack. Meeting his eyes, I respond honestly, “I haven’t decided yet, but I’m considering it.”
A grin creeps across his face, and he rushes forward to whisper, loud enough for others to hear. “Sir, it’s the perfect time. Our pack’s recruiting.”
I watch them, and curiosity fills me as I wander about what they’re recruiting for. Meanwhile, around me, murmurs rise.
“The Moonstone Pack is losing a gem.”
“They never valued her.”
“One’s loss, another’s gain.”
Frowning, I wonder why they’re talking about packs and gems when we’re here to discuss my divorce.
Silence returns as Draco clears his throat. “Luna Lillian, perhaps you need more time to think.”
Another elder adds, “Especially since you’re pregnant.”
My blood simmers. That pregnancy… the reason all this started. A child that’s not mine to celebrate.
I mask my anger, pressing on, “I’ve already thought this through.”
I point to the doors. “Once I stepped in here, there was no turning back.”
Uneasy glances pass between them. Draco look severely hesitant as he says, “We respect your decision, but we still need to see what Alpha Keegan will say as–”
“Thank you, but don’t worry about it. We’ll settle it privately,” I interrupt bravely after seeing that they have already prepared a divorce agreement.
Without giving them time to prolong the matter, I snatch the divorce papers from the servant’s hand who’s waiting on the side.
They are all shocked by my action, but I pay them no attention and immediately sign under my name to show my decisiveness.
“Thank you again,” that’s my last word as I bow to them in respect and turn around.
I step outside the courthouse with a heavy feeling in my heart. My childhood love and three years ended just like that… I stare at my signature in the paper as I walk, feeling both empty and dead.
I am lost in my thoughts and the pain in my heart when I suddenly bump into something, or rather… someone…
“Craig…”
With a raised brow and a smirk on his lips, he greets me back, mimicking my tone, “Lillian…”
Frowning at him, I rolled my eyes. “Oh, don’t mock me.”
Laughing at me while jokingly giving me a mocking glance from head to toe, he comments, “Aren’t you too old to be bumping on people by now? What are you so focused on?”
After asking, he suddenly squats down to pick up something from the ground, and that’s when I realise that the divorce paper slips from my hands.
Acting on impulse, I race him into it, but I am too late. Standing, his eyes survey the papers until his face turns grim and his lips form into a frown.
He looks at me worriedly and takes a pause as if weighing something in his mind before he sighs and asks kindly, “Do you need some help?”
I start to shake my head, but the elder’s question earlier suddenly pops into my head, and I think, “Why not?”
It’s a good thing to weigh every opportunity coming my way.
Taking the divorce papers from his hands, I politely ask, “Actually… Do you think I can join your pack in the future?”
His eyes widen in shock, and he freezes, not giving a reply. I must have shocked him.
I part my lips to speak, but my words vanish when heavy footsteps and a controlled, familiar voice interrupt us.
“What are you guys doing here?” Keegan asks with a grim face, but he keeps a small, forced smile, which he always has to hide his irritation toward me whenever Craig is around.
Craig stares at me for a while before he coolly puts his hand in his pocket and shrugs his shoulders. “Nothing, just cross paths.”
Keegan causally nods his head at Craig and immediately shifts his eyes to me as if he doesn’t even hear Craig’s words. “Dress up tonight, I’ll pick you up for dinner. We’ll celebrate at a fancy restaurant.”
I look at him like he lost his mind. What is he on about this time?
No one knows how many times I have imagined this time to come – the time when he’ll ask me out on a date or celebrate something with me. I always imagine it with me jumping in joy, laughing, or hugging him.
But now that it is happening, I don’t feel anything. It’s like my heart is empty, and all his words become a trigger to my irritation and fuel my anger.
Keegan gives a quick glance at Craig before he shifts his body a little so that only I can see his expression, clenched jaws, and taunting eyes. “Go home now, and wait for me.”
I raise my brows at him and sneer. “I’ll sure do. I have something important to say, so be back early.”
The corner of his lips twitches, but he tries to control it and clears his throat before shifting his attention back to Craig, acting like nothing happened. “Are you here for the elders, Uncle Craig?”
”Yes. I just arrived, so I want to visit them.” Craig shrugs and points up ahead to the elder’s office as he casually replies.
Seeing as they are already in their world and the conversation is about to turn into business, I take a step to walk past them, ready to leave them be.
But not even a foot away after I stride, Craig holds my arm to stop me.
“Lilian…” he calls out, looking at me. I glance past him and meet Keegan’s eyes, whose anger is palpable. Judging by Craig’s closeness, I can tell he’s about to say something I don’t want Keegan to find out just yet.
“About what you said…”
Keegan’s POVThe silence that follows my outburst is deafening. The air in the small meeting room becomes so thick with my presence, especially with my wolf’s presence, that it changes the colour of my eyes. Dominance and power fill the air, so much so that Elder Rowan actually loosens his tie, gasping for a breath that doesn’t taste like my rage.My hand is still planted on the table, vibrating with the force of the growl that just ripped through my chest. For a moment, no one moves. Even Elder Mira, who usually has a retort for everything, looks pale, her lips pressed into a thin white line. For a long while, it seemed as if they got too used to seeing the incompetent version of me. The one who had tried to remain a diplomat to make up for all the mistakes that I have made. The version of me who is still broken and regretful of things that ruin my image as a husband. But they have forgotten that before all this, before being the man who starts chasing a ghost, I am the Alpha who ha
Keegan’s POVI stare at Richard when he comes into the room, looking better informed today than he was a few days back.Later, we learned that he went far beyond, even leaving his seclusion to gather more information by contacting other healers. There, he learns that there are the First Blood werewolves who are known to be blessed directly by the moon goddess.Technically, they have the blood of the ancient. The only remaining family from the first werewolves created by the moon goddess is known to be more powerful than the rest. They’re strength, instincts, and everything goes far more advanced than the rest, which explains how Lillian, who has a sleeping wolf, can still fight alongside the rest of the werewolves without shifting. Now, one can only imagine how powerful she will be once she gets her werewolf back and shifts.Hell, she’ll probably suppress me and Craig in the snap of a finger, even when we are Alphas.“This time, I’ll make sure the promise I make happens,” I whisper to
Lillian’s POVThe sunlight filtering through the curtains felt too bright for my weary eyes. It’s been like that for the past couple of days since I first had my fever, to which I’ll be honest, has been dragging me into hell.At first, my body continued to tremble with weakness. And I detest that feeling. But lately, the fever has started to subside a little. I’m not sure if it’s me getting better for real or if it’s my body getting accustomed to handling the heat.Nonetheless, I am thankful that I can finally stand. So, without further ado, I jump out of my bed and go straight to the shower like I have been reborn, and I celebrate it with a freshly changed, comfortable pair of clothes.“You know, you are the most stubborn person I have ever known!” She comments, leaning on the doorframe of my room, her arm crossed and disapproving eyes on me, as she watches me tie my hair in front of the mirror. She’s the first one to have seen me get up and leave my bed early this morning. She tried
Keegan’s POVSince Lillian’s eyes change colour into a glint of silver between their original rare shade of blue ones that’s almost purple, and the burning on her skin intensifies, the sky has been in turmoil. There’s been a storm and it hasn’t stopped since then. It feels like the world itself is holding its breath and waiting for the Blood Moon to rise. It’s been two days, and her fever is only getting worse, so we can barely sleep at night. She will usually tell me to go to sleep and rest in another room so I won’t be anxious and be sleepless like her, but I can’t. I’ll be so worried that I’ll probably just end up coming back in her room to check on her, and then changing rooms will be useless, so I might as well not start.Every night, I’ll stir from my nap beside her, my head resting on the edge of her bed, as I don’t want to pressure her with benign assumptions. But when I lie beside her, I’ll be awakened by her trembling. She’ll be whispering incoherent things, a lot of them, bu
Lillian’s POVIt looks like my fever isn’t subsiding anytime soon.My skin is burning, and I can feel like it is trying to shake me apart, even when I try to ignore it. Days blur together inside the walls of Craig’s territory. Or to be precise, in the small space of my house, since they barely let me do anything, and if I need a check-up, they’d rather have the doctors come here. The doctor says I have to take a rest. Maddox says I have to be patient. Keegan says nothing, but he’s always there, watching over me.In short, they all treat me like I’m fragile and leave me orders that are for my own good, but that only makes me feel weaker. So I stop listening to them and tell myself I can do training again. I know that my body just needs movement, and this will go away soon. So as soon as the sun rises, I step on the field just behind the house. I have the blades of frost crunching under my boots.Maddox tries to stop me. “Lillian, take a rest. Look at yourself, you cannot even stay on
Lillian’s POVThe journey back to Craig’s territory is filled with silence. Upon learning that I am here, Craig comes personally to pick us up. And Keegan, who saw us about to leave, immediately rushed over and invited himself in.His thick face and stubbornness are too much for us to just let him be. Besides, I’m already too exhausted to argue with him and Craig, even when he is Keegan’s uncle, will not win against him when he starts acting spoiled. So here we are, crumpled in this small car, the air between us carries too much of what’s unspoken—regret, exhaustion, and the ghosts of what we used to be.And Craig, always the sensitive one, reads the air immediately and keeps silent as well to give us time. And I guess, he must have ordered Maddox to do the same because she has kept her silence as well, which is unusual, as she never hides her annoyance towards Kegan.Meanwhile, I can feel Keegan looking at me occasionally. When we finally arrived at my house in Craig’s pack, we all g
