CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Fred walked up to his mother who was sitting outside their trailer. He contemplated whether to tell her about what was on his mind but he later decided otherwise. He turned to go back into the trailer.

Martha turned around when she heard footsteps. She saw her son struggling to walk into the trailer with his crutches. She called out to him.

"Come sit with me "she said as she gently tapped the empty space beside her.

Fred walked back to his mother and sat next to her. They both looked up to the sky. It was a starry night. It had become an habit of Martha's to stare at the stars on a starry night. She believed her late husband had become one of the stars shining bright and watching over them.

Tears welled up in the corner of her eyes threatening to fall. She blinked in order to stop the tears from falling. Fred didn't notice the tears in his mother's eyes until she sniffed. His gaze traveled to her face.

"Mum, you're crying," he said softly.

He gently dabbed the tears away from her
