ログインXitllali
Guillermo's vow still hung in the air when a low, vibrating rumble cut through the quiet dawn outside.
Mateo appeared at the broken front entrance instantly, his hand slipping inside his jacket. He didn't speak, but one quick look toward the street told us everything we needed to know.
Severo’s patrol.
"Back," Guillermo commanded in a harsh, low whisper.
Before I could even process the movement, his hand grabbed my upper arm and pulled me away from the front of the shop toward the burnt back room.
Valdo and Mateo quietly moved into the shadows, raising their weapons silently as the sound of tires crunching over gravel and broken glass came from outside.
Mateo muttered a low curse under his breath, his grip tightening on his rifle. "We could take them right here, Boss," he muttered, his jaw tight. "Catch them in the open before they get out of the truck."
Guillermo didn't hesitate. "No," he replied, his voice a sharp, absolute law. "We won't turn a civilian street into a shooting ground."
Guillermo pushed open the old wooden door leading to my storage room. It had no windows and concrete walls. I used to keep extra fertilizer, ceramic vases, and rolls of ribbon in there.
As we stepped into the dark room, I felt the full weight of his presence. He was calm, alert and ready for anything.
His eyes met mine in the dim light. They were steady, cold, and focused. He pressed his back against the concrete wall, keeping me behind him to protect me. His right hand held his pistol firmly against his thigh as he quietly switched off the safety.
Outside, the heavy engine of a pickup truck rumbled to a stop right in front of the shop.
My heart pounded against my ribs, but as I looked at Guillermo standing beside me, tall, calm, and completely in control, my fear began to fade.
Heavy boots crunched over the broken glass on the sidewalk outside.
Someone walked right up to the broken front window. A rough voice muttered something in Spanish. The words were too muffled for me to understand, but the voice was close enough that I could feel its sound through the floor.
Guillermo didn't move a muscle. He gently placed his right hand on the back of my head and pulled me closer, resting my face against his neck. He held me against his shoulder so I wouldn't make a sound. His body was warm and steady against mine.
We stood frozen in the darkness, listening to the enemy just a few feet away.
The tension in the room was almost unbearable, but I didn't feel helpless. I could feel Guillermo's chest rising and falling as he breathed, and his steady presence helped me stay calm.
After a few tense minutes, the boots moved away from the window. The truck door slammed shut, the engine roared to life, and the vehicle slowly drove down the street until its sound faded into the thick mountain fog.
"They're gone, Boss," Valdo whispered.
Guillermo let out a slow breath against my hair. He pulled back just enough to look into my eyes, his thumb gently brushing my cheek as he checked that I was alright.
I let out a shaky breath. The fear slowly left me, replaced by a deep respect for the way he had protected me without losing control of the situation.
"Come on," Guillermo said, taking my hand in his right hand. His grip was warm and steady as I led him back out of the dark storage space and into the main room of my ruined shop.
"Let's secure this place and make our plan," he murmured, "before Hector arrives with the convoy."
XitllaliI stared at Guillermo in horror. He was clearly not okay; he leaned so heavily against the dirt wall that I wondered if it was the only thing keeping him on his feet."You can't do this," I whispered, my voice shaking.I stepped closer and reached for his arm with trembling hands."Guillermo, look at yourself. Those men will tear you apart."He didn't pull away from my touch, but his eyes remained cold. They were the eyes of El Crotalo. Hard, calculating, and without a trace of fear."I've walked through worse than this, Xitllali," he said. His voice was low and rough."Not while you're bleeding to death!" I cried, tears filling my eyes already. "Please. Please don't do this. Not for me."He reached out with his hand and grabbed the back of my neck. His fingers were warm, and his grip was firm but surprisingly gentle. He pulled me closer until I had no choice but to look into his eyes."I'm not doing this just for you," he murmured, his breath brushing against my cheek. "I'm
XitllaliMy stomach twisted into a tight, cold knot. The old woman who ran the fruit cart was Doña Carmen. She walked with a bad limp, and every Tuesday, she always brought an extra sweet orange and refused to take my money for it. She was one of the first people who had welcomed me into this neighborhood when I arrived as a stranger with nothing but a fake name and a broken heart. And now, she was kneeling in the cold street with a gun pointed at her head."I have to go up there," I whispered.I grabbed the thick edges of Guillermo's heavy coat and pushed it off my shoulders. I shifted my weight, trying to move out from under him so I could stand up and go to the ladder. Before I could even lift my knees, a large hand clamped around my wrist like an iron trap."No," Guillermo stated. It didn't sound like a request. It was a dark, absolute law.I looked down at him. His face was pale and covered in dried gray mud, but his grip on my arm was terrifyingly strong. His eyes were wide open
XitllaliI woke up to the sound of quiet, steady breathing. For a few seconds, I didn't open my eyes. My whole body ached as if I'd been beaten. My back was stiff, my neck hurt, and both my legs were numb from sitting on the cold floor all night.I slowly opened my eyes. The cellar was still dark, but a little gray light came through the cracks in the wooden door above us. Morning had come.I looked down at my lap. Guillermo was still asleep, but he looked different now. The painful frown on his face was gone, and his jaw was relaxed.I reached out with my hand and gently touched his cheek with the back of my fingers. His skin was cool. It was a little damp with sweat, but the terrible heat from the night before was gone. The thick clay packs I'd placed on his chest and neck had dried overnight, leaving cracked patches against his skin.He was safe. He was going to live.I let out a long, shaky breath. Then I leaned my head against the dirt wall and closed my eyes. It felt as if a hea
XitllaliHe didn't move. The bright beam from Valdo's flashlight hit his face. His head fell to the side, and his chin touched his chest."Boss," Valdo said, his voice filled with panic. He dropped to his knees beside us. His large hands reached for Guillermo's neck, and he pressed two fingers against it to check his pulse."Is he breathing? Is he okay?" I asked, my voice shaking so badly that I could barely speak. I picked up Guillermo's limp hand from the dirt and held it tightly. "Valdo, is he breathing?""He's breathing, Señora," he said, looking up at me.In the light of the flashlight, I could see the fear on Valdo's face."But he's burning up," he continued, his voice filled with worry. "His body is getting weaker. We need to cool him down right now.""We need a hospital!" I cried, tears filling my eyes."We can't," Valdo said firmly. "The boss is too weak to defend himself. If we carry him into the street and any of Severo's men see us, we won't be able to fight back."I stare
XitllaliI let go of Guillermo’s hand. My fingers felt strange without the warmth of his.Valdo and Mateo got to work immediately. They moved quietly through the broken room. Mateo went to the front entrance and moved large pieces of broken wall and an overturned table toward the shattered window to block the view from the street."The street is completely empty now, Boss," Valdo whispered as he returned to the main room. "But we can't stay on this floor. Once the sun comes up, anyone passing by will see our shadows through the broken glass."Guillermo stood near the burnt counter. He nodded slowly, but I noticed something was wrong. His movements were stiff. He leaned heavily against the burnt wood, holding his left arm tightly against his ribs. He was trying to hide his pain, but I could see how hard it was for him to breathe."There's a basement," I said quietly, looking at the three men.Guillermo turned his dark eyes toward me."Under the storage room," I explained, keeping my vo
