I watched her face closely. There were tears in her eyes. I wanted to know what was making her tear up, but before I could do anything— She burst out laughing. She looked at me, finally noticing how worried I was. "A minute, Mom." She turned fully to me. "The triplets are here, earlier than expected." My eyes widened. Wow...that's such good news. Lena put the phone on speaker and set it on the bed between us. Rosa's voice came through weak and tired, like she had just exhausted every single ounce of energy in her body. "—all three of them are healthy. Your father is here beside me, crying uncontrollably... so dramatic. He watched the whole process and he cried through it. The nurses kept asking if he needed an oxygen mask to breathe properly. At one point, I wondered who was the one in pain." I laughed
She wrapped her arms around my neck, still laughing as I carried her toward the bedroom. Her breath was warm against my ear, her body soft against mine. "Where are you taking me?" "Somewhere I can properly discipline your disrespectful mouth." "Oh my God! What does that even mean!" she wheezed, her laughter dissolving into helpless giggles. "You will know soon enough." She was still laughing when I nudged the bedroom door open with my shoulder and set her down on the edge of the bed. But the laugh caught in her throat when she saw the look on my face. I didn't say anything. I just knelt in front of her and took her chin between my thumb and forefinger, and tilted her face up. She bit her lower lip. "So how do you plan to punish my mouth?" She asked that with her eyes dancing, but her voice had gone softer. Breathier. Her pulse fluttered at the base of her throat, and I could feel the slight tremble in her jaw beneath my fingers. "How am I going to do it?" "Yeah
God, I love to see her laugh like this every day. "Come here," I murmured, already reaching for her. She narrowed her eyes, that familiar spark of mischief flickering in her gaze. "Why?" "Because I want to kiss my wife." She tilted her head, pretending to consider it. "Have you submitted the appropriate application then?" I blinked. "Application? Am I not qualified yet?" "You haven't even asked the big question yet." "I see." I slowly released her waist and took a deliberate step back, before dropping to one knee. Her eyes widened, and her hand flew to her chest. "Tarzan!" "Dear Lena, light of my life, bane of my existence. Would you be so gracious as to grant me one kiss?" She shook her head, laughing. "That's not the big question!" "Is that a yes?" "No!" She snapped it, but she was smiling so hard it barely counted as a protest. Her cheeks were flushed pink, and her eyes, those beautiful warm brown eyes were shining with a happiness that made my chest ache. I
"What?" she asked, catching my gaze. "Nothing," I said, stepping closer and tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "There's definitely something." "Alright, I was just thinking—are you planning to visit Diana, or adopting her baby?" "Both." I blinked. "Both?" "I mean, it's Diana's baby, and your godson. We have to spoil him. It's like our first baby." At this rate she might kidnap that baby. I shook my head, unable to stop the smile spreading across my face. Sometimes, I wondered how I had managed to live so long without her. Twenty-four years of my life was missing this amazing gift. "What's that look for?" she asked, catching me staring. "What look?" "You know what I'm saying." She frowned. I chuckled. "I'm just wondering how I got so lucky and got you to fall inlove with me." Her smile softened. "By being so handsome, obviously." "Oh, is that it?" "That, and the fact that you make excellent tea." I placed a hand over my chest. "Well, I'm happy to kno
Later that evening, we went back to my place. Lena was perched on the kitchen island counter, watching me move around the kitchen as I made us both tea. "You look so handsome whenever you're shirtless in the kitchen," she said, a playful smile tugging at her lips. I glanced over my shoulder at her, raising an eyebrow. "Really?" "Yep," she nodded, her smile widening. I set the tea aside and walked over, positioning myself between her legs. I placed my hands on the counter on either side of her, caging her in. "If I look that handsome, why don't you appreciate me with a kiss?" "A kiss?" she echoed, tilting her head. "Yes. Staring is just not enough." She laughed, then her hands came up to rest on my neck. "Alright, come here." I leaned in, and she kissed me softly. But I deepened it, cupping the back of her head and pulling her closer with my other arm wrapped around her waist. She melted into me, her fingers threading through my hair. When we finally pulled apart, I pres
"Why would we—""I didn't say it would happen," Diana interrupted, gently. "I'm just looking for the worst thing that could happen to you, knowing how much it means to you. The thing that would break you. And I need to know you won't use it as an excuse to destroy yourself again. Look at you already panicking.""I am not panicking..."I managed."Then promise me."I was silent for a long moment."I promise. No drugs. No matter what."I finally said."Good." I could hear the smile in her voice. "That's enough for me. Now—your godson will be a month old soon, and you haven't seen him yet. How sweet of you."I rubbed the back of my neck, guilt prickling at me."I know. I'm sorry. Things have been—""Crazy. I know. But you're not getting out of this. Come with Lena. If you visit alone, I'm going to pretend I don't know you and call the cops."I laughed despite myself."Noted. I'll bring her along.""You better. Now, the Paris Fashion Show is next Thursday, am I right?""Yeah. Lena had to
You will never truly understand heartbreak until it comes from the same man who once adored you—who protected you, who loved you without hesitation. “What’s the number?” My husband’s voice came from the doorway. I flinched and looked up. That’s how sad my life had become—the usual routine of ste
The message I sent to my husband Mitch was left unanswered. Just like the ones I sent days ago… weeks ago. He had stopped replying to my texts. I scrolled through the one-sided conversation, my heart tightening at how pathetic it looked. Suddenly, a message popped up. Hoping it was his reply, I
MITCH'S POV I was staring at the TV replaying highlights of the match we’d lost 3-1 with bottles on the table in front of me. I cracked open another one, trying to flush down the frustration inside my chest. My childhood friend Jake walked in from the kitchen, towel over his shoulder, and rai
I forced myself up and walked back into the bedroom Mitch and I had shared for three years of our marriage. I hadn’t slept in that bed for over two years now. Not since I left it. Every morning, he used to wake me up to complain about my snoring. I apologized. Then… I started staying awake
