Chapter 11. The conflict

"Thank you for the coffee, Sir. But I don't plan on leaving."

A smile unfurled over his lips, but before it could finally form, it quickly vanished as if a fire extinguished after being doused with water.

He didn't anticipate her to say it so quickly; her spirit was too high and unimaginable, which almost baffled him. He wasn't sure if this was just an imposture to impress him thoroughly, or maybe she was really a genuine person, and if so… damn, his heart was now taken away by this woman.

OCCUPIED for almost three hours, Madeleine could not help but feel slightly weary as her eyes skimmed the words on her laptop screen. She shut off her laptop and stood up from her table, stretching with a sigh. Connor had left the room forty-five minutes ago, which frankly gave her nothing but solace, not because she didn't want to see him but because she felt ashamed of what had transpired between them.
