Chapter Four

Klaus’s PoV

“You realize we did the right thing, right?” Aurora mused as she set the table.

“We did the right thing,” I answered absentmindedly while I paced the room.

“So you don’t have to worry, cos doing the right thing is the only thing that matters.”

“Now you’re repeating my words,” she chuckled and stopped my nervous pacing.

Aurora wrapped her hands around me, pressing her soft, perky breast against my chest. Her exposed white pair of teeth was just as perfect as her round, plump face.

“Look at me,” she whispered, gazing right into my eyes.

Her sensual scent filled my nostril and I wrapped my hands around her perky ass, slightly squeezing them while she smiled at me.

“We did the right thing,” she repeated.

“I know,” I smiled back, “I just…”

“Don’t overthink it,” Klaus, she shushed me with a soft kiss on my lips, “Ever is safe. That’s all that matters. Besides, she’s on a journey to reclaim her throne and fulfill her prophecy. She’s the chosen one, that would liberate the Lycans. We should be glad we’re helping her fulfill her destiny.”

“You’re right,” I forced a smile on my face, pulled her closer, and kissed her, “you’re right. We should be happy to have helped.”

“Good,” she broke the embrace and drew me to the table, “Come, let’s eat. We should be celebrating, not moping around as though we’ve committed sacrilege.”

“Sorry,” I chuckled slightly and allowed her to set me on a chair.

The sumptuous smell of dinner filled the house. If I didn’t have quite a lot on my mind, I would have been halfway through the meal before she even brought it to the dining table, yet, here I was, nibbling my food like an adolescent forced to eat bland vegetables.

Aurora was right. We did the right thing. Everyone in the pack knew how badly Axel treated Lisa, the silver collar on her neck was enough proof of her abuse. Silver is fatal to a werewolf, and the poor girl carried that poison around her neck for years. Axel never should have gotten custody of Lisa  in the first place, in fact, I’m still confused as to the events that led her to stay with Axel. It was quite weird that the only daughter of a very powerful, royal family had come to live at the edge of the countryside, with a backwater pack. I had questions, heck, half of the pack had questions, but none of us dared question Axel’s authority. He was Alpha for a reason.

“And I had just gone against the Alpha,” I murmured.

“You said something?” Aurora asked.

“I said the food is incredibly good,” I hastily replied, “you’re such an awesome cook.”

“Thank you,” she smiled and went back to her meal.

Although I did the right thing, I still couldn’t shake the feeling of going behind the back of my Alpha. The same wolf I swore my loyalty to, that I promised my life and deeds. I was his Beta, if anyone could have betrayed him, it never should have been me. I owed my Alpha my loyalty and life, but I loved my wife and soulmate. I guess that was made my betrayal easier. Aurora had talked me into it and made me go against my alpha, proving once again that the pull of a soulmate is stronger than the authority of an Alpha.

We did the right thing. Lisa  is safe, and, hopefully, she would fulfil her prophecy.

I pushed the thought off my mind and was just about to dive into the delicious meal set before me when Axel burst through the door as though he was chased by demons.

“Klaus,” he growled and immediately charged at me. He grabbed me off the chair and pinned me against the wall, “leave us, Aurora,” he said to my wife. Aurora hesitated.

“Go,” I said to her, and she immediately left the room for us.

“Dante said you were the last person to see Lisa.”

An overwhelming sense of relief washed all over me. I thought Axel knew that I had set Lisa free, but he didn’t. I could lie my way out of this tricky situation, I just needed to be a good liar.

“I was performing a routine check across town when I heard the girl scream for help,” I explained, “Dante was about to rape her so I chased him off. Why? Did something happen?”

“She escaped,” he snarled.

“What?” I did my best to feign shock. Axel stared at me as though he was trying to figure out if I was lying, but I steadied my heartbeat and pulled the best poker face I could muster.

“She escaped,” he repeated, and released me, apparently satisfied that I would never betray him. How could I? I was his Beta after all.

“You believe she had help?”

“I’m certain she had help,” he snapped at me, “and I’m going to find their wish upon them a fate worse than death.”

“I’ll put together a search party.”

“Too late,” he sighed, “I saw her collar at the dungeon which means her wolf is free. She’s already long gone.”

“I’ll interrogate the guards.”

“We have pressing matters to attend to,” he paced the room as though he was trying to make a difficult decision, “come,” he made for the door, “we have to go on a journey.”

“Journey?” I asked, surprised by this new development, “What journey? Where are we headed to?” I inquired as I followed Axel out the door.

“You ask too many questions, Klaus,” Axel scoffed, “perhaps you should keep your mouth shut and follow me.”

“I’ll prepare the horses,” I announced.

“No need,” Axel stopped me, “we will transform. Every second could make the entire difference in his decision.”

“His decision?”

“He could choose to kill us all or spare our lives,” Axel turned to face me, and I saw fear in his eyes.

I’ve known Axel all my life, and he was the most courageous man I’d ever seen. Nothing scared him. He’d stood against entire armies and more powerful Alphas, and never backed down an inch. Whoever or whatever this person is, he terribly scared Axel, which could only mean one thing.
