Chapter 1: Foserense

David's vision changed as he found himself lying on the jungle floor.

Oh, I'm actually here.

David slowly stood up. Now that he was free of the emptiness of space and the omnipotent powers of God, David felt like he was back on earth.

Weird… God said this place had different rules compared to Earth.

"Hmmm, God? Goddess? You there?"

David waited for a response but concluded that he was alone after a minute of pure silence.

Hmmm, I guess I'm alone.

David heard a rustling from a nearby bush. David almost jumps away due to the surprise.

Looking for anything to protect his naked body, David manages to grab a rock.

Raising the rock, David was prepared to bash the first living thing he saw.

Don't be a tiger!

An adorable and small creature comes out of the bush. It resembled a small dog but it was the size of a cat. In addition to its beautiful fur, it has three tails. Once it saw David, its eyes seemed to become a bit bigger.

"Awww."

David couldn't help himself. It was indeed a cute creature.

"Oh, such a cutie!"

David slowly lowered the rock.

The three-tailed dog approached David. David lets down the rock and approaches the adorable creature. The creature continues its cute strut towards David, with its eyes becoming larger for each step.

Mesmerized, David drops his guard.

David leans forward and scoops up the adorable dog-like creature.

"Awwww, you're so adorable! You wittle wittle boy! Yes you ar-"

Before David could finish baby-talking the creature, its appearance suddenly shifts into a monstrous one. The creature's cute face becomes stretched as it bears its yellowish teeth.

Quickly, the creature bites David's arm.

David screams and tries to let go of the creature but its three tails become like coiling snakes and wrap tightly on David's wounded arm.

"You bitch!"

In pain and very angry, David grabs the rock he let down and starts to bash the creature with all his might.

~THUD~

~CRUNCH~

~CRACK~

Driven by adrenaline and pain, David manages to kill the creature by caving in its skull. Its body goes limp and its tails loosen on David's restrained arm.

"Fudge."

David removes the creature from his arm.

Oh, God…

Seeing his bloody arm, David starts to hyperventilate.

No! Calm down!

David curses himself for starting to panic. God already told him that this place was different. He was an idiot for letting his guard down just because something was adorable.

David hisses in pain and looks around.

Okay… Need to fix this…

David looks at his arm again. Fortunately, he acted fast enough, or else the creature would have mangled his arm but it's still not a nice sight to look at.

Ok… time to test if God's gift is truly a gift.

David remembers the inherent power within him.

Yes… Summon a… log…

Almost immediately after he willed it, a small hole appeared in front of him. For some unknown reason, David knew that only he was able to see this hole and at the same time, interact with it.

Following his instincts, David pushes his right hand towards the hole, knowing he'll be able to pull out a book.

Once the book was out, David read the title.

Foserense Log.

David smiled. At least he wasn’t fully alone, he was still supported by a supernaturally supreme being. Smiling to himself, David thought of God’s rather nonchalant attitude.

Well… God wouldn't purposefully fudge me, right? He's not that petty, right?

David takes the book and looks around.

Can't open it here. I need to find a place to hide.

David takes a look at the dead creature. It wasn't moving but he had to make sure. David picks up a stick from the ground and he pokes the animal.

It doesn't move.

Phew… It's dead.

David's arm suddenly felt more painful as the adrenaline slowly wore off.

Ugh… gotta move.

David looks around but due to the thick foliage, he couldn’t discern any correct direction. He instead picks a random direction and moves towards it.

"Ugh."

David pants heavily as he pushes through the thick foliage with his summoned book in his right hand.

"I've got to find a safe place."

Not long, David hears a terrifying sound. It was a mix of the sounds produced by an alligator and a lion with a lower reverb.

Oh...

Despite knowing it was still far from him, David ran. David pushes his Olympic-level body to the limit as he tries to outrun this unknown predator.

The adrenaline numbs the pain and David continues to run. The jungle's foliage is thick and its many obstacles prevent a straight sprint. This would have been helpful if David's pursuer was a human but it wasn't.

~Growl~

Hearing the growl, David rolls forward and just barely dodges the claw aimed at his head. Despite having the same mindset in his previous life, David’s current body was leagues above his previous body. It acted with an instinct unknown to David and it helped make sure he did not die.

Using his physical body’s natural talent, David rolls forward and he quickly turns and ends up in a standing position. Looking at his predator, David manages to see the creature that might take his life.

It was a monstrous four-limbed creature. It had the scales of a reptile covering its body but it had the same body type as a tiger. It was a creature that defied all expectations, especially for David, whose only interaction with animals is the cats he kept in his apartment. At this moment, he started to miss his cat.

What… What is this?!

David felt the creature's bloodlust. It was so fearsome that David almost felt physical pressure from it. The gap between the two of them wasn’t big. If it leaped forward, David would have to run again but at this range, he was at a disadvantage. Feeling a tightness in his throat, David was about to swallow but he stopped himself.

A single move… might trigger this thing… I… how do I get out of here?

David moved his eyes around to study the area.

Nothing… Fudge... Wait.

David knew how strong his body was. He was an Olympic-level athlete. He had the stamina, strength, & agility befitting of a person at the peak of human skill. If David was lucky enough, he could probably throw this thing if it leaped towards him. David slowly lowered his body. The creature noticed this and it lowered its body as well.

It’s coming.

David’s body tensed. The creature releases a predatory growl, which was supposed to scare David but fortunately, David was too focused on the next task, then it leaped forward.

Now!

David crouches as low as he can and jumps forward. Despite lowering his head, David almost feels the sharp claws of the creature cut his head off. Finishing his forward jump with a roll, David takes off in a run. The creature roars again and it begins to chase.

With no end to his stamina, David continues to run, making sure to enter tight spaces that the creature can’t follow through. David’s head start manages to allow him to escape the creature but not without wounds.

Once David was in the clear, he took a moment to study his body.

David still felt numb from the pain.

Must be the adrenaline.

David looked at his arm which was bleeding profusely. Touching his back, David feels a large gash that he received from the creature earlier. Looking at his hand, David sees blood.

Fudge that… giant lizard thing…

“Ow…”

David quickly covers his mouth and looks around. Seeing that he was alone, David heaves a quiet sigh of relief.

~“Okay… I need to find shelter… Or else, I’m really going to die… but I need to treat these wounds of mine.”~

When his mind returns to the thought of healing himself, David looks for the log he summoned.

I dropped the log!

Turning to look behind him, David contemplated going back for his book.

No… that’s suicide…

Throwing the idea away, David decides to look at the problem through a different avenue. Can David get another copy of the log?

Using the power he was inherently familiar with, David pushes his hand through the void once more, summoning the same log he had earlier.

Foserense Log.

David opens the book with his working arm while holding it with his wounded one.

Oh… what?

After opening the book, David looks at the front page.

Foserense Log by David Sanchez.

I guess I’m writing a book.

David reads forward and finds a basic introduction.

Welcome, David, master of the library. The Log of Foserense is now in your hands and will fill with information as you gather more knowledge across the entire world. Good luck

  • God/Goddess

David shudders a bit when he remembers Goddess’ beautiful and perfect form. His body might not be able to take looking at her for even half a minute. The introduction fades and David finds himself staring at an empty blank page.

Okay…. To use this, I have to…

David looks around and he finds a purple-ish fruit with three elongated tubes popping out from it. The tubes seem to pulsate, absorbing the air around it, hoping for some poor and unsuspecting flies to get captured.

Wha-... What is this?

The log seems to recognize David’s curiosity and the first page is filled up with some lines.

????

Classification: Fruit

Effects: Unknown

Possible Effects: Low nourishment & Possible Anti-biotic

Oh? It can be eaten but has anti-biotic properties? Possible effects…

David slowly grabbed the fruit. Since nothing bad happened, David pulls the fruit away. It separates from its branch with a weak pop.

The tubes stop pulsating after a bit.

Looking at the now steady tubes, David finds himself a bit repulsed. Looking through the tubes, David sees semi-digested insects and he feels a bit weak. To reduce his disgust, David snaps off the tubes and throws them to the ground.

Fresh juice oozes out of the snapped parts of the fruit. David gulps a bit and he finally noticed how winded he got due to running.

Almost tempted to bite onto the disgusting fruit, David decides otherwise. Slamming the side of the fruit on a nearby tree, David manages to crudely cut the fruit. Once enough of the juices were out, David then tentatively puts some on his wounds. At first, nothing happens but the wounds start to bubble and David starts to feel a wincing pain. Gritting his teeth, David ignores the pain.

It’s like hydrogen peroxide… Maybe I can purify it? Make it more potent.

The bubbling doesn’t last very long and David realizes that the fruits don’t contain a lot of anti-biotics.

I’ll try to purify it later… remove the fruit parts, leave the anti-biotics…

Taking more fruits from the tree, and removing their disgusting tubes, David manages to clean his arm and back. David felt stinging the entire time but he felt more comfortable knowing that he was less likely to get infected now.

Looking at the log, David notices that the information present in it has changed ever so slightly.

????

Classification: Fruit

Effects: Low-Quality Anti-Biotic

Possible Effects: Low nourishment

Hmmm… it changed when I confirmed that it had anti-biotics… I wonder, can I change it’s name?

Looking at the tubeless fruits, David thinks of a name.

What about biotubes?

Biotubes

Classification: Fruit

Effects: Low-Quality Anti-Biotic

Possible Effects: Low nourishment

David nods. He was satisfied with its current name and he had no intention of changing it otherwise.

Okay… I’ve got a few biotubes, if these can be eaten… wait… if I eat anti-biotics, won’t that be bad?

Biotubes

Classification: Fruit

Effects: Low-Quality Anti-Biotic

Possible Effects: Low nourishment & Lethal at large amounts

Ah, the log inputs my thoughts but since it isn’t confirmed, it isn’t considered an actual effect… Well, I can’t risk dying so I’ll trust the log’s rationalization.

Taking a few thick leaves from a nearby tree, David manages to make a small leaf bag. Storing his biotubes, David starts to travel in a random direction, one where the giant reptile predator isn’t.

Biotubes... Why does that sounds like the name for a Sci-fi candy?
