Alice opened her eyes and yawned. She stood up groggy and walked to the bathroom. She saw her reflection in the mirror and screamed. She was quick to place her hand on her mouth to prevent her from screaming further. Her hair looked disheveled and her eyes looked so puffy. She ran to the bathroom. She came out after taking a bath and stared at herself in the mirror. She smiled at her reflection. She remembered how your g cared for her the previous night. She chuckled slightly.She got dressed and left the room. She made a mental note to avoid her mother at any costs. Nora laid on her bed trying to get some sleep. But no matter how long she tries, sleep seems to be miles away from her. Frustrated, she got up and walked to the window. She stared into space. She heard a knock on her door. She wondered who it could be. She was sure her mother would still be chatting with Lucas by now, and her father would probably be in the study with his head buried in piles of files. "Who is it?" She asked. "It's me," came the response from the other side of the door. She recognized the voice to be her father's. She wondered if she had perhaps done something wrong and was going to be scolded. "Come in dad," she said as she mentally prepared herself for what might happen next. The door creaked open and Alex walked in with a tray of food in his hands. She was a bit surprised by the gesture. Alice walked into the house. She walked to the stairs when she suddenly stopped. She decided to go to her mum and inform her about the party. "Mum," she called as she walked to her study. She entered and saw her father going through some files. He stood up immediately when he saw her."Hello princess," he said, smiling widely. "Hey dad, where is mum?" She asked. "She went to get something, she'll be back soon," he said. "How is school?" He asked. "It was fine dad," she replied. "I'll be in my room," she added. Alice was about to leave the study when Patricia entered. Her gaze went directly to Paul who was standing by her desk. Her eyes widened in shock. She dropped the glass of water she was holding, the glass shattered on impact."Mum!" Alice called in surprise. Patricia looked at Alice. Nora walked out of her classroom. She was the last person to leave the classroom. She dreaded going to the diner after what transpired between Alice and her during lunch. She felt like Alice was mad at her. She had barely taken a few steps out of the class when she heard a voice. "Thank God," She was startled. She turned around swiftly trying to figure out who the intruder was when she saw Fred sitting in a corner. "Gosh, you scared me," she said. "I thought you were never gonna come out, I was waiting for you," he said. "Why?" Was the first question that came to her mind, but she decided against asking. "Okay then, let's go," she said. "Yeah but I need help to stand up," he said and grinned. Nora rolled her eyes before walking to him. He helped him up and they both walked away. ...Nora and Fred walked into the diner. The bell rang signifying the end of the class and beginning of lunch break. A group of students, mostly girls, rushed towards Reggie. "Reggie, why have you been absent all these days?" A girl asked."What happened to your arm?" Another one asked."Are you hurt deeply?" The questions kept rushing in. "Relax, I just had a little accident at home," Reggie said with a smile."Did you fall down the stairs?" A girl chipped in.Reggie was about to reply to her when he caught a glimpse of Fred struggling to stand up from his seat with the crutches. He stood up from his seat and walked to him."Let me help you," he said.Fred looked at him surprised. It took him a few seconds to wrap his head around it. "You sure your friends wouldn't mind?" Fred asked, his gaze went behind Reggie. Reggie followed his gaze and saw the group that was talking to him earlier glaring at him. They were obviously shocked as they had probably never seen him talk to Fred before."They'd be fine," Reggie said and

Fred walked up to his mother who was sitting outside their trailer. He contemplated whether to tell her about what was on his mind but he later decided otherwise. He turned to go back into the trailer. Martha turned around when she heard footsteps. She saw her son struggling to walk into the trailer with his crutches. She called out to him. "Come sit with me "she said as she gently tapped the empty space beside her. Fred walked back to his mother and sat next to her. They both looked up to the sky. It was a starry night. It had become an habit of Martha's to stare at the stars on a starry night. She believed her late husband had become one of the stars shining bright and watching over them.Tears welled up in the corner of her eyes threatening to fall. She blinked in order to stop the tears from falling. Fred didn't notice the tears in his mother's eyes until she sniffed. His gaze traveled to her face. "Mum, you're crying," he said softly.
