Chapter Six

Gwyneth's POV

The irking music blasted the whole place. I've seen a group of people smoking weed, aside from throwing drinks in the air and consuming alcohol. It's creeping the hell outta me.

“I would have you home before midnight.” Kalex whispered to my ears before walking crisscross going back to his troupe busy playing game flip cup, which gotten them boozy.

Is he nuts? He's insanely drunk, so how is he going to drive me home?

Most of the people attending this party spend their leisure time getting intoxicated. Even Zaina? Well, she's nowhere to be found since she left me a while ago.

How I wish Kalex didn't showed up earlier while I'm with my client. Tch.

I stood up and started to walk down the exit of this house, or should I say mansion. Denver is fucking loaded.

I don't think I can stand this kind of atmosphere any longer. I'd rather wait for Zaina outside than breathing the same air with these lunatic teenagers. I'm pretty sure she's completely wasted and I don't want her driving home befuddled.

I glanced both side of the way after arriving at gateway, looking for a perfect place to hang out while waiting for Zaina. I looked straight ahead when I saw a park, not far from where I was standing.

I walked closer to it and when I arrived, I immediately sat on the swing and then swung myself.

I was busy making myself not to feel bored when I remembered Sean, so I quickly took my phone out of my purse and called him. "Hello?" I said on the other line when he answered my call.

[Gwyn? Where you are now? Why did you suddenly disappear? Did something bad happened?" He asked sounded concerned at my sudden disappearance.

"I'm sorry, something came up that's why I left without informing you." I apologetically said.

[It's okay, atleast I'm sure you're fine now.]

"I'll just go to your house tomorrow to apologize to your parents."

[No need, I'll take care of them — anyways, thanks for your great job earlier. I'll send my payment to your bank account right away.]

I could not help but feel guilty. He paid me but I didn't even fulfill our said agreement.

[I gotta end this call. Goodnight.]

I heaved a deep sigh after turning my phone off. I blankly watched the slide near hammock opposite to my direction.

"Why not enjoying the party?"

I stared at Denver when he suddenly appeared at my back. "I'm bored watching people insanely drunk." I responded.

"Here." He handed me the soda he was holding and without hesitation I took it.

"Is it okay with you if I accompany you here?"

I turned my gaze to him, then answered him with a frequent nod. He sat next to my swing so I just drank the soda he gave me.

"I followed you here when I saw you come out. I'm just worried that you might get even bored while staying here alone." He said in a whispered tone but I didn't bother to turned my gaze and face him. "You don't like these, do you? "

I wanted to answer him back but I feel like I'm not in my greatest mood to answer some questions. I just wanted to stay in this place and feel the presence of the air that gently touches my skin.

"You know what—"

"I don't know." I interrupted.

I sipped the soda I was holding once again. I haven't heard him speak a minute later, and that's a good thing. I can finally relax without disturbance.

"H-Have you always been this beautiful?" He stuttered.

I don't know why but it made me laugh in an instant. This is the second time I heard him stutter. As far as I know, a Denver Vasquez has never stumbled upon anyone. Is he scared of me?

"Is there anything funny?" He asked and I could still feel the awkwardness in his voice.

"Sorry, my bad." I answered, pulling myself not to laugh again as I turned a glance to face him.

I saw him gulp  when my expression suddenly changed and stared at him seriously. "Are you afraid of me?" I wondered.

He lowered his head as if he felt embarrassed, so I just stood up when I didn't hear anything from him. I walked over to a trash can and threw away the can of soda I had been drinking. This park is too clean for me to litter.

"I am giving you a consent to talk. Now speak up." I demanded while wrapping my arms around myself because I could already feel the near midnight chilling breeze. I just wore sleeveless tops, and it was already past eleven o'clock in the evening, so I was unlikely to be cold here.

"Would you like me to take you home, Gwyn?" Denver stood not too far from me and was looking anxious as he approach me.

"Nah I'm good. I still have to wait for Zaina. I don't want to leave her alone."

"But it's too late in the evening, Kalex should have brought you home at this hour."

I laughed again in no time. He seems worried or whatever you call it. Well, I find him cute even though he looks like a dimwit.

I walked past him and unto the swing then make myself comfortable. When I looked at Denver, he was still rooted to where I left him, looking at me.

"How tall are you? You look tall enough for a senior high schooler like me." Out of nowhere I said. I know it makes no sense, so what? I just want to ask him.

"Are you drunk?"

I frowned slightly because of his futile quest. "Do you think I would get intoxicated with a fucking soda? Think about it dude, think. Tch."

"But it looks like you—"

"Okay, shut the hell up. Your clock runs out, so don't talk anymore." I cut him off then swung myself again.

"Why are you so mean to me?" He seemed unable to restrain himself from speaking. Tsk tsk.

He walk up towards me and later suddenly grab the swing. He is blocking me from swinging to and fro. Ugh!

"Don't block my way!" I commanded in an irritable voice.

He slowly sat in front of me while still holding the swing sideways. "You were the only girl to ever treat me like that." Amusement is now apparent on his face.

I creased my forehead even more because of what he was saying. I folded my arms and slowly arch my perfectly shaped eyebrow. "Leave in front of me this instant if you don't want me to smack you off with my stiletto." I threatened him but I just get a delightful laugh from the doofus, for crying out loud! Does he have some sort of a brain damage?

Few minutes later, his laughing died down. Maybe he discerned that I am giving him a death glare as if wanting hit where the sun doesn't shine any minute .

"Are you done?" I sarcastically asked.

"I'm done." he replied after shedding away some tears that were on the side of his eye, due to the excessive laughter earlier.

"Now scram out of here! My temper is too short and once I can no longer control myself—"

"I like you, Gwyneth..." he firmly said without even thinking what my reaction would be. "... and I want you to be my girlfriend." He added which gotten me surprised twofold.

Is he professing his feelings towards me now? Why all of a sudden? I mean, what's with him?

"It made me happy seeing you every single day even if it is for no reason. I know we just met a month ago, but I don't want to waste this opportunity to say that I like you and that I want you to be my girlfriend, to be mine. "

I don't know what to say, I was flabbergasted. It's a bit awkward and this is all Kalex's fault. If he had not dragged me in this hell, I would not have been in this situation.

"I know you don't like me, but I can court you if you want. I just want to prove to you that I am not playing some tricks on you or wh—"

"HEY!"

I suddenly push Denver making him hit the ground with a loud thud. I stood in shock at whoever shouted.

"What's up Denver? Are you trying to hit on my baby?"

My eyes widened as I stared at Kalex, the one who shouted not a while ago. He's totally drunk and wasted.

"What are you doing here?" I asked with a frown and then walk closer to a slurring Kalex. "I'm sorry Denver, but I need to take this one home." I turned to Denver who is still sitting on the ground.

I didn't wait for him to answer because he might say awkward words again.

I diverted my complete attention towards Kalex. I help him out of the house, guiding him towards parking space.

"I'll drive you home." he said, twisting his leg as we trod out.

I took the bottle of wine he was holding in his other hand. "You're drunk."

"Don't you know I have mastered drunk driving?" He boastfully said making my eyes roll. He is too full of himself. Tch

Realization hits me, whether he is drunk or in his state of mind, his arrogance is still not gonna leave in him.
