Lyra

My legs wouldn’t stop moving. They swayed restlessly, my knees knocking against each other as I rolled from one side of the bed to the other. My body was buzzing, my mind replaying the moment over and over again like a song stuck on repeat.

He likes me.

He really does.

We did it again… oh God, we actually did it again.

A smile crept onto my lips before I could stop it, my heart leaping in my chest with a mix of excitement and disbelief. I pressed my palms against my burning cheeks, burying my face in the pillow, muffling a squeal that broke out of me. My whole body shook with joy. I’d never felt this kind of rush before. The memory of his touch clung to my skin, leaving me unable to keep still.

The door suddenly creaked, and before I could sit up, it swung open with a loud click. Mirae stumbled in, her chest heaving, her breaths coming in sharp, uneven bursts. She nearly fell flat on her face before catching herself against the wall. Sweat clung to her forehead, strands of her ha

Lyra“You like him already?” My eyes narrowed into slits, cutting into Mirae like sharp blades. Her lips curled into a half-smirk, half-shrug, like she didn’t care what I thought. “What if I do?” I scoffed, leaning forward, my glare never breaking away from hers. “Don’t you think it’s too early? You don’t even know this guy. You just met him.” My words shot out like bullets.Mirae’s expression shifted instantly. Her wide eyes burned back at me, trembling with something between anger and hurt. Her chest rose and fell sharply as if she couldn’t believe I had said that. “What about you?” she fired back, her voice cracking but strong. “You just met him also, but you’re already claiming to be seeing him!”The room went dead silent. Her words slapped me across the face harder than she ever could. My jaw clenched, and I could feel my throat tighten. She wasn’t wrong.I swallowed hard, trying to steady my voice, but when I finally spoke, it came out softer, almost defeated. “It’s not like I

Lyra“Ahhh!” Nick groaned suddenly, clutching the side of his head with both hands. His voice raw, like the sound of someone fighting something deep inside.Panic shot through me. My breath caught, my body tensed as I stepped toward him. “What is it?” My voice came out rushed, trembling. His fingers dug into his scalp, his nails biting into his own skin. His shoulders hunched forward, his chest heaving. His eyes, those eyes I had come to know so well, trembled violently, twitching in ways that didn’t feel human. His lips parted, his teeth clamped hard, and that’s when I saw it.His fangs.Long, sharp, hungry. They were pushing down from his gums, dragging across his lips as if they had a will of their own. He was fighting the urge, fighting it so hard that every muscle in his jaw twitched. His breath came sharp, through clenched teeth, and he bit down harder as though he could stop them from fully emerging. My heart slammed against my ribs. Fear and something else, something dangerous

Lyra“I’m Jasper.” His voice carried a strange confidence as he winked at me. Then, almost casually, he shifted his gaze away, striding toward Mirae. The men who had been holding her, the ones with claws and eyes that didn’t look human, scattered the moment he approached. Their retreat was so quick, it was like his presence alone forced them back. Whoever Jasper was, they clearly feared him.“Thanks so much,” Mirae breathed out, her voice full of awe. Her wide eyes followed him like he was some kind of hero. The way she looked at him, cheeks flushed, lips parted slightly, made it obvious. She was drawn to him instantly. But I wasn’t Mirae.I was still frozen, my pulse pounding in my ears, staring at him because something about him unsettled me in a way I couldn’t explain. He knew my name. That thought made my skin crawl. My throat tightened as I forced the words out. “How do you know my name?”Jasper’s lips curved into a small, mischievous smile. He bit down on his lower lip, watching

Lyra“What news?” My voice cracked as I stared at the officer, my nails digging into the cold metal bars. The words tumbled out of me sharp and desperate, my heart clawing its way up my throat. For a moment, he didn’t answer. His expression was hard, unreadable, his jaw tight as though weighing if I even deserved to know. Then finally, he exhaled, his shoulders loosening just a fraction.“He’s awake.”The words struck me like lightning. My whole chest lit up with relief, hope flooding through me so quickly that it almost hurt.“He’s awake!” I repeated, a wide, shaky smile tearing across my face. My palms slapped against the bars as I leaned forward, my voice lifting with frantic joy. “Then get me out right now! You can’t keep me in here if he’s awake. I didn’t hurt him. Please, just let me go!”But the officer’s glare snapped the air between us like a whip. His lips pressed into a thin line as he raised one hand, commanding silence.“Not so fast,” he said sharply. “You’re still under

Lyra“Hands up now!” the officer bellowed, his voice sharp and commanding, slicing through the chaos. My arms shot up before I could think. My breath trembled out of me, chest rising and falling as if the air itself had turned heavy. The metallic click of guns being cocked echoed around me like thunder in a storm.“Get down!” another officer barked, his tone even harsher, and my knees buckled. I dropped to the ground, my palms pressed against the cold floor as they rushed toward me. The air reeked of sweat, leather, and gunpowder. In a blur of movement, cold metal bit into my wrists, handcuffs. My shoulders wrenched painfully back. I winced but kept silent, fear sitting like a rock in my throat.Nick’s voice exploded across the air. “How dare you touch my woman!”I lifted my head just in time to see him shove forward, his face twisted with fury, his eyes blazing like fire. His fists clenched, muscles coiled, ready to strike against the swarm of officers.“There are too many!” I scream

LyraDamian writhed on the floor, his face contorting with agony as Nick’s dagger pierced deeper into his chest. His screams echoed like claws dragging across my skin, the sound lodging itself inside my skull. My eyes refused to look away, even though every instinct told me to. I watched him twitch and jerk, watched the arrogance melt off his face, watched the terror bloom in his eyes. But even as Damian struggled, his words still pulsed through me like venom: Nick only wanted your blood. He never loved you.The thought wouldn’t let go. It slashed at me, over and over, until my chest felt raw. I stared at Nick, the man I had trusted, the man I had loved so recklessly, and all I could think was, what if it was true? Why else would someone like him, flawless and untouchable, look twice at me? What else could it be, if not a trick? My heart throbbed painfully as I remembered how effortlessly he’d pulled me in. The way his eyes softened when he looked at me, the way he said my name like
