CHAPTER 7
JENNA’S POV After the little heart to heart conversation with Cassie, I got a call from Rob. I know right. Talk about the devil. “She’s going to be with you in a minute” I heard the house servant say before I could descend completely from the stairs. He looked breathtaking from the angle I stood at. From the side he looked composed. His lips pressed in as he glanced at his watch. His gaze lifted from his watch and then rested on me. A small blush crept on my face. “You look beautiful today, just as always.” His voice was low and firm as I took careful strides towards him. He stood up, placing a peck on my cheek. “C’mon I’ve got a surprise for you.” What could this man suddenly be planning? “If this is another gift, I’m not taking it” I said jokingly. “Don’t worry, this is one you can’t reject.” He winked at me before leading the way to the door. The car was already outside waiting for us, except there was something odd. There wasn’t a driver. I tried to scan the area you see, maybe he’d be hanging around but there was no one. “Uhm, where’s the driver?” Rob had already gotten to the car to open up the back seat. “Oh I forgot to tell you, I’d be taking care of today's ride.” My brows furrowed in confusion. “You?” “Yes me my lady, now hang in there tight.” He shut the door then quickly raced to the driver's seat. The engines revved up and the car began to move. “Show off” I murmured. The long drive finally came to halt when the car pulled up in front of a massive building. “Rob..What’s this place?” He just smiled and opened the door, but didn’t give a reply. A man in black walked up with a smile and ushered us in. I was stunned by the intricate beauty of how inside the building looked. I almost missed the man whispering something to Rob. He gave a slight nod and the man walked away. “Hold on to me and close your eyes” he murmured. I laughed nervously. “What are you up to now?” “Trust me” We walked for a brief moment before he said. “Okay, open” I gasped. Out of everything I’d imagined, never did it cross my mind it would be this. It was a dress. My wedding dress. It was tightly fitted on the mannequin, hugging every curve all the way down before flaring slightly. Every inch of the dress was adorned with pearls and shiny crystals which made it gleam and shimmer under light. The material was definitely satin caused it made the dress more ethereal Hand stitched floral patterns trailed the neckline, giving it an exquisite look. I walked up to the mannequin to take a closer look at the dress. It was magnificent. The back was low cut. Exposing just enough skin but not much. Whoever crafted this masterpiece surely outdid themselves. Tears pooled and streamed down my cheeks. I couldn’t hold them back. I tried to speak, but I just couldn’t find my words at that point. Rob just stood and said nothing. He kept staring at me with that unreadable expression of his. But the tenderness in his eyes was something he couldn’t deny. “It’s beautiful” I managed to say, walking forward. My hands brushed the fabric. “You can try it on” he finally said. A lady this time approached me. Rolling the dress as she led me to the dressing room. Trying it on felt surreal. I looked like a literal princess, from the shiny satin to the beautiful patterns of pearls hand beaded on it. This was a creative masterpiece. I stepped out and Rob’s expression was epic. His gaze dropped from my face and then to the dress, the way he stared made me feel like I was getting married today. He walked up to me, placing a light kiss on lips. “You look beautiful my princess.” At this point I had butterflies flying haywire in my tummy. Before I could even process the warmth still lingering in my mouth, he stepped back, his hand now holding onto my waist. “Come, you need to see what I see” His hand remained firm on my waist as he guided me towards the huge full length mirror. And there I stood, looking as if I just stepped out of a fairytale” At that moment, I was like a princess waiting for her Prince Charming. Except my Prince Charming was standing right behind me. All the while he didn’t move his gaze from me, as though I’d disappear if he stopped. And yet I still wondered. “Is this even real?” I questioned under my breath. I took a deep breath. “Are you doing all this for me? Or because you feel pressured by grandpa?” I asked hesitantly. “The last thing I’d want is to drag you into something you don’t want. Which is why I’ve given you the free will to call off the wedding.” My chest tightened with every word. Rob was quiet for a while. His silence made me feel I was right all along. “I know what you’re thinking, Jenna”. His voice dropped low and steady. “That I’m only dancing to O’Neil’s music, but I’m not. I wouldn’t be here if I didn't love you.” “But the dress?” I glanced down at the dress. Tugging at the price tag. “It’s expensive. How did you—?” He sighed. “O’Neil gave me a black card, and all I could think about after that was you.” He continued. “I’m sorry, but he gave me no other option than to take it. “ “You deserve the world Jenna, and this” he said pointing at the dress. “Is nothing compared to what I’d have done if I had the money. I just don’t want you to feel I’m being pushed into this—I’m in love with you and I’d stop at nothing to have you.” I looked at him and in that moment I saw the sincerity in his eyes. I felt something melt in me. The fear didn’t go away, but his words gave me the reassurance I needed. “Can I kiss you?” He added softly. I gave a slight nod. A light kiss fell on my lip. It made me feel good, like all my burdens had been wiped away. “You know” he inches closer. His hands trailing up and down my hips. “If I had known you’d look this goddamn good, I’d have brought a priest along.” I rolled my eyes. “Oh stop it”. His look now turned serious. “I’m serious, Jenna. I really can’t wait to see you on the altar. To have the prettiest woman on earth stand by my side.” Oh God! This man is impossible. On one hand I’m trying not to catch feelings, but being with him only makes me fall harder. I blushed. “You’re not supposed to see me in my wedding dress remember?” His brows furrowed “says who?” I laughed. “Well they say it’s bad luck or whatever” He looked over at the lady from earlier who had been pretending not to eaves drop. “Could you please excuse us?” She gave a slight nod and left. “Your eyes, they want me” he whispered. His breath, hot against my neck. Light kisses fell on neck, sending shivers all through my spine. “Say the word” he murmured. “ and I’ll stop” I liked how he made me feel and I didn’t want him to stop. My eyes locked with his as I turned slowly. I still didn’t give a reply. He smirked just as he noticed I’d given access. He didn’t wait, his lips found mine in a hurried union. The kiss grew heavier, his hands working its magic as it found its way to my zipper. The heat beneath my legs grew intense. “Do you still think it’s bad luck?” He whispered into my ear. “No” I said, as I tried holding back groans of pleasure as he gently stroked my nipples. In the blink of an eye, the moment unraveled. Every touch made me gasp for air. And the way he moved in me was calculated. Like he’d planned this along with the surprise. Or probably this was part of the surprise. His grip on my hips tightened—his pace heightened, more desperately. He groaned my name, low and soft but loud enough for me to hear. My Moans filled the air as his pace got even quicker. He groaned again, this time his body stilled against mine. Our breaths heaved like we had just run a marathon. In another sense I’d call this marathon. I felt too good—satisfied even. His arms wrapped around me, as we stood partly in the dressing room. He held me tight. “You mean a whole lot to me my princess” I didn’t pull away, I didn’t want to because I was already his.CHAPTER 45 NARRATOR POV Under the bright fluorescent lights, photos of Elijah’s body were plastered across a transparent board. Photos of the warehouse, Jenna and an unidentified suspect all connected with each other. A light knock fell on the door. “Come in!” One of the forensics scientists approached detective Morgan with a clipboard. “You better be coming with good news” Morgan blurted before the scientist came into close proximity with him. “Well we’ve finished processing the scene and the samples that were provided, and there’s not much apparently.” Morgan’s voice was tight. “What do you by ‘not much’.” “We found no foreign fingerprints except that of the dead man, no DNA, nothing on Jenna’s restraints either. Everything else doesn’t seem to have been tampered with by a third party.” “How is that possible? Do you know what this means?” Just as the scientists were about to give a reply , an officer walked into the office. “Morning chief! We found survei
CHAPTER 44 NARRATOR POV A few Police cruisers alongside an ambulance encircled the warehouse. Red and blue lights flashed against the structure, creating a temporary glow. Yellow tape went up fast. Officers approached slowly, guns in the air while moving with caution. “Fan out.” Detective Morgan called out. “Keep your eyes on the area and call if you find anything.” “Roger!” Two officers replied briefly before stepping away into the shadows. Detective Morgan continued to walk further, sweeping his flashlight across the dusty floor. Eventually, he found himself walking down into the cellar. The fresh smell of blood stung his nose, as his eyes met the ground with horror. “Over here” he yelled. “We’ve got a body.” A few officers rushed towards his voice. Their faces also had the same expression as dey active Morgan’s did. They stood around the body in circles, while Morgan crouched to take a closer look. “Three shots in the head. It seems our killer really wante
CHAPTER 43 ISABELLE’S POV The road stretched endlessly ahead of me while the warehouse loomed further into the distance. The tires hummed loudly against the bumpy road, but my mind was too occupied with thoughts to notice. I’d barely slept well in days. Not since Elijah showed up, with threats hanging around my neck like I was being held on a hanger. And now here I was, driving back to that godforsaken warehouse. Finally I pulled up at the site, the old Mercedes still sat in the same corner as it was the last time. I stepped out of the car, the gravel crunching beneath my boots with each movement. I stretched to the passenger’s seat to pull a little black bag. Before walking towards the door I quietly made a mental note of what I was carrying. I’d managed to gather the documents Elijah had asked for. Fake passports, new IDs and even forged visas. All sourced through the dirtiest channels I knew. One would ask why and how, but they just happene
CHAPTER 42 ISABELLE’S POV My phone rang just as I was about to step into my apartment. It was an unknown number. I contemplated on whether to answer or not, but I had no idea who it was or how important the call might be so I picked it up. “Hello?” A muffled voice filtered through the speaker after a few seconds. “I'm probably wondering how Jenna left the hospital.” I froze. My hands grabbed tightly onto the door knobs, my knuckles began to redden. “Who’s this? What do you know?” “You’ve been playing nurse far too well, Isabelle and now I’d like to give you a promotion. You can have what you’ve always desired if you listen carefully.” This person knew me, they’ve been watching me, all this time. My body trembled. “I don’t know what you’re talking about! Where’s Jenna?” I snapped. “We wouldn’t know until you come to find out for yourself. Abandoned warehouse by Mayfield’s creek. I’d be expecting you.” Mayfield’s creek? That place was a mile from anywh
CHAPTER 41 JENNA’S POV My head throbbed before my eyes opened. The air was thick with something far from the scent of a hospital room—it was musty. I rubbed my eyes in circles as I tried to adjust to the dark room. I looked around, no windows. A dim light flickered above me, it was more or less useless at it barely shone bright enough to even see around the room. When I tried to get up, the pounding in my head doubled, so I retreated back to my previous position. “Hello? Is anyone there?” I blurted loudly, using my hand as a guide around the dark room. Silence. I continued to yell until my voice gave out, my throat became patched. I had to reserve the little energy I had so I kept quiet. I curled myself into the corner, shaking from cold and hunger. After waiting for what felt like a few hours, I began to drift into sleep from exhaustion. And then. Two clicks. I jumped up, startled as I turned to see where the clicks came from. Beneath the shad
CHAPTER 40ROB’S POVI sat at the corner of the lodge waiting for when it would be time for visiting hours. After what had happened the previous day, I knew I had to be here always. ‘Rob’ I could still remember the way she called out my name, and the sense of recognition that lingered in her eyes. She was beginning to remember, yet what I didn’t understand was how her condition worsened. Was that a bad sign? Or had I walked into her at a bad hour. I couldn’t get answers except to see her again, no matter how long it took. My feet tapped continuously against the floor as I glanced up to check the huge clock hanging at the reception. Just a few more minutes, until I get to see you, Jenna. It was finally time and I walked towards the nurses station to check into the visitors book. The hallways were quiet as usual. The only footsteps that resounded were that of mine and the nurse in charge of Jenna’s ward. “How’s my wife doing?” I asked the nurse. “She’s fine sir, but I advise
