He brought his pregnant side-chick home, so I got myself a cute Formula One Alpha. ... In his words, "Men are polygamous beings, and I'm very lucky that he chose to be with me even though I look like a giant pumpkin." Chapter 1

1. Celebrity Pride

~Catalina~

I was head over heels in love with my boyfriend, Jeffery Suther, a now-successful Formula One driver for Westbridge Racing.

He was the easiest “yes” I've ever said in my entire life.

And I thought our relationship was great until a message that said "[You'll definitely be an amazing father to our Baby]" popped up on his phone screen.

The text was from Mary Morton, a popular influencer he recently shot a deodorant ad with.

Since Jeffery was still in the bathroom, I took the opportunity to read through the message thread.

Mary Morton's text to him from over a week ago read, "[We're having a baby]."

I was shocked to see the numerous happy emojis Jeffery replied with.

"[I'm going to be a Daddy?]." He asked her, and she replied with a "yes".

I couldn't believe my eyes. So, I tried to convince myself I must be dreaming.

I scrolled to their latest messages while praying there would be an explanation for what I just read.

Instead, I found another message.

"[Currently on my way to the Island resort. Can't wait to see you soon]."

My fingers went cold around his phone.

Mary Morton was coming here, and it seems Jeffery was expecting her. That's probably why he’s taking another shower barely two hours after the last one.

Oh my God!

Our relationship hasn’t been a bed of roses, but there is no such thing as a perfect relationship, right?

I’ve been good to Jeffery. Loyal to a fault. I’ve supported him in every way possible. I’ve literally dedicated my life to his success.

I have been everything he wants me to be.

I even agreed to keep our relationship private because, according to him, people cannot ruin what they don’t know exists.

So, what could be his reason for cheating on me?

There must be an explanation for this.

Surely, he wouldn't get another woman pregnant while he told me he wasn't ready for marriage and kids yet.

In his words, “he’s at the top of his career, and marriage or kids will slow him down.”

When I asked when he’ll be ready, he said maybe in three years.

That conversation happened two days ago, right before he dragged me onto a flight with him and his team for a sponsor-funded Formula One retreat at a luxury private island resort, where Formula One drivers from other teams gathered for a weekend of exclusive events, beach parties, and lavish celebrations.

Two days ago, he'd looked me in the eyes and told me he wasn't ready for marriage and children.

Yet, a week ago, he was celebrating the news that another woman was carrying his baby.

So, he wasn't against fatherhood.

He was against being a father with me.

Vibrating with rage, I confronted him immediately as he stepped into the suite.

“You're cheating on me? With the influencer? If you knew you wanted her here, why bring me?"

He picked his phone off the bed and tapped the screen, muttering under his breath.

"Catty, calm down. It's not what it looks like." He replied slowly.

"Please, for the love of God, make me understand."

He scratched his head and slipped his phone into his pants pocket.

Then his voice mellowed, "I’m a celebrity. These girls flock around me. It's like metals and magnets. There is no remedy."

He stepped closer, taking my arm gently. "You have no reason to complain, sweetheart. Because even with how unattractive you look, I make sure that you have the life every woman out there would die for." His voice was so tender, almost affectionate, that you'd think he was saying something sweet instead of reminding me how little he thinks of me.

"I chose you,” He points his index finger at me. “And that should be a big win for you. Despite a pregnancy, I still didn't choose Mary Morton. I chose you. We just have to find a way to navigate the current situation. There are lots of celebrities out there with baby mamas. These things are in men's nature."

Christ!

If my father were to be in this room, he would've laughed so hard in my face and said, “This is the idiot you chose over your own family.”

I am so mad at myself.

So pissed that I want to punch something, and it definitely isn't the wall.

“What are you saying, Jeffrey?” I asked in a heated tone.

“I’m a good man,” he continued. “I literally have to fight off tons of amazing, toned, and sexy women every day just to be with you. You do know that men are polygamous beings, right? Yet, I chose only you, even with how unpleasing to the eye you look." He raised my hand to his lips and planted a kiss there.

I angrily snatched it from him immediately, but he continued speaking anyway.

"At some point, you have to cut me some slack, Catty. I get you nice stuff...” He started making counts with his fingers. “I get you perfumes, jewelry, clothes-”

“Stop trying to gaslight me!” I snapped, my eyes burning with unshed tears at his cruel words.

He hissed angrily. “You’re just ungrateful.”

"Ungrateful?” I asked, stunned. “You call me ungrateful when, if anything, you’re the ungrateful one." I was literally shaking at this point, my heart pounding so hard I could barely breathe. "You are despicable, Jeffrey! You told me you didn't want kids! Do you even remember?"

"No, you are despicable!" He snapped. "What the hell do you think this is? Have you even seen yourself in the mirror, Catalina? How do you expect me to be with someone as shapeless as you? As a matter of fact, you are the reason I cheated! You have lost your spark!! I am a celebrity, for crying out loud; I deserve to be seen with someone who will complement my status.”

“What...”

"Look, I will not remain in an exclusive relationship with a giant pumpkin.” He added, making a nasty swing of his fingers at me, as if I was damaged goods.

"I gained some weight and so what?!" I thundered at him, my voice trembling with anger. "I wasn’t always like this. I was battling depression because I got pregnant for you!” I jabbed a finger toward his chest. “And you abandoned me with the pregnancy, with the excuse that you didn't want kids. Now you have the effrontery to get someone else pregnant!”

Everything in me was threatening to break. I was hurt, mad, raging. Yet, Jeffery didn't seem to give a fuck.

I flinched when his fingers jabbed my flesh through my top, ignoring everything I just said.

“All meat," he said, jabbing his fingers over my stomach. "Jiggly fat everywhere.” He snorted cruelly.

My eyes burned as I swallowed an invisible lump down my throat, my heart reeling with hurt.

"You cheated on me. Now you're gaslighting me and mocking my body. After giving you five years of my life." I broke into tears. "I believed in you and invested in your dreams physically, emotionally, financially-"

“Blah, blah, blah. I asked you to be my girlfriend, didn't I? Isn't that more than enough repayment for whatever coin you spent on me? Do you even know what it means to bag me as a boyfriend? I’m the f*cking prize, Catalina! The f*cking prize! If not me, no man would ever want someone like you.”

Dreadful cold washed over me.

Nothing could have prepared me for hearing such cruelty from the man I love.

For five years, I gave Jeffery everything I had: my money, my time, my loyalty, my future.

And he'd made me believe I should be grateful for the privilege of loving him.

I wasted so much time loving the wrong man.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, but it did nothing to stop the tears.

I needed air.

I needed to get away from him before I fell apart completely.

I stumbled out of the suite without looking back.

And Jeffery?

He stood there, looking unbothered.
