Chapter 3: The Pull Of Fate

"The whole idea behind BDSM is to allow you to be fully vulnerable with your partner. It sometimes is more of a turn-on than a physical, sexual act." Adam explained, his eyes roaming over me as he spoke.

"Oh."

"Imagine your hands tied up above your head to restrict your movement... as I run a feather slowly down your naked body..."

The fork slipped from my hand as I became absorbed in Adam's voice. I gulped as desire stirred within me.

"Oh! Sorry."

I blushed as he stared at me. His hand tightened around the table, and Adam shifted slightly in his seat.

"Does it not hurt?" I asked as the heat in my cheeks increased.

"It can, but you discuss boundaries with your partner beforehand. You need to know how far they will go before even starting."

"When did you... start your hobby?"

"A few years back. I was dating a girl, and she introduced me to it."

"Oh, you have a girlfriend."

My voice sounded more disappointed than I intended. Adam chuckled and shoved the sleeves of his shirt higher.

"No, Doctor. I am single."

"But your burns..."

"I don't need to date a woman to sleep with her."

"Oh."

I took a sip of wine and smiled at Adam. I wanted him more than I had ever wanted anything before. Every smile, every glance, every word that left his lips seemed to pull me closer to him. Yet a voice in the back of my mind reminded me that acting on those feelings could complicate everything. Forcing myself to remain sensible, I pushed aside the temptation and prepared to leave before I did something I might regret.

"Thank you for dinner. I must be on my way now."

"Let me walk you out."

He stood as I did and followed me to the front door.

"Once again, thank you for healing me."

Adam held out his hand for me to shake. That electric feeling spread through me as my hand touched his, causing a small gasp to escape my lips.

"Just a goodbye kiss, is that okay?"

Before I could answer, he leaned down and kissed me lightly on the cheek. My mind wandered, and I forgot to push him away. The brief touch sent warmth rushing through me. It felt strangely magical, as though time had slowed for a single heartbeat and the rest of the world had disappeared.

"Goodbye, Doctor."

For the next couple of weeks, I was called in every time Adam had an injury. Some were small, like a broken bone, while others were more complicated, like a bullet wound or a metal pipe through his leg.

Nadia, don't ask questions or think too much about it. Just heal the president and leave. I kept reminding myself before every visit.

Yet I stayed a little longer to talk to him every time.

I couldn't seem to stop thinking about Adam.

I learned more about him with every visit. Yet he seemed more distant each time, almost as though he didn't want me around. One day, I had enough.

"Why do you keep calling me over for ridiculous injuries that will heal in a day?" I snapped as I gathered my medical kit together.

Adam's eyes widened in shock at my sudden outburst. We stood in one of the mansion's luxurious lounges, furnished with deep leather sofas, a crackling stone fireplace, and tall windows that overlooked the sprawling gardens outside.

"Yes, I get that it's my job, but you've been ignoring me lately. It's like you pretend I'm not even in the room." I continued.

"I call for you because it's the only way I get to see you."

Adam suddenly stood up and walked over to me.

"I want to be around you, but I remind myself that I can't want you every time we're together."

He stopped only a few inches in front of me. If I took a step forward, I could press against his body. The tension between us was impossible to ignore.

"What do you mean?"

"I'm trying to stay away from you because I don't want to get you involved in my... hobby."

"If you don't want me around, then why am I here?"

"Haven't you figured it out yet, Doctor?"

"My name is Nadia."

Adam smiled and repeated my name.

"Nadia... what a lovely name. You're my destined Luna... my mate. That electricity... that instant connection I felt with you... don't you feel it?"

"I do... I just didn't know what it meant."

"You've been on my mind this whole time. I've had to control myself every time you were here." He muttered, "You have no idea how much self-restraint it took not to pin you to a wall and kiss those soft pink lips."

Adam was close enough that I could simply lean forward and kiss him. My heart pounded as every part of me begged to touch him.

My hand pressed against his chest as I stared into his eyes. Beneath my palm, I could feel the powerful rhythm of his heartbeat. His scent surrounded me completely—clean, warm, and uniquely Adam—making it almost impossible to think about anything else.

"I feel drawn to you."

My eyes flicked down to his lips and back up again as I spoke.

"You make me want you."

Adam groaned as his hands cupped the sides of my face.

"Please... let me kiss you."

I frowned and walked into the dining hall. Jarrod and my closest werewolves were all sitting around a table discussing plans to track down the Drakensberg werewolf.“Let me remind you all that this werewolf can turn invisible! If she gets away, there’s no way we can track her down again. Even her scent becomes invisible, so we only have one shot at this.”Jarrod remarked.“Beta, can I suggest hiring a human hunter to tranquilise her with wolfsbane? Just enough to make her conscious.”One of the other werewolves suggested.“HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST SUCH A THING?!”I thundered.“That is not an option, not ever.”Jarrod replied at the same time.“Sorry, Alpha. I did not notice you were here.”The werewolf gulped.“Using wolfsbane against another werewolf is… unspeakable! I wouldn’t even wish that upon my worst enemy.”I added.

Never had I known of someone to possess such power and enter my mind. Only pack members were connected and could talk telepathically. Yet, I could just sense her energy was greater than anything I had come across before.Who are you? Why? Why couldn’t you accept me?“Maylea?”I could have been free! I could have unlocked my werewolf side. She growled and leapt forward. The wolf pushed me to the ground and towered over me.I, Maylea Dart, accept your rejection. Her voice was angry and fierce. I didn’t even have time to respond before she sprinted off into the dark.In an instant, I was back in the dining hall with my head to the side. I shoved the cloth off my forehead and sat up. Something didn’t feel right.“The white wolf… Maylea? We need to follow after her!”“My lady, there hasn’t been a white wolf in centuries. Wh

Astrid’s POVBy the time I walked into the dining hall, my pack had already put the food on display and started the music. They laughed and messed around while waiting for me to join them so we could all eat.Everything is working out perfectly.I sat down at my table and nodded, signalling that the pack could start eating. Jarrod walked over to my table and looked around the room. A frown fell onto his face.“My lady, should I go fetch Maylea?”“No need, Jarrod. She is exactly where I want her to be.”“Could I ask where that is?”I laughed and shoved a chair closer to him, which he sat down on.“On a date with Callum.”“This is a good thing?”His eyebrow raised as he asked the question.“Of course! I get to complete the rejection process once she falls for him, and I get to keep her around. It’s a double

“Why does such a fantastic person like yourself follow under the rule of a merciless Demon Alpha?”I ate a potato chip that I had dipped in sweet chilli sauce. Callum sighed, then also ate a chip.“I guess the Demon Alpha has protected us. Through all these years, we have been safe and happy. I also turn a blind eye to her ways because of loyalty. She’s my family and my Alpha; my werewolf side forces me to obey her. I also guess because of fear.”“It’s okay. We all get a little bit scared sometimes.”“The Demon Alpha doesn’t scare you, but what does?”I decided to give him a lighthearted answer first.“You know, girly things like moths.”I laughed, then became serious.“I’m afraid of rejection. I’m scared of being shamed, judged, left alone, or excluded. So I often find myself trying to please everyone and blending into the people ar

I looked over at Astrid, who was glaring at me, and rolled my eyes. The electricity was still there, which annoyed me, but I actually wanted to break the bond between us. She was still rejecting me, and I wanted to accept her rejection so that I could pave the way for a relationship with Callum. Maybe there was something there, but I wanted to get to know him first.“Maylea?”I darted out of the training room with all the other werewolves and walked away like I had never heard her. I needed to distance myself. I needed to stop wanting her.I quickly walked to my room while everyone headed towards the dining hall. Callum said he would fetch me in an hour or so, which meant I had some time to get ready. I was both nervous and excited about my date. I had only been on a few before, but none of them was with someone who made me feel the way Callum did.He made me feel safe and like love was a possibility. I felt like he would never hurt me and would love me forever, without any expectatio

Maylea’s POVCallum rushed to help me up as Astrid walked away. The events of the dream I had last night flashed through my head. The Demon Alpha was back to being her rude self. I looked up at the handsome werewolf in front of me and let him help me up.He was more my age, with those gorgeous golden eyes that everyone in the Wildcrest Pride pack possessed. Callum had pale skin, a wave of light brown hair, and bushy eyebrows. He was extremely cute and had a sweet smile, but he came nowhere close to how sexy Astrid was.“What’s her problem?” I asked angrily.“She’s always had a temper.” He shrugged and offered me a smile. “Would you like to train with me? I know Astrid said you have to, but I can get someone else—”“No. I want to train with you.” I interrupted him, then blushed. “If you don’t mind.”“I would love to.”Callum then handed me a new wooden sword and told me what I had done wrong that he noticed when I fought Astrid. He showed me the proper ways and gave me more tips. He st
