Chapter 6

Inside the car, Evelyn smiles and turns to the man beside her.

“Your family is really nice, they are definitely better than I thought.” She says looking at him

“Yes my family are good people, what did you think before?” He asks her

“Well, let us say I have watched a lot of drama and read a lot of novels, they are not usually nice.”

Michael just shakes his head and continues to work.

“You work too much, you should relax sometimes. I mean I don’t your company will go bankrupt because you are not around for a day. Is it?” Evelyn asks the man

“Do you think that if I had taken vacations or breaks, my company would have gotten to where it is. Taking a vacation without doing anything is just unproductive.” He says still buried in his work

“Well maybe that is the purpose of a vacation, Mr. Andrews. It is the only time you are allowed to be unproductive.” She says shaking her head, then she looks outside the window.

Michael hearing what she said stops what he was doing and just relaxes into the seat. The car ride continues in silence.

They finally get to their house, and as usual Evelyn wheels her husband into his room on his request.

She goes into her room, remembering her best friend, Kate. Picking up her up her phone she calls Kate.

“Hey Kate” She says in a light hearted tone

“What the heck. Why did you not call me for the past 2 days? I tried calling you but I don’t know why it was not going through. Is everything fine? I hope you are fine.” Kate says restlessly, worried about her father.

“Calm down, Kate. I am fine just got into a bit of situation.”

“Now what situation are you in? What about your sister and the wedding, I did not see any news about it. Hope it went well.” Kate asks.

“Well, that is kind of the situation I am currently in, I was the one that got married instead.”

“What? What do you mean by that? Don’t tell me you married that man. Please don’t tell me that.” Kate says hoping that it was not what she was thinking.

“Yes, it is exactly what you are thinking. My lovely sister ran away from her marriage so I had to marry him instead.” Evelyn says like she was not the one in the situation.

“Oh my goodness, I had a very bad feeling that day, why did you not call, I could have come to pick you up and hide you somewhere. Are you fine?” Kate asks worried

“Well, let us just say there was nothing I could have done. Yes I am fine.” Kate answers her worried friend.  

“So how is your husband? Is he as bad as they say? Is he very ugly and bad tempered?”

“Well, he is definitely better than they said. He is not foul tempered, And about his face value I am not sure about that yet, I have not seen him without the mask yet.”

“What do you mean that you have not seen his face yet, you live in the same house. Does he really use mask even in the house?” Kate asks dumbfounded

“He still wears the mask in the house, but he is not that bad. He is just a little bit cold.

“Did he really not say anything about his original bride being swapped with her elder sister.”

“He did not, he was interested in getting married to her either. He does not care about it.”

“That is nice but what of his family. Did they accept you or were they angry?”

“I just arrived from the main residence, they surprisingly did not care about it either. They said it was better that someone that superficial did not marry into their family.”

“Well that is surprising. I am happy that they accepted you, Evelyn. I hope you are happy.”

After talking for a while, they finally say their goodbyes and Evelyn hangs up.

After talking to her best friend, Evelyn mood became very better. After resting for a while she picks her phone to call Grey.

“Why are you calling me again, I told you not to disturb me. I know you are on a holiday but I am not.” Grey answers the call complaining loudly.

“I think because I have not been around, you have forgotten that I am your senior, do I need to remind you about it.” She says threatening him.

He clears his throat. “Umm… What do you need from me on this beautiful day.”

“ Well, have you been looking into my step mother’s movement like I asked you to?” She asks him.

“It is what you expected, she has been stashing out money into a bank in Amsterdam. It is a lot of money so I wonder how she must have brought it out without your father knowing.”

“That is most likely because she is not the one directly embezzling; someone that has the ability to secure those funds is likely in cohorts with her, it might be a director or anyone. So can you look into that as well?”

Grey just sighs at the more work added to his workload.

“By the way, Evelyn. Why did you want to get married into the Andrews family, even before it was announced that your sister was going to marry the man?”

“Maybe because I need some sort of backing and background. Being a daughter in law of the Andrews family makes it easy for me to get both. They also have a large share in my mother’s company and I need that as well.” Evelyn explains to him.

“Oh, I now understand you. But of Michael Andrews, I mean he is a very intelligent and shrewd man, he might notice what you want to do before you even start doing it.”

“I know right, I am also scared that he will find out. What do you suggest I do to avoid being found out? Evelyn looks at Grey winking at him

“Fine…… I will make sure to cover your tracks” Grey says reluctantly. “I always do all the work” He murmurs under his breath.

“Thank you very much Grey, That is why you are my favorite junior” Evelyn happily says to him

“Also, I suspect that my husband might be hiding a lot things. Like being lame for example, I don’t think he is really paralyzed. But I don’t know why he is doing that.”

“I am sure you are over thinking as usual Senior. I have a lot of work to do. Talk you later.”

“Ok, I will talk to you later.” Evelyn says and hangs up the call. She continues working on her laptop.

Meanwhile in Michael’s room, Daniel, his P.A is reporting the findings about Evelyn to him.

“There is actually nothing much to know that you don’t already know Sir. Yes, when she was 11 years old, she was sent to London to study, it was more like sending her away so she does not interfere in her mother’s company. According to our sources, she did not do anything but study over there until her father called her back so as to probably get her married for his profits. “

“Ok, what is she studying in university?”

“After coming back, her father stopped her from going to school for a while but she recently got admission to study business administration in C university. I honestly did not expect her father to allow her to study business administration as she will be able to take over her mother’s company at last.”

“I am very sure that her father does not want her to study business management, it makes me wonder whether he is really her father.” Daniel says

“If she is really his daughter, then he must be doing all this to make sure she does not take over the company. Did her mother leave any share for her?”

“She left 23% share to her daughter and 7% percent share to her husband. Tjat is what made her father the majority shareholder. But I don’t think she is aware of this. Are you going to inform her about it?”

“No I am not going to for now. The time will come for that. Is that all?”

“Yes sir, that is all.”

“You can leave then.” Daniel bows and leaves.

Michael looks at the woman’s profile. 

“Do you not know or you are just pretending not to.”
