Talking To Him

Kate took the food inside and thanked the maid while closing the door. Her hunger returned and so she sat on the bed to satisfy her growling stomach. Kate chewed on her food while absently calculating her future. She could not stop thinking about how he touched her leg under the table.

Was that a.....warning ?

For some reason her mind kept on telling her that Quisito was bad news. Sure, her father has met with Quisito before but this was the first time he has invited Quisito over for dinner. Kate hated the fact that Quisito was invited for dinner because it was also an invitation to stayover for the night; That was one of the ways in which men of mafia made their bonds stronger.

Kate was rinsing her mouth when she heard a knock on her door.

“In a minute” Kate informed the person on the other side of the door as she dried her hands. Kate tensed before opening the door but her father’s voice calmed her nerves.

“Don Quisito will be staying in the room next to yours” her father said as soon as she opened the door

Noooooooooooooooo!

 Her heart sank.

“But I thought we gave the top floor to the guests.....” Kate asked, her voice more like pleading.

“Quisito is like family. We have been doing business together for a long time. That room belongs to him” her father explained.

“Thanks for the dinner, Winston” Quisito’s voice boomed across the hallway as he walked towards them.

“You are saying thankyou for a dinner? I’m indebt to you my whole life” Winston raised his hands in the air. “Welcome to your room Quisito” her father guided him into the room but instead of looking at the room, he looked at Kate, who was trying very hard not to melt every time he was near her.

“Lena...make yourself comfortable. I’ll join you soon” Lena complied Quisito as the maids carried their luggage behind them. Her father also left, leaving Quisito and Kate behind.

“So we meet again.....Princess” Quisito cooed, adding a little rasp to the last word. Kate gulped as she looked up to meet his cold blue eyes, staring at her with intense scrutiny.

“Yeah...hi. I-I-it’s been a long t-time..” Kate stuttered, fear evident in her voice.

“So what’s up with your studies?” he asked, as if trying to have a normal conversation.

“I-I’m being taught online....since the world outside is dangerous for me” she replied in a sad voice.

Kate had a tragic life and her situation was no different than a bird stuck in a cage. She used to go to school until an attack happened. It was an attempt to kidnap her but many innocent lives were lost. Ever since that day, she took online classes.

“Demons of this world will always have eyes on angels like you. So it’s safer when you are inside” Quisito’s gaze burned into her, as if he was the demon.

“I-I should go. It’s bedtime; Good night” Kate said, while skillfully slipping inside her room through the tiny gap between the door and the wall and slamming it close on his face. She let out a sigh of relief having got out of the talk.

As she prepared the bed Kate instructed herself to ignore the sounds next door if at all Quisito and Lena engages in some sort of sexual act. This was one of the main reasons her father allotted top floor to the guests. Most of the brought along more than two women and the sounds that escaped from their rooms at night were inappropriate for her ears. Kate expected the same from Quisito but after a formal conversation, everything went silent next door.

They must be tired from travelling – Kate thought to herself. After studying for a half an hour, she shut down the lights and drifted off to sleep.
