First day at work

Chaire's POV

I walk into Winters Industries, and I do not know where to go. Damon Winters only told me to be here, and that is what I did. I come here and I ask if I can see him. The girl at reception looks me up and down as if I am something that the cat dragged in. Of course, she knows who I am, and everybody is talking about me and how much Sienna hates me and that she took my husband. Perhaps this woman at reception thinks that I am here to ask her uncle to intervene in our situation, but that is not why I'm here. I'm here because he hired me as the lawyer of this company.

"Who do you think you are to come in here and ask to see the boss? He is a very busy man. He does not have time for someone like you. Everybody knows that his niece does not like you," she says. I know everybody thinks they can talk to me just like they want to, but I am getting really tired of people bullying me just because Sienna has seen me as a target. I wish people will stop being so rude to me. I see her name tag is Beverly and I know that she will not like me at all if I work here. I know I'm going to have a hard time if I work here. Maybe I should just go home. Maybe I should find a way to go to the city and never come back to this one-horse town.

"I called her here and I appointed her as the lawyer of this firm. We have a lot of lawsuits against us these days because people think they can do with my company whatever they want to because we are the only company in this town. And who are you, Beverly, to talk to anybody that I appointed the way you did?" Damon's voice comes from behind me. I have not seen him come in and it gives me a fright. I don't even know how to look him in the eyes. I know it is very difficult for me to forget that night that we have spent together and I cannot help but even think about his naked body. He is perfect. His body is like a sculpture. It's like the gods sculpted him themselves.

"Mr Winters, I'm really sorry. I didn't know that you have appointed her. I thought she was here to come and bother you. I did not mean to be rude," Beverly says. However, I know I just made my first enemy in this company and I know that it is not going to be easy for me to work here because everybody is going to judge me because of Sienna.

"Mrs Green, you can walk through to my office so that we can talk about your salary and the other things that we did not have time to talk about. I also want to sign the employment contract with you. I am not going to go through HR. You are working directly under me. Nobody can fire you but me," Damon says. I was about to tell him that I think it was the biggest mistake for me to come and work here, but he is talking with so much authority that I am not going to question him. I would rather face a dragon than face him.

I follow him to his office and I can feel Beverly glaring at me. I know she's going to get on her phone right now and she is going to call Sienna. She is not going to make my life easy and I know Sienna is going to make a scene and I most probably won't get this job. Damon lets me sit in front of him and we are busy discussing the terms of my contract. I have to work for him for at least five years. I do not know why he is putting that into the clause, but at this moment I'm really desperate because I don't even have a place to stay. I don't know where I'm going to stay in three days' time.

"Thank you so much. If you can just point me to my office, I will be happy and I will start working immediately. You can just give me all the files you want me to work on," I say. I know most of the people that have been fired go to Mike to help them against Winters Industries, they are the only lawyers in town and they make a lot of money. However, I am not there to take their cases anymore and I know exactly how Mike is. I know exactly how he will argue in court. He will use my old cases against me, but I also know how to counter him. I don't feel sorry for most of the people that have been fired because they really had to do something awful. Everybody knows that Damon does not like to fire people, but he always pays the settlement just to keep it out of court. And this time I'm not going to allow it. I am going to take on those people who think that they can take advantage of Winters Enterprises. There is also a company that came to Mike who wants to sue Winters Enterprises. They are claiming that Winters Enterprises is responsible for a lot of pollution in the river, but I know it is not true. Because I got the evidence when Mike took on the case, I know that Winters Enterprises are very up to date with all the newest techniques to keep the rivers clean and not to pollute anything around their factories.

I have warned Mike not to take on the case, but he told me that he is sure that Damon will settle out of court again like Damon always does, but I am going to ensure that Damon does not settle out of court. Damon does not need to settle out of court. Damon always used a company from the city to settle all his lawsuits. I am not going to allow that to happen anymore. I am here to help Damon and I will. Just as I'm about to get up, the door opens and Sienna storms in.
