LORENZO'S POV

Jordan and Mara collapsed at the exact same moment.

I caught Jordan before his head struck the floor, while Reef lunged across the room and caught Mara awkwardly around the shoulders. Killian was beside me almost immediately, dropping to his knees as I lowered Jordan carefully.

“Jordan?” Killian called as he touched his face. “Jordan, open your eyes.”

“He's breathing,” I said, pressing two fingers against Jordan's neck. “His heartbeat is steady.”

“So is Mara's,” Reef said from acr

KILLIAN'S POV“Don't move toward him,” Vale shouted as the pressure inside the room suddenly changed, but his warning barely reached me before my body reacted. The command did not sound like a voice in my head. There were no words spoken aloud and no stranger whispering through the convergence. It felt older than language, buried somewhere beneath instinct, and by the time I understood what was happening, I had already taken a step toward Jordan. I forced myself to stop and dug my heels into the floor, fighting the need to close the remaining distance between us.Across the room, my father had done the same thing. One of his feet remained slightly forward, and his hand was pressed against his chest as though he could physically hold his bloodline still. Reef gripped the strategy table so tightly that a crack spread beneath his fingers, while Mara remained on her knees with silver slowly swallowing the natural colour of her eyes.Jordan stood in the middle of all of us, breathing far t

LORENZO'S POV“Everyone out except Vale and Eli,” I ordered.“No,” Jordan replied.I closed my eyes for one second before looking at him. “Of course.”Jordan remained beside the oldest Anchor's bed and said, “He's been holding the original convergence pattern back alone. We are not abandoning him now.”“Have you forgotten the part where touching an unstable bloodline thread threw you into Mara's body earlier today?” I asked.“I remember it perfectly,” Jordan replied.“Then move away from the bed.”“No.”“Jordan,” Killian said, “I agree with my father.”Jordan turned toward him. “Wonderful. The two of you finally agree on something, and it has to be this.”The oldest Anchor opened his eyes weakly and complained, “Could all of you stop arguing? You are making dying considerably less peaceful.”“You are not dying,” Jordan told him.The old man's mouth twitched as he said, “You have developed an unfortunate habit of telling ancient wolves what they are allowed to do.”“He does it to every

JORDAN'S POV“What do you mean he may never have been imprisoned by the hardliners?” I asked.Gideon looked at me, but his silence only made the memories crowd my head faster. I remembered the underground chamber, the terrible loneliness I had felt the moment I reached the oldest Anchor and the suppression that had eaten through years of his life. I remembered the way his bloodline reacted to mine before any of us understood why. None of it had felt false.“Explain before Jordan decides releasing him was somehow his fault,” Killian said as he moved closer to me.“I wasn't going to do that,” I replied.“You were already doing it with your face,” Killian told me.Gideon rubbed a hand over his mouth before saying, “I don't know if the oldest Anchor is working with Silas now. I am saying the story of his imprisonment was never as simple as we believed.”Lorenzo frowned and asked, “How complicated can imprisonment be?”“Years before Jordan was born, the oldest Anchor entered the undergroun

JORDAN'S POV“How do we stop it?” I asked.Vale looked up from Mara's blood sample and replied, “The obvious solution is separation. Mara needs to leave the territory and travel far enough that your bloodline can no longer reach hers.”“Yes,” Killian said before Vale had even finished speaking.“I agree,” Mara added.“No,” I replied.Three people turned toward me at once, and Lorenzo sighed before asking, “Can you explain before this becomes another argument?”“Sending Mara away is exactly what Silas expects us to do,” I said. “He told us about the Mirror because he knew we would panic the moment we found her.”Mara folded her arms and replied, “I can protect myself.”“Killian thought the same thing before he woke up strapped to a chair,” I reminded her.Killian frowned and complained, “My kidnapping needs to stop becoming an example in every argument.”“It is an excellent example of bad decision-making,” Lorenzo told him.Killian looked at his father and asked, “Have you forgotten yo

MARA'S POVI laughed when Reef said my name. It was not because anything was funny. I simply could not think of a better reaction to being told that my body had apparently spent months preparing to replace Jordan after his death.Nobody laughed with me.Jordan remained seated at the strategy table with the healer report in front of him, Killian stood behind his chair, and Lorenzo kept looking between Vale and me as though one of us might suddenly admit this was another trick.“Check again,” I told Reef.“I already checked three times,” Reef replied. “The dates match Jordan's convergence events almost perfectly.”I looked at the report and asked, “Then explain why Silas sent me directly into the packhouse. I worked for the hardliners for months. If he knew I was the Mirror, why place me beside Jordan?”“He may not have known,” Vale answered. “Mirror bloodlines were hidden even from the old councils. Identifying one before activation was nearly impossible.”I turned toward him. “Did you

Jordan's POV My head was pressed against the pillow, my body somewhat relaxed, but my mind was far from relaxed.A feeling that couldn't be explained just engulfed me as I lay there. Jordan's POV The gap between us was almost closed, just a tiny space that even an insect wouldn't fit and just then, a sharp sound shot through the air and destroyed the moment, or maybe, saved me I guess. The door flung open and Sienna, the housekeeper was just a few seconds from flipping the cur

Jordan's POV Shame washed over me as I laid on the floor, unable to raise my head. The pain of being beaten and thrown in the mud and the humiliation from their mockery was nothing close to what I felt now.His presence was suffocating, or maybe, I had forgotten how to breathe. It wasn't just abou

Jordan's POV My eyes were reddened and slowly darkening as the loud growls were just few inches away from me mid air when I felt a tight grip pull me out of their way and the resounding echoes and vibrations as they thudded against the ground and sprayed me and the others mud and it shook my soul.
