DIANA’S POV

My eyes trail over the scars on Kael's body, and my heart contracts for some reason.

His whole body is a mess of them. This is the first time I can even see his wrists because he always covers most parts of his body.

Thin silver scars are scattered all over his skin like he’d been beaten with a vine.

I walk to him, my eyes still locked on the scars. I don’t want to, but I’m touching his body—his scars.

He jerks when I touch him, but he doesn’t push me away.

“What are you doing here, Diana?”

“How?” My voice is hoarse. “Who did this to you?”

I'm shaking on his behalf. I can just envision the pain he must have gone through. The scars are deep, even ruining the large dove tattoo on his back.

My scars are nothing compared to his, even though I've been tied up countless time, naked and beaten to the point of death. His are so many. So many marks of torture that make me want to scream for his sake.

“You shouldn’t be in here, Diana,” Kael says. He turns and grabs my hand, stopping
