“You let him go, ALONE?” Lilah screeches at me as she launches a glass of water in my direction. It hits the wall behind me, shattering into tiny pieces.

“It’s not Aiden you need to worry about.” I glance up the stairs to where the screams and cries were coming from. “It’s Linc, isn’t it?”

The scowl disappears from Lilah’s face and she sighs, slumping down onto the step.

“She knows something is wrong, worse than when she left him. She won’t listen to me and anything I do say, isn’t going in either. I don’t understand how she can feel that something is happening to him. I couldn’t when you were hurt, I helped Linc find you, but I didn’t know what was happening to you.”

“Because you hadn’t marked me, but now, you would know.”

I run the tip of my thumb over a piece of the broken glass, purposely piercing my skin. She frowns looking at her own hand.

“See? It’s not quite the same but you understand that I am injured, you just don’t know how.”
