BEEP BEEP….. That is the sound Elera wakes up to. Darkness covers her entire vision. It pressed her from all sides.

BEEP BEEP….. That is the sound Elera wakes up to. Darkness covers her entire vision. It pressed her from all sides.

The darkness Elara feels is just about the absence of light; it feels heavy, suffocating even. It felt as if it had weight, and it filled her entire body.

Her lungs, throat, and chest feel the weight. Her body reacts before her mind can. Elara gasps violently, hoping to breathe in air, but no air follows. She feels her chest being restrained, her ribs tightening painfully as she tries to gasp for air.

Elera tries to move her, but she only feels her fingers twitch weakly, as if they don't belong to her. Her limbs feel distant as she tries to move them again, but they are unresponsive, as if the body is not hers. Elara once again tries to breathe, but she only feels her throat burning.

Elera tries again, this time her body reacting on instinct, air rushed suddenly into her body. It hit her lungs too fast; it was too cold, also. The air feels very sharp. She tries to cough it up, but she can barely do that. The sound could barely escape her dry and broken lips. Her chest rose unevenly, and the air felt like a foreign substance that was not supposed to be there.

It hurts like hell, Elera feels all the hurt. Her body was trembling from the pain. She feels all the strains in her body. Her muscles are stiff and not still responsive. It is as if her body has been in a position for too long, so that even breathing has become something her body has forgotten about.

Elera’s eyelids flutter; they feel too heavy to open. She takes a lot of effort to force her eyes open. The light was something she didn’t prepare for; it came flooding into her eyes, and it was blinding. Elera flinched immediately.

She closes her eyes instinctively and opens them slowly, this time she tries to open her eyes gradually. The light was still too bright. She tries to adjust her eyes and focus on something. Her vision remains disoriented and distorted. Like she was looking at images from underneath water.

Elera hears a faint ringing, although it doesn’t sound like that,t the more she tries to adjust her hearing. The sound went from sounding like a ringing to a rhythm. It sounded like a beeping sound. Machine beeping.

Elera tries to adjust her eyesight. She shifts her gaze around the room, and he starts seeing shadows and then lines which become shapes. She sees machines, a lot of them. They are everywhere. These are machines she has never seen before. They look tall with glowing panels.

These machines are tall, and the panels are glowing. Elera sees wires, a lot of them, across her field of vision. They spread out, connected to different machines, and some connected to her.

Elera was confused. This doesn’t feel right at all. Nothing about what is happening feels right. Elera’s breathing hitched again. She tries to move her body. Even if it is just her fingers or even her hand. But none responded to her.

Elera begins to feel afraid about what is happening. A faint sound escapes her throat. Her heart begins to pound against her chest. Her heart is beating faster now. The beeping sound shifted. The rhythm becomes sharper and more urgent.

BEEP………… it kept echoing through the space around her. Elera feels so afraid because she doesn’t know what is going on. She looks around her, trying to search for something. One question keeps ringing in her mind.

“Where am I?” “The last thing I remembered was….” the thought slips from her again. She knows there was something, something she had to remember. Her chest tightens again, she struggles to breathe, and every breath she takes is another struggle for survival for her.

Elera hears another sound, it was footsteps, it was distant at first, but it kept getting closer. Then she heard the voices, it sounded muffled and urgent. Elera tries to calm herself down and stay still. Her body didn't even respond to that. She tries to latch on to the noise.

The voice keeps drawing closer to the room she is in. Elera noticed the voices sounded tense and panicked.

“It's impossible, how can she be awake now, it's been years….” The voices turn to images as they enter the room and move closer to her. She sees them, people dressed in white. They rushed towards the machine, and some ran to her.

One of the people who ran to check up on her moved close to her. The person didn't have relief, but fear in their eyes. To Elera, why are they afraid of her being awake? The thought has barely settled in her when another voice cuts through the chaos that is happening in the room. “ Her vitals are rising; we need to stabilize them now!”

The machines she was attached to responded immediately. Something cold brushes through her body. She feels another sensation on her neck. Elera flinches. Elera hears a voice of panic in the room.

“Subject E is waking up. There was silence in the room, and the beeping sounds of the machine grew louder.

Back at the facilityThe lights in Elera’s room grew dim. For a while, Elera was trying to process what happened to the light. The mechanical hub she was placed in suddenly changed its pitch. The sound is increasing every minute. “What is happening? Are they doing something to the machine?” Elera can’t help but panic. The doom covering the chamber she was placed in suddenly started to move. Elera began to panic as the dome covering her began to lift upward. “What…what is happening, where are the doctors?” The dome stopped moving. Elera’s face showed she was panicking. She tried to breathe in and out to stabilize herself. Elera felt cold air brush against her skin; she couldn’t help but shiver a little. For the first time since she woke up, she was conscious of seeing the chamber open widely. Several figures entered the room immediately the chamber dome opened. They moved with efficiency and were more organised this time around. Elera was amazed to see so many people in the room

It was raining heavily against the glass walls of the tower. Looking at the tower from outside, it looks so unreal. A building so tall it disappears into the clouds above the city. It was built to stand above the rest of the world. Inside the massive building on the topmost floor of the tower, silence ruled the conference room. No one has said a word yet. A long, dark brown table stretched across the conference room, surrounded by some of the most powerful people in the world. These are powerful men who change the destiny and fate of nations with just one word. Men whom even the government feared. Yet with all the power in the room, they all looked very uncomfortable. In the center of the conference room, a large screen was displaying images of Elera. The images were of Elera awake. The footage was playing over and over again. Every of her reactions since she woke up was played on the huge screen. In the large room, all eyes were still on the screen. One of the men tapped his fing

The silence in the room felt like a pretense. Elera could feel its heaviness. Elera lay still, looking at the pale glow of the ceiling lights above her. She sighed deeply; her breathing was shallow, but it was steady. Her eyes moved across the room again. The feeling of someone watching her didn’t go away. Instead, it gets stronger. “Someone is watching me, or they have been watching me for a long time.” The realisation of that didn’t settle well with her. Elera moved her hands against the surface so as to calm herself down. “If I start panicking now, it will only make things worse.” “I don’t know where I am, or who these people are…. And I definitely don’t know what they want from me.” Elera thinks to herself as her eyes continue to move across the room“One thing I know is I am not alone.” Elera’s gaze returned to the corners of the walls. Her eyes gazed at the tiny black lenses embedded in the walls. They looked so invisible that, if not for her keen senses, she would not h

There was silence in the room. The eerie kind of silence. Hidden above the sterile chambers of Elera’s room, blending perfectly well into the high ceiling corners, were black camera lenses that didn’t move. They were very unnoticeable. Someone was watching what was going on in Elera’s room from miles away. The building was different from the controlled environment Elera was in. There were large screens all over the walls of a dark room. Each screen displays different angles of the lab, but mainly Elera’s room. Every movement and event was shown in real time on the screens. The only thing that gave the room its character came from the images displayed on the screen. The air in the room feels cold, and a figure sat in front of the screens. The chair was at the center of the room, which gave the person a clear view of all the screens. One of the screens is focused solely on Elera’s face; all her movements are being monitored in this room. The observer leaned closer to the monitor

After a while, the voices faded away. Elera could no longer hear their arguments anymore, as if they had moved further away. The distance between them grew. There was silence in the room again. The only sound in the room was the steady hum of machines and the sound of her heartbeat. Elera lay still on the bed, waiting, listening, and waiting. “I can’t hear sounds again, everywhere is so silent, the only thing keeping me entertained is the sound of these machines”. “I’m finally alone, but I don't feel relieved about this,” Elera can’t help but think to herself. Elera felt colder in the room. Her breathing was slower and more controlled. She can still feel the tension in her body.”“Why do I feel I have been taken apart and put together again… I really need to find out what happened to me.” Elera moved her fingers again; her movement has improved, though the progress was slow, but at least she feels more in control of herself and her body a little.Elera tries to focus again, to p

The numbers displayed on the screen remain the same. Elera was still trying to wrap her head around what she was seeing. She stared at the screen till her eyes became blurry. “TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, How did this happen?” The words kept echoing in her head. Elera was having difficulty processing the information. It was too heavy for her to process. Her emotions were everywhere. She can feel the calmness inside her fading as her panic rose. She can’t just understand what is happening. “I have to calm myself down. This has to be wrong”. She tried to calm herself so she could process what was happening. The room felt cold all of a sudden. The white sterile walls no longer felt calm. Even the sound of the machine felt deeply disturbing. Elera tries to focus on moving her body. Her fingers twitched this time. “ Wow, this is better than before.” “ Although the movement is small, let me focus on something I can control for now.” The movement wasn’t much, but Elera felt it was something.
