"Oh there is a wallet here," Fred called the attention of the others. He picked it up and made to open it before Nora snatched it from his hands.
"Give it to me me," she said."Fine," Fred raised his hands defensively."Hey! That is not fine. You can't just snatch something from someone like that." Alice fired at Nora. She snatched the wallet from her hands."Give it back," Nora yelled."No I won't," Alice said. She tossed the wallet over to Reggie as Nora advanced towards her."There is a passport, some money and some stuffs.." Reggie said, his voice trailing off.As Fred looked more closely at the bag, he realized that the body was inside it. The person had been stuffed into the bag and left in the forest."Guys you need to see this," Fred said in horror. They all moved closer to the bag.The group was horrified, and they didn't know what to do.Suddenly, they heard the sound of sirens approaching. The police were on their way. The group looked at each other, their faces white with fear. They knew that they were in big trouble. As the sirens got closer, the group debated what to do. They knew that if they ran, they would look guilty. But if they stayed, they would have to explain how they found the body. They were trapped, and they didn't know what to do.Then, Alice had an idea. "What if we say that we found the bag first, and that we looked inside out of curiosity?" she whispered. "Then, we could say that we saw the body and ran away.""Very stupid of you Alice," Nora said sarcastically."Cut it girls. This is not time to fight. Let's run." Reggie suggested. The group turned and ran, their hearts pounding in their chests. They could hear the sirens getting closer, and they knew that they had to get as far away as possible. They ran through the forest, their feet pounding on the ground. They were out of breath and exhausted, but they kept going. Finally, they emerged from the trees, and they saw their town in the distance. They stopped for a moment, gasping for breath. Then, they realized that the sirens were getting closer. They had to keep moving. They made their way to the town, hoping that they could find somewhere to hide.As they reached the edge of the town, they saw a small gas station. The lights were on, and there was a single car parked in the lot. The group hesitated, not sure what to do. But then, they saw a figure emerge from the gas station. It was a woman, and she was walking towards them. The woman looked at them, and she saw the panic in their faces. "What's wrong?" she asked, her voice kind but firm. "Did something happen?"The group looked at each other, unsure of what to say. But then, Alice spoke up."We were lost," she said trying to catch her breath."Really? Let me grab my phone inside and call the cops. We need to get you home as soon as possible. The weather does not look fine. You should come in and rest." The woman said before walking back to where she emerged from."Could you be any more dumb?" Nora cried as soon as the woman was out of sight."I didn't know what to say," Alice replied."Calm down, let's think. She must not call the cops." Reggie said, ruffling his hair."Let's just keep running till we get to somewhere safe," Fred said. The group ran as fast as they could, their feet pounding on the pavement. They didn't know where they were going, but they knew they had to get as far away from the gas station as possible. They ran for what felt like hours, their hearts pounding in their chests. Finally, they collapsed on the ground, exhausted."What are we going to do?" Alice asked, her voice hoarse. "We can't go home.""We'll have to figure something out," Nora said, her eyes wide with fear."We just have to go home, but we will never speak of this again. Not among us not to anyone." Reggie said while still trying to control his breath. Alice brought out her inhaler from her backpack and hurriedly took some puffs from it."Didn't know you were asthmatic." Nora said. Alice glared at her."No offense," Nora said."Can we focus on the main issue here?" Reggie said."This incident should follow us to the grave. It's not cool to be caught up in a murder case and definitely not the way we planned to spend our sophomore year." Reggie said."Well it might not be how I intended but solving a murder mystery as always been my dream." Nora said."Yeah, it'd be cool. I could write a documentary on it." Alice agreed."Can you guys be serious? We have a real problem here. This is real life not some kind of documentary." Fred said, raising his voice. The group agreed not to tell anyone about what they saw in the woods. It would be a secret they'd take to their graves. They split and went to their various houses....The next day in school, the group went to Ms Johnson to tell her they couldn't complete the project due to the weather.Ms Johnson gave them an F on the course."Arghh! I got an F, for the first time." Nora cried."Believe me, it is the first time for all of us. I have never gotten below an A- before." Alice said."Okay. But why are you talking nicely to me? We are not even friends?" Nora said.Alice was about to reply when she saw Fred coming towards them with a worried look on his face."Guys we have a problem," Fred said to the girls."The wallet was found," he added. They stood starstruck.Alice opened her eyes and yawned. She stood up groggy and walked to the bathroom. She saw her reflection in the mirror and screamed. She was quick to place her hand on her mouth to prevent her from screaming further. Her hair looked disheveled and her eyes looked so puffy. She ran to the bathroom. She came out after taking a bath and stared at herself in the mirror. She smiled at her reflection. She remembered how your g cared for her the previous night. She chuckled slightly. She got dressed and left the room. She made a mental note to avoid her mother at any costs. With this thought, she walked sneakily down the stairs."Going somewhere this early, Alice,"Alice halted midways as she heard her mother's voice. She bit her lip and cursed inwardly. She turned around slowly and saw her mother standing with arms crossed. "Without breakfast too? "Patricia said with an eyebrow raised."Good morning mum, I'm just heading to school," Alice said and forced a smile on her face. "Good mornin
Nora laid on her bed trying to get some sleep. But no matter how long she tries, sleep seems to be miles away from her. Frustrated, she got up and walked to the window. She stared into space. She heard a knock on her door. She wondered who it could be. She was sure her mother would still be chatting with Lucas by now, and her father would probably be in the study with his head buried in piles of files. "Who is it?" She asked. "It's me," came the response from the other side of the door. She recognized the voice to be her father's. She wondered if she had perhaps done something wrong and was going to be scolded. "Come in dad," she said as she mentally prepared herself for what might happen next. The door creaked open and Alex walked in with a tray of food in his hands. She was a bit surprised by the gesture. She hurried to him and was quick to collect the tray from him. She placed it on the small table in front of the couch. She proceeded to sit on the couch. Alex sat beside her
Alice walked into the house. She walked to the stairs when she suddenly stopped. She decided to go to her mum and inform her about the party. "Mum," she called as she walked to her study. She entered and saw her father going through some files. He stood up immediately when he saw her."Hello princess," he said, smiling widely. "Hey dad, where is mum?" She asked. "She went to get something, she'll be back soon," he said. "How is school?" He asked. "It was fine dad," she replied. "I'll be in my room," she added. Alice was about to leave the study when Patricia entered. Her gaze went directly to Paul who was standing by her desk. Her eyes widened in shock. She dropped the glass of water she was holding, the glass shattered on impact."Mum!" Alice called in surprise. Patricia looked at Alice. She hadn't noticed her presence before as she was focused on the sight of her husband with a file on his hands. She forced a smile on her face."Hey Alice, I need you to go to your room right
Nora walked out of her classroom. She was the last person to leave the classroom. She dreaded going to the diner after what transpired between Alice and her during lunch. She felt like Alice was mad at her. She had barely taken a few steps out of the class when she heard a voice. "Thank God," She was startled. She turned around swiftly trying to figure out who the intruder was when she saw Fred sitting in a corner. "Gosh, you scared me," she said. "I thought you were never gonna come out, I was waiting for you," he said. "Why?" Was the first question that came to her mind, but she decided against asking. "Okay then, let's go," she said. "Yeah but I need help to stand up," he said and grinned. Nora rolled her eyes before walking to him. He helped him up and they both walked away. ...Nora and Fred walked into the diner. They saw Alice and Reggie laughing about something. Nora scoffed. Fred stared at her. She turned and noticed him staring at her. "Why are you staring at me
The bell rang signifying the end of the class and beginning of lunch break. A group of students, mostly girls, rushed towards Reggie. "Reggie, why have you been absent all these days?" A girl asked."What happened to your arm?" Another one asked."Are you hurt deeply?" The questions kept rushing in. "Relax, I just had a little accident at home," Reggie said with a smile."Did you fall down the stairs?" A girl chipped in.Reggie was about to reply to her when he caught a glimpse of Fred struggling to stand up from his seat with the crutches. He stood up from his seat and walked to him."Let me help you," he said.Fred looked at him surprised. It took him a few seconds to wrap his head around it. "You sure your friends wouldn't mind?" Fred asked, his gaze went behind Reggie. Reggie followed his gaze and saw the group that was talking to him earlier glaring at him. They were obviously shocked as they had probably never seen him talk to Fred before."They'd be fine," Reggie said and
Fred walked up to his mother who was sitting outside their trailer. He contemplated whether to tell her about what was on his mind but he later decided otherwise. He turned to go back into the trailer. Martha turned around when she heard footsteps. She saw her son struggling to walk into the trailer with his crutches. She called out to him. "Come sit with me "she said as she gently tapped the empty space beside her. Fred walked back to his mother and sat next to her. They both looked up to the sky. It was a starry night. It had become an habit of Martha's to stare at the stars on a starry night. She believed her late husband had become one of the stars shining bright and watching over them.Tears welled up in the corner of her eyes threatening to fall. She blinked in order to stop the tears from falling. Fred didn't notice the tears in his mother's eyes until she sniffed. His gaze traveled to her face. "Mum, you're crying," he said softly. He gently dabbed the tears away from her
