Nick

The echo of my footsteps chased me down the sterile hospital corridor. My chest tightened as I reached the room. The sharp scent of antiseptic filled my lungs, mixing with the pounding of my heartbeat. My palms were clammy, my throat dry, but I pushed the door open anyway.

I didn’t even have time to breathe before a hot sting cracked across my face. My head snapped to the side, skin burning where the slap landed. For a moment, the world tilted.

I raised my hand to my cheek, disbelief coursing through me. “Mom…?” My voice cracked, trembling, almost childlike. My eyes stung, tears threatening. “Why? Why would you—”

Her hands were shaking, but her eyes blazed with a fury I’d rarely seen. “Why did you let this happen to your brother?” she spat, her voice trembling, her words like knives. “The police contacted me. They’re on their way here now, for you now, Nick. They said they have footage, that you stabbed your brother!”

The floor seemed to give way beneath me. My breath caught in m

Nick“Lyraaaa…”My voice came out distorted, thick with sleep, rough at the edges as I pulled her closer to me, my body still buried deep in unconsciousness. My arm tightened instinctively around her, drawing her flush against my chest. I smiled without realizing it, a lazy, satisfied smile stretching across my face as comfort settled into my bones, she was warm.My hand moved on its own, familiar, relaxed, settling against her body as I pulled her even closer, pressing my face toward her neck. Everything felt right, like the night before hadn’t been a dream. Then…I paused, something was wrong.I inhaled again, slower this time, this smell…My brows knitted faintly as my mind stirred, confusion bleeding into my sleep. This wasn’t Lyra’s scent. It was sharper and different, unfamiliar. What’s this smell? My eyes flew open instantly.Blonde hair filled my vision. My heart slammed violently against my ribs.Blonde…?What the heck? How the heck did Lyra’s hair change to blonde? My thought

LyraMy hands moved to the towel instinctively, fingers tightening as I adjusted it around my body, as I stepped closer to him lying on the floor. One hand remained clamped over my mouth, muffling the sharp sound of my breathing. My entire body was shaking now, small, uncontrollable tremors that started in my fingers and spread everywhere else.Oh no.My heart slammed hard against my ribs.He can’t be dead… can he?The thought terrified me so much my knees weakened. I lowered myself slowly, squatting beside him, my movements stiff and unsure. My hands hovered in the air for a moment before I forced myself to act, with trembling fingers, I leaned closer and brought them near his nose.My breath hitched sharply.Oh no… no, no.My legs gave out completely, and I sank to the floor beside him, the cold surface biting into my skin, my chest felt tight, like there wasn’t enough air in the room. I leaned closer, panic flooding every part of me.Why isn’t he breathing? My heart began racing w

LyraThe moment he pulled away, the room seemed to tilt, I was still breathing hard, chest rising too fast, my legs trembling beneath me like they didn’t remember how to hold weight anymore. My fingers curled instinctively into the edge of the counter, knuckles pale, as if letting go would make everything I’d just done crash down all at once.Nick stepped back first, he didn’t look rushed, didn’t look awkward, he simply reached for a tissue from the counter like this was routine, like nothing unusual had just happened. I watched him wipe his hands calmly, methodically, before tossing the tissue away and pulling on his shorts.Meanwhile, I stood there frozen, exposed in more ways than one, heat flooding my face as reality slammed into me.What the heck have I done? The question screamed in my head.My hands flew to my hair, fingers tangling through it as panic set in. I turned away from him quickly, scrambling for my clothes, my movements clumsy, rushed, like I could somehow undo the l

LyraDamn.“I want more…”My voice came out breathless, shaky, and Nick didn’t waste a second. His lips crashed into mine again, hard, hungry. My hands pressed into his hair, pulling him closer, needing more, craving it.His hands fumbled at my body while his mouth did the real damage, teasing, sucking, stealing my breath until I couldn’t think straight. My eyes fluttered shut, my fingers gripping his hair like it was the only thing keeping me upright.God… he’s so good.I missed this. His mouth moved lower, leaving my lips, and suddenly we were both breathing hard. But he wasn’t done, not even close. His hands slid to my thighs as his kisses trailed downward, slow and deliberate, from my chest to my stomach. My head fell back, my body arching instinctively under his touch. My hands moved without thought, slipping away what was in the way, his dark eyes lifted to mine as he bit his lower lip, gaze heated.“So clean…”His hand moved between my thighs, but I caught his wrist. He paused,

LyraHis body went rigid, in shock, like my words had slammed into him harder than any slap ever could.“I want you.”The silence that followed was loud, Nick slowly turned around, like he was afraid I’d vanish if he moved too fast. His brows pulled together, lips parting slightly, eyes scanning my face with disbelief written all over them, his hands lifted halfway, hovering in the air like he wanted to touch me but didn’t trust himself to. Or maybe didn’t trust me.“Do you… mean that?” he asked quietly. “No pressure.”That almost broke me, the way his shoulders were tense, like a man bracing for rejection. The way his jaw flexed as if he was holding himself back. The innocence in his expression, God, it was so unlike the confident man who had pinned me against the counter minutes ago that it almost made me smile, Instead, I stepped closer.I stretched my legs just enough to brush against his, closing the distance slowly, deliberately. His breath hitched, I felt it before I saw it. I

LyraMy eyes widened. The words hit me before I could brace for them, before I could hide the reaction flashing across my face.“Wh…at do you mean?” I stammered.I didn’t look at him, I couldn’t, my gaze dropped to the counter behind him, to the faint reflection of us in the glass, me frozen, him towering, unreadable. But Nick didn’t give me the space to escape. He leaned in anyway, deliberately, slowly, until his face was so close I could feel his breath brushing my skin.“What… are you…” I breathed. The sentence never made it out whole. He tilted his head, eyes locking onto mine with a focus so intense it felt like the room narrowed around us. Our noses brushed, just barely. My stomach flipped, my throat tightening as I gulped hard.“I mean,” he said quietly, voice low, controlled, “you. I got you. And tonight I’ll be..”“Stop!”The word shot out of me, sharp and panicked. My hands lifted instinctively, palms pressing lightly against his chest, as if that would create distance, but
