Chapter 7

Rachel's POV

My heart is pounding in my ears. I take very slow and quiet breaths to try and calm myself. I close my eyes, but the bright blue eyes that have been haunting me since I woke up flashed forward again!

What the hell! This whole situation is like a nightmare, and I am alone.

I lean forward and try to peek around the door frame and into the main room. Luckily for me, the mud room is at the back of the house and completely opposite from the front door.

I can hear someone running upstairs. I stand up and decide to make my exit through the backdoor. I'm about to reach for the knob when I hear someone running downstairs. I freeze.

"Rachel!" Hissed a man. "Rachel! It's Clayton. Are you in here?"

"Clayton!" I called back.

Clayton Black is our Gamma. He is about 6'3" and very slim. The man is built for speed. He is known to be the fastest in the pack. He is even a monster on the battlefield. All his blows are quick and precise. He has trained with me quite a few times and has always been kind to me.

I dash from the mud room to him and ask what is happening and where my family is.

Clayton informs me that Rogues broke through the West side of our territory. They began attacking all the homes closer to where they made their entrance. He said at first the Alpha mind linked everyone to the training field, where they took orders to separate out and gain control. My father headed west with the Alpha. My stepmother and stepsister went to the pack house to help set up for the injured.

However, after about 30 minutes into the fight, my dad mind linked to Clayton and asked him to go to our home and check to see if I was awake. Several rogues were running loose, and all women and children needed to be escorted to the pack house.

"Your dad said you and Jessica had some sort of disagreement." He chuckled.

"Yeah, I clearly lost." I deadpan.

"I don't know, little wolf. Judging by the healing scars I saw on her face, you got a nice little shot in." He laughed lightly.

"Little wolf? Scars? What are you talking about..." I didn't get to finish before Clayton hushed me.

"Shhh!" Clayton whispered. He leaned into the wall, pulled the curtain back just a hair, and was looking outside the window.

I stopped talking and waited for orders. The moments ticked by. What was probably 3 minutes felt like an hour. Until Clayton finally spoke.

"Hey Rachel? Do you remember your breathing techniques I taught you when running?" He looked at me with uncomfortable worried expression.

"Yes, why?" I asked skeptically.

He looked at me for a long time. His expression grew more and more uneasy before he looked back out the window.

" Rachel, when I give the order. I'm going to need you to run like you have never ran before. Do not look back. You keep going until you reach the pack house. Do you hear me?" He walked towards me, bent down infront of me and laced up my other shoe.

"Can we go back together, please?" I begged.

"Rachel, I need...." He didn't get to finish when we heard a bone-chilling scream from a she wolf.
