Chapter Nine

Minutes later, he watched Raymond enter with Amber. They both had this confident aura surrounding them. Like they both celebrated a silent victory.

"Hello, brother" Raymond's gruff voice filled the room.

"Hi baby" Amber greeted too.

They both helped themselves to a seat.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?" He smirked at them. If only they knew that he'd won and they'd lost...

"The last I checked, you sent an omega to me, to make a bargain for your mate's safe return. You don't seem to be interested again. Do you want her dead?"

Raymond asked.

Alpha Calvin smiled to himself. So they didn't know? They didn't know that she'd escaped? Foolish set of people. They hadn't even mastered the art of kidnapping.

"I have no interest in engaging in a duel with you, Raymond. I intend to retain my alpha tittle, till I die" he said to them, in a firm voice.

"Darn it! " Raymond cursed loudly. "You were eager to see your mate before. What's suddenly changed?"

"You can keep whoever you have, there with you, I have my mate here" he smiled

"I swear I'll kill her once I leave this place. I'll kill Alexis" Raymond raged.

"Once we kill her, I'll become your rightful mate. That bitch can't separate us, Calvin" Amber finally spoke. He watched as she curved her lips, like she enjoyed a private joke.

Calvin laughed at their expense.

"Why bother throwing empty threats? Alexis is here with me" he said

"What?" Amber tittered  "that's a lie "

With a singular clap of his hands, the sentinel wolves led Alexis inside.

"Surprise, surprise" he giggled

His mate graced his sight with a beautiful stride of a cat. She made her way to him and sat on his lap, like she belonged there.

"Wha---what?" Amber asked as she paled. Truth be told, he'd never seen her face whiten to such extent.

"What's going on here? How did she....?" Raymond gasped

"Escape?" He retorted. "you guys are such terrible and careless kidnappers. Thankfully..." He stroked Alexis hair.  "She was smart enough to escape from under your nostrils"

Davina struggled to maintain her bravado as she sat on Calvin's lap. She remembered the words Dante told her as she got prepared to appear before Calvin and his brother. He said,

"I know you're not my sister, but I really need you to act. When you appear before Raymond and Amber, show no mercy. You mustn't say anything, but if you want to, say something that'll hurt. If possible, glare at them, sashay towards your alpha, act very smug, like you've won and they've lost"

She'd done a good job so far, she'd done the sashaying part, it remained the glaring part but it was a bit difficult to glare at both Raymond and Amber, especially Amber. Damn, she was gorgeous. Amber's looks made her question why Calvin, the alpha would go for Alexis. As she stared at Amber's pale face, she felt the need to make her eat her heart out in jealousy.

She turned to Calvin. She'd never made someone jealous before but there was always a first time for everything. Running a shaky index finger down Calvin's jaw line, she leaned in and made to kiss him. He angled his jaw towards her in a bid to kiss her but she pulled back immediately. She noticed the dark glint in his beautiful eyes as she leaned in again.

"How's this possible?" Amber's shrill voice disrupted their moment  "how---how are you here?"

"There must have been a loophole in your abduction process" Calvin smirked

Amber stared at her, disbelief written all over her face. It was her chance to glare and she didn't miss the opportunity. They both stared hard, trying to stare each other down.

"She had the goddess's blessings. Maybe that's why she managed to escape the shores of death. But she won't be lucky next time" said the furious Raymond.

Seriously, this guy looked scary. One swift look at him and anyone would know that he was a villain. He had a scar by the side of his face which began from his temple and ended under his left ear. She wondered what caused it.

"You wouldn't escape from my wrath, next time, Raymond" Calvin warned. "I know about your recent activities with the rogue wolves"

"What does that have to do with anything?" Raymond barked

"In case you forgot," Calvin continued.  "I'll let you know that there's no sort of army you'll build that wouldn't end up submitting to me"

She watched Raymond eyes narrow. He looked like he was suppressing alot inside.

"I wouldn't let you do anything to hurt my mate any longer. You'll have to pass through me and my pack before you get to her"

Davina stared at him. This was... this was overwhelming. She remembered what she said to Agnes, a couple of nights ago. Who would've known that her thoughtless words would lead her into the arms of a doting prince charming? No, a doting alpha? Her heart warmed up in pleasure from his words.

"I'll certainly pass through you, Calvin"  Raymond threatened

"If you hurt Alexis again, I wouldn't care if you're my brother, I'll put you to death"

That threat from Calvin sent instant shivers down her spine. He was capable of putting people to death? Including her?She couldn't help but worry. What would happen to her when he found out she wasn't Alexis?

"Death?" Raymond bawled, hampering her thoughts  "Do you think I'm afraid of your petty death threats? I vowed to fight to my death, until I became the alpha. Do you think I'll let you win,  Calvin? Our dad made a mistake when he made you the alpha because I deserve that position, I'm the first born and the rightful heir!"

"You were a disgrace!" Calvin bit out coldly.

Wow! Davina thought, family feud! Once again, she had to acknowledge the fact that her life was slowly turning into a movie and the more drama she indulged in, the more fascinated she got.

In the midst of the brotherly chaos, Amber's shrill voice broke out.

"When will you ditch this average looking girl, Calvin. I'm here for you and I won't stop until I ---"

"Fucking lunatic!" Davina swore, cutting Amber off

"What did you just call me?" A raging Amber asked her

"Um..." She began, fixing a sneer on her lips.  "You talked a lot of nonsense, so I just you were a fucking lunatic "

Amber gasped in fury.

"No foul language" Calvin said to her as he cupped her face.

"I think it's time you guys left. I hope not to see your faces again" he said to them. He clapped his hands and the sentinel wolves ushered an unwilling Raymond and Amber out.

"You haven't seen the last of me, Calvin" Raymond said as he was being dragged out.

They were alone again. Davina felt self conscious and a bit embarrassed at how she flirted shamelessly with Calvin. She tried to stand up from his lap but he held her still, on time, as if he read her mind.

"I--I have to--to go" she stammered shyly

"But I want you to stay, seated where you are"

"No, I--" she protested

"Please stay"

How could she resist the look he gave her?  She certainly was a hopeless pushover.
