Chapter 1

Nina POV

“Push! Push!” Wyatt was holding my hand as I tried to focus on pushing. Beads of sweat had slid down my face as I did partial crunches to get this child out of me. Twenty hours I have been in labor and for nineteen of them I wanted to kill someone. People kept touching my body, touching my stomach and trying to keep my powers at bay. Since I could electrocute people like a human taser, it felt it was pretty brave of them to piss me off. The waves of electricity were right at the surface, with the vibrations to blast everyone off me. So, not only did I have to focus on pushing the baby out of me, I had to focus on not killing the hospital staff at the same time.

“Come on, Nina! You are doing great!” Wyatt, my husband, my mate and my king and has been my biggest supporter and my biggest pain in my ass during this whole labor.

“I’m trying!” my vision got cloudy with the salty tears that threatened to fall.

Wyatt put his head against me as he stroked my hair. I had collapsed back against the four pillows behind me. “You have survived being tortured, branded, and kidnapped. You are the bravest person I know. If anyone can do this, it is you. Your baby boy needs to get out. His heart rate is dropping, and he is in distress. Nina, either you push him out or we will have to do an emergency c-section.”

“Heart rate is dropping to 76!” The nurse was practically yelling at the doctor.”

“We are out of time! I’m sorry my king and queen. We are doing a c-section. I refuse to put the future king’s life in any more danger!” The doctor walked over and came back with a syringe. He held it up and pushed it a little. Clear liquid shot up and out, showing there was no air bubbles in it.

“What are you doing?” I asked nervously. My own heart rate was spiking.

“Putting you under. You do not want to feel what I am about to do!” The doctor grabbed my IV. Just as he was about to insert the needle, I grabbed his hand and shocked the shit out of him.

“AHH!” The doctor dropped the anesthetic and looked at me, appalled.

“You will not put me under! Get my baby out now! I can handle it!” My adrenaline was pumping as I have realized my worst fear. My baby is in distress and needs to get out now!

The doctor looked at Wyatt for help. Since I am an Empath, I knew he was torn between what to do. “Get my baby out now.” He said dangerously calm. Looking at me, “You better know what you are doing. I swear, Nina, if you die…” He couldn’t finish his sentence as the pain in his heart grew. Tears welled up in his eyes as he shook his head.

“I got thisssssss” The doctor made the incision when I was distracted in one swift moment. The sharp sting of the blade opened my stomach, revealing my intestines. But he didn’t stop there. He kept cutting deeper into me. Blood was trickling down my sides and pooling under me as he hacked away.

Clenching my teeth together so I couldn’t cry out as he worked to get to my baby. Everything started to feel a little fuzzy and the sounds were like listening to a distant alarm. I could barely make out the words.

“…. blood O+…”

“…. clamp…”

“Nina! Stay with me!” Wyatt was the clearest as it came directly into my head. My eyes were glowing green as everything had a hue around it. Every slice he made, my body worked at healing it. So much that it made the doctor work harder to keep me open to find my baby.

The sounds slowly started coming back to me. Looking around, I saw a bag of red liquid entering my arm. The cries of a baby filled the room as a huge weight was taken off my pelvis. My baby was born. I looked up in enough time to see a nurse grabbed the baby and rushed him to the side of the room where two other nurses were working quickly on him.

“Wyatt…” it was all I could say as I looked helplessly from the side.

He didn’t say anything as he looked between the gaping hole that was my stomach and the baby that was starting to cry more clearly now. The doctor was quickly putting stitches in as my body kept healing itself.

“Go.” I said as I weakly pushed Wyatt towards the baby. Slowly, he approached the nurses that had calmed down and were making cooing sounds at him. I didn’t miss the worry that passed through Wyatt as he stared at our child. “What’s wrong?” I asked as I laid helplessly on the table in my own blood.

Wyatt opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He wasn’t afraid or concerned, but completely shocked into silence. He looked between me and the baby before finally picking up the baby and coming over to me. “Our baby is healthy and perfect. 8lbs 8oz and 21 inches long!” Wyatt said. His voice still told me he wasn’t telling me everything.

Wyatt placed our baby in my arms. Brown hair coated its head with matching emerald green eyes that stared a hole into me. “Ah, my big boy!” I cooed to him.

“No, Nina.” Wyatt said, looking lovingly at the baby.

“No?” No what?

“It’s a girl.”

“WHAT?” I yelled.

“WHAT?” Raven yelled equally loud.

“You had a baby girl.” Wyatt repeated. I didn’t believe him. Unwrapping the baby, I pulled the diaper off to the side and he was correct. I just gave birth to a little baby girl.

“My Queen, you are all stitched up. You will be on bedrest for the next three weeks and light duty after that. Since you are healing extremely fast, you may not need all that time, but we will see how you are doing in a week. Once you feel up to it, you can shower.”

I looked at the doctor like he grew three heads. No words were forming on my tongue as I just stared at him and my baby girl. We were dead set that we were having a boy that I didn’t even think about having a girl. The doctor smiled before walking out of the room with the nurses.

“We have a daughter.” Wyatt smiled as he gently rubbed the cheek of our little girl. Her eyes glowed green as her little hand grabbed his finger and held onto it.

“What do we call her?” My mind was still blown away.

“Sarah, after your mother.” Wyatt said sweetly. My heart instantly broke as I thought of my mother and how she wasn’t here for me. Looking at Wyatt through my tears, I nodded in agreement.

“Hello, my little Sarah.”
