LOGINDiego's POV
As the door slams open, I turned around and the voice cuts through the air. “He won't do it.” I blink and my eyes meet the gaze of the man who just spoke. “Anthony,” I whispered, unsure if I should be happy or puzzled about his presence. I hadn't seen much of him in the past days. His gaze lingers on me for a moment, and then he directs it to Roberto. “Diego can't assassinate Rocco. I have a better idea.” He steps forwards, his long legs taking long strides as he closes the space between me and Roberto. Roberto looks at him, a frown forming on his face. “What's your idea?” Anthony doesn't hesitate. “He would be a spy instead.” I step backwards,my breath hitches in my throat as I struggle to process his words. A spy? How is that even possible. I didn't know if I should be relieved, confused or terrified. Roberto grunts and I could see that he was also trying to make sense of Anthony's suggestion. Anthony continues, “Cent Rocco is heavily guarded. It's nearly impossible to assassinate him directly.” Roberto nods his head as Anthony's words sink in. “We need Intel from someone who can infiltrate his house.” He pauses and glances at me. “Diego is perfect. He would blend in and can go in his crossdressing outfit as a woman.” Before anyone can respond, a voice cuts through. “No.” Liam interrupts. He steps forward, his tone is rough and he shoots me a hard glare. I could already sense his resentment. He points a finger at me. “Diego should be sent to kill. He's the one that needs to avenge his parents and not shy away like a coward.” Liam and Anthony lock eyes for a moment. Their fists were folded into balls at their sides. It was obvious that they don't like each other. Roberto steps in before the matter escalates. “We'll hold a meeting. I'll consult with top members of the cartel.” I wipe the beads of sweat off my forehead and slump into the chair. Roberto had already put a call to the members and some of them had already arrived. I sat in my corner, eager to hear the verdict to be passed. “Diego, you wait outside.” Roberto ordered. I didn't argue. I stood up from where I was seated. My eyes locked with Anthony's, silently pleading with him to see that they give a fair judgement. I close the door quietly behind me. My heart pounds in my chest as I began taking wild guesses. What could the final decision be? I lean against the door, trying to eavesdrop, but no sound can pass through the thick mahogany door. All I can do is wait. Minutes pass but it feels like hours. I pace around the corridors worriedly. The tension which hung in the air was palpable. My anxiety builds with every passing second. My mind wanders to the events that unfolded in the room. Why would Roberto want me to kill such a dangerous man? It seemed like there was more to the matter that he was hiding from me. Something was not right. Finally, the door flung open and the first person to step out is Liam. His eyes burn with anger and he shoots me a cold look, a sneer tugging at his lips. He points an accusatory finger at me and chuckles darkly. “You'll never make it.” His voice is laced with mockery. He turns and walks away without another word. I swallow the lump stuck in my throat. His words sting, leaving me in a state of disarray. I still wonder what decision was made. He had already disappeared down the hall before I could ask questions. The door creaks open, and this time, Anthony steps out. His eyes scan the hallway before looking at me. He walks towards me and I hold his hand. My voice shakes as I called out to him. “Anthony, what's the verdict?” He squeezes my palm lightly and leads me to a corner. He pins me against the wall, locking his eyes with me. I try to judge from his gaze, but everything seems unreadable. Before I can say anything, he touches my lips with his fingers. Without a word, his lips crash into mine in a kiss that's both urgent and slow as if he had been waiting for this moment. For a moment, I'm too stunned to react. This wasn't our first time, but I had thought that he wanted doing something else. Then I feel his hands circled around me, pulling me closer and closing the gap between us. I let out a soft gasp. His lips are firm and demanding. The kiss deepens as his tongue traces the line of my lips, forcing them wider. I feel a rush of heat flood through my body. My mind spins, torn between our intoxicating moment and the verdict to be passed. When he finally pulls back, my breath is ragged, my chest rising and falling rapidly. I feel dazed, lost in the heat of the moment we just shared. “I'll still love you.” He whispered, his voice low and husky. His words send a shiver down my spine and it takes me minutes before I can respond. “What have they decided for me?” He pauses for a second, pressing his palm into mine. As he opens his mouth to respond, a voice interrupts, sharp and commanding. “Anthony, come over.” He pulls away and without a second glance, heads in the direction of the voice. My thoughts are still spiralling and I hated the suspense being created. My hand finds its way to my chest, trying to calm my nervous mind. Anthony had left me hanging on an edge of uncertainty. I lean closer to the study where Anthony had walked into. He was alone with Roberto and the two guards. Roberto's eyes caught sight of me. “Come in.” He said, stretching out his hands. “A decision has been made.”My instructor was extremely impressed by the way I acted my script flawlessly.“A standing ovation for Miss Carter.” She stood up, and other students stood up, giving a round of applause.“You're meant to go places.” She smiled at me as soon as the play was done. “Are you interested in our show in Paris?”“I'm still thinking about it.” I responded with a smile.“Good. I hope to see you there.”As she left, I took a deep breath, unsure if I would be able to make that trip. Money wasn't a constraint, but time and freedom. I was stuck here doing my uncle's work, and until the mission was resolved, I couldn't leave. It was almost evening and I suspected that the children would be on their way back. Like Bruno said, I had to make sure I came back before the children returned.I clutched my bag and walked out of the training school. A red car with tinted glass seemed to be following me. I didn't give it thought as I presumed the driver was headed in the same direction as mine.I shrieked as
I woke up to the faint morning light slipping through the window, and my phone lying on my chest. I gasped as I glanced at the clock which read 6 am. I stayed up during the night, waiting for Anthony's call, but it never came. I swiped through my call logs and my fears were confirmed, he actually didn't call me.I dialed his line a couple of times, but got no response. I took a deep breath, brushing off the negative imaginations that I had about Anthony in a room with a woman.A knock sounded on my door as soon as I got out of bed. I opened it to see Bruno standing there with a transparent file in his hand.“Goodmorning Miss D…” He froze, staring at me like there was something abominable on my face. He wore a surprised look, and his brow was slightly raised.Oh shit. I cursed and slammed the door. My heart began beating at an accelerated rate. ‘How could I be so careless?’ I chided myself.I tried hard to steady my raging heartbeat as I stared at the mirror. I had taken off my wig, br
I would have minded my business and gone downstairs if the grunts didn't get louder. It sounded more like sounds of anguish. I followed the direction of the sound, taking calculated steps, so that if it was something dangerous, I could easily run away.My jaw slacked slightly as I met Vincent in the room, squirming on the floor while placing a piece of cloth over his chest. Before I could turn to leave and pretend like I never saw this, his eyes locked with mine. They weren't the calm grey eyes that I knew. They were slightly reddened as though he had been crying.“Quick. Get hel…” Before he could complete his statement, he passed out.My mind raced as I moved closer to him, pulling the cloth that was placed on his bare chest. It covered a small wound. The injury looked too small to cause so much pain. I was torn between getting help or just leaving him there to die. After all, he was my rival.“Boss, you called me, just hold on.” I heard a man say as he hurried into the room.I had s
DiegoThe twins were still on my mind till evening, especially Ted. He had been so expressive. It wasn't like I hated his sister, but he just seemed like an easier nut to crack.I dropped the empty glass that I had given Ted to drink water with in the kitchen. I decided to save Bruno the stress of washing it and just decided to wash it myself.Bruno had warned me about wandering the halls. His reason was that Vincent hates it. I decided to have a little peek outside the house, just to have a clue of where I would be spying. There wasn't much outside, except the flowers planted around, the wide space and a small bungalow by the side which I suspected belonged to the security men who manned the gate.I was about to check out the backyard when I heard a loud horn from outside the gate. A man approached and slid open the gate. Vincent parked his car and walked towards the house briskly, ignoring my greeting.Even though his movement was hurried, it didn't stop me from noticing a red stain
Vincent's POVMy grip on the steering wheel was tight, almost as if I wanted to crush it. I hit the steering a couple of times as I tried hard to control the rage brewing in my chest. My boy was angry at me. Those tantrums he threw bore into my soul. I hoped he didn't hate me the same way I hated my father while growing up. I still hated him till now.I knew I could sacrifice the whole world for my children. They were all I had. I hit the steering one more time as I recalled the incident at Pixie land. My assistant had chosen the place carefully as a place to spend quality time with the kids.Just the first night of being there, someone infiltrated our suite and tried to stab Ted with a knife. Of course Ted is a deep sleeper and was still sleeping when I dragged the man out of the room. That posed a lot of threat to my kids and I had to withdraw them instantly. If only Ted knew that I was caring for him and not being harsh and strict. We left as soon as the ugly incident occurred.I d
“Mr. Vincent doesn't like people wandering the halls.”I paused midway as I heard Bruno's voice. I turned towards him and he had the same warm smile on his face.“Oh. I'm so sorry,” I muttered as I strolled back towards the dining table. I had already walked towards the far end of one of the corridors before Bruno interrupted.Bruno gave a satisfactory nod at my apology. “I know you may need a tour around the house, but Master Vincent hates when the workers roam about places besides their area of work.”“I totally understand,”He nodded his head the second time. I wondered if that's what he does all day. Cook, clean and smile. He was a valet and a chef.I felt like throwing more questions at Bruno. Questions that would allow me to know more about Vincent and how I can carry out my job perfectly. I stared at Bruno from over the counter, I couldn't afford to ask him directly about what Vincent normally does.“So, how is work here like?”Bruno chuckled as he heard my question. “My work i
