“Lance, are you serious?”

On the other end of the line, Serena Gray’s voice carried both excitement and disbelief. “Last year, I offered a million dollars to poach you, and you said you’d finally found your family and couldn’t bear to leave them. What did the Lewis family do to push you this far?”

I did not feel like explaining. “If you don’t think you can take the Lewis family down within a year, I’ll go somewhere else. No point wasting each other’s time.”

“No, no, if you join us, I can definitely make it happen!” Serena quickly replied. There was a hint of eager amusement in her laughter, like she was enjoying the spectacle.

“The Lewis family doesn’t still think you’re just some ordinary salesperson, do they? If they do, they deserve to go under. They’re unbelievably stupid!”

After hanging up, I sent my resignation email to HR and started packing up my desk.

Before long, Clive, dressed in a flashy designer suit, strode over, flanked by a few junior managers. “Lance, I know you think the year-end bonus was too small, so I got you some extra benefits.”

He tilted his head toward a supervisor. The supervisor set down a bag of cheap rice and a barrel of unbranded cooking oil beside my desk, lifting his chin arrogantly.

“These are special care packages personally arranged by Mr. Clive. He knows you grew up in an orphanage and never had good rice or oil, so this is to broaden your horizons. You’d better learn some gratitude. Don't be so ungrateful!”

More than 20 years ago, my biological parents and Clive’s parents accidentally swapped their children because of a fire.

After that, Clive grew up as a wealthy young heir in Shoal Bay. My adoptive parents, however, were severely injured in the fire and passed away not long after. I was sent to a local orphanage and only left when I came of age.

Anyone else could mock my poor background, but Clive, the one who took everything from me, had no right to do so!

My expression turned cold, though I put on a mocking smile.

“If Mr. Clive thinks this rice and oil are so great, you should keep them for yourself. Or better yet, take them home and give them to his parents. After all, it’s such a rare luxury. Someone like you, a fake heir with no blood ties who’s taken someone else’s place, ought to treat your parents better than most.”

Clive’s expression instantly darkened. “Lance, what nonsense are you talking about?!”

People around us exchanged looks. Their expressions were full of intrigue.

Even though I had been taken back by the Lewis family for two years, they had never made my identity public to protect Clive’s pride. As a result, many in the company thought I was just some poor relative leeching off them, mocking me both openly and behind my back.

Back then, I thought the Lewis family did not love me yet and just needed time to adjust. That was why I let it go.

However, now that I had decided to cut ties with them, I had no interest in keeping up appearances with Clive. I might as well make everything clear.

“Whether it’s nonsense or not, you know better than anyone. You can play pretend all you want, but it'll never work!”

I let out a cold laugh and turned to leave, only to be blocked by Joanna Lewis, who had rushed over after hearing the commotion.

“Lance, have you lost your mind? Who gave you the nerve to talk to Clive like that?!” Right in front of everyone, she raised her hand and slapped me across the face.

Joanna immediately called Clive. “Clive, did you take the family emergency funds? Mom and Dad are in the hospital and need urgent treatment. Transfer the money back right now!”On the other end of the line came Clive’s contemptuous laugh, mixed with the sound of a woman giggling in the background. “So what if those old fossils are in the hospital? What does that have to do with me? Joanna, are you stupid? I have no blood relation to them. Why should I care if they live or die?!“I’ve been the Lewis family’s son for over twenty years. I’m just taking a little compensation for myself. Don’t you think I’ve earned it?”“Clive! How can you be so selfish? That’s the money Mom and Dad worked so hard for!" Joanna cried out into the phone.“Is that so? Even better for me then! I’m their favorite son anyway. They’d be happy if I spent it. Enough, I’m busy. Stop calling me.”Then, the call ended.Joanna collapsed into a chair in the hospital corridor. Passersby glanced at her strangely, bu

My parents were like a cat on a hot tin roof, pacing frantically around the office.“What do we do? The internet is full of people tearing us apart, and the banks are demanding repayment. If this keeps up, the company is finished! Raymond, let’s go beg Lance. He’s our biological son. As long as he’s willing to come back, the company can still be saved!”My father hesitated for a long time before letting out a heavy sigh. “It’s our only option. Joanna, come with us. You’re his sister. Talk to him. Ask him, for the sake of blood, to spare the Lewis family.”…Downstairs at Gray Corporation’s office, my parents and Joanna stood under the blazing sun. Anxiety was written all over their faces. The moment they saw me walk out of the elevator, they rushed over.“Lance, I know I was wrong! It’s my fault for how I treated you. Please forgive us just this once. Please save the Lewis family!”I gave her an indifferent look and said with a calm tone, “Mrs. Lewis, I don’t think we have anythi

In the CEO’s office of Lewis Corporation, my father lost his temper at Clive for the first time. “Clive! Look at what you’ve done! In just one week, we’ve lost 70% of our clients, and the stock price has completely crashed. What exactly are you good for?!”Clive slumped into the couch, the smell of alcohol still clinging to him. His voice was full of defiance. “Dad, how is this my fault? Those clients were all there because of Lance. He jumped to Gray Corporation. Of course, they’d follow him. Besides, if you hadn’t forced him out back then, would he even be coming after us now?”“You’ve got some nerve talking back!” Joanna sat off to the side, rubbing her aching temples. Her voice sounded tired. “Dad, Mom, there’s no point arguing about this anymore.“Clive, stay out of company business from now on. You don’t understand how to deal with clients. If this keeps up, the company will collapse even faster.”“I don’t understand? And you do?” Clive snapped as irritation flashed across

As soon as I walked out of the company’s building, I saw a black Maybach parked not far away. The window rolled down, revealing a strikingly beautiful face—it was Serena. The moment she saw us, she got out of the car and quickly walked over. “Mr. Lance, you’re finally out. I was worried you might change your mind, so I came to pick you up.”When she noticed my injuries and the blood at the corner of my mouth, her expression instantly darkened. “Wait, did the Lewis family actually lay hands on you just because you resigned?”Before I could answer, she had already turned and opened the trunk, pulling out a small first-aid kit. “I always keep this on hand. Let’s treat your wounds first. We don’t want them getting infected.”As she spoke, she guided me to the car and had me sit down, carefully cleaning the wounds on my face. “They went way too far. I’ll have my top legal team get justice for you.”Shaun stood nearby, quietly watching her tend to my injuries without saying a word.Onl

I lay sprawled on the cold tile floor. My consciousness was already fading. Someone rushed over, crouched down, and carefully helped me up.“Lance, it’s me! It’s Shaun!”I forced my eyes open. Through my blurred vision, I saw his face. Even though he was dressed in an expensive custom suit, looking every bit elite, I could still recognize traces of the timid little boy from the orphanage who used to cling to me.“Shaun, it’s really you…”The janitor’s room door was pushed open again. My parents, Joanna, and Clive hurried in. They did not spare me a glance. Instead, they looked nervously at Shaun Collins.“Dr. Collins, we were in the middle of discussing the partnership. Why did you suddenly leave? This guy just has some issues with the company. We were questioning him. Don't let it spoil your mood…”Shaun ignored them completely. His eyes reddened as he looked at my injuries, carefully untying the ropes around me. “I knew it was you. Lance, I’d recognize your voice anywhere!”Se
