CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Nora walked into the house. She passed her father's study and saw the door opened. She peeked in and saw him sitting with his head thrown back and his eyes closed, numerous files scattered on his desk. He looked miserable from a distance. She wanted to go in when she saw her mother approaching with a tray in her hands. She quickly hid herself. She had no idea why she did that.

"She wasn't doing anything bad after all, so why did she feel like she needed to hide?" The question rang in her brain.

She watched her mother walk into the study. She peeked in to get a clearer view. For some reasons that she can't comprehend, she felt that she might hear something if she stayed enough. Maybe for a few more minutes.

"I brought your coffee," Penelope said, gently placing the tray on the small table directly opposite the desk. She sat on the couch beside it and poured the coffee. Alex stood up from the chair and went to sit next to his wife.

"Thank you honey," Alex said, taking a sip of the cof
