Run Away Runner

"I am made out of memories"

Her King's Point Of  View

3rd POV

He couldn't concentrate on his work. Her angelic face kept popping up in his head every two seconds. His beast was restless and wouldn't stop whining.

He knew what he had to do in order for that to stop, but he refused to. He wouldn't cave so easily to the mate bond.

The fact that she felt so good tugged away in his arms couldn't be denied either. He couldn't deny the fact that he wanted her there again. She was in the other side of the castle and yet her scent still faintly surrounded him.

Calix felt as if he was on the verge of insanity. He stopped going through some papers for a second, recalling the reason why he couldn't go back to her and make her his.

Then, he remembered. She shouldn’t be the reason he’d recall the past he had so desperately been trying to forget. She’d be like a ticking bomb, ready to explode the second he tells her anything or any of his enemies see her with him. He had far more important things to focus on, too. It was the quiet ones that did the most harm and he did not plan to proof if his theory was right or not. His mom was proof enough, and even if his new mate wasn’t like that, she’d be just another weakness for him.

The problem wasn't just that, but he also had people wanting to kill him. Wanting to steal the crown away from him. In all honesty, he wasn't worried about that. That was, of course, before she came along.

He was only searching for someone to bear him an heir before he found her. He wasn't going to get feelings involved. He couldn't care less about what could happen to his companion, but she wasn't just a companion. She was his mate.

If anything happened to her, he'd be in serious trouble. He wasn't gonna lie, he felt protective over her, but he couldn't accept her as his mate.

It did hurt him when she started crying because of him, but he wasn't gonna let his feelings get in the way. He didn't need her.

Love was dangerous. He has learned that, maybe not first hand, but he has. His father was a foolish man. He fell for the enemy: his mate. That got him nowhere, but six feet underground.

Calix's mother was a dangerous woman. She was someone you wouldn't like to be reckoned with. She was too powerful for her own good. Everyone thought she was a little angel when she met her mate, but no one knew how wrong they were. Maybe even his own mother thought she, herself, could be good enough and fake it until she made it. The truth is that the darkness is something you can’t quite get rid of by just faking it the light.

After having Calix, she lost it. Her mind wasn't in the right place and her inner self had taken over, destroying everything standing in her way. His father tried to help the vicious woman, but that got him to death. Calix was just a child who had to suffer under his "mother's" care.

She would physically and mentally abuse him to be more like her. She would always remind him how love was another weakness. How it would end up hurting him.

Lots of nights would be spent on him shedding painful, sour tears. He wanted to end it all, but she never let him. He was a prisoner of his mother's power and malice.

A knock interrupter the dark train of thoughts Calix was having. His face shot up to where the source came from.

Leaning against the door frame, his brother was watching him with narrowed eyes. Of course, they weren't siblings by blood, but their bond was strong enough.

"What do you want, Beta?" The king asked, rather harshly, more than he intended. The Beta smirked and strolled in.

"Why are you always in a bad mood, lately? I thought you told me you found your mate?" He questioned once he was close enough.

Calix glared at his Beta before continuing with his work. "Remember who you're talking to, Maddox" he growled quietly.

Jonathan rolled his eyes at his moody behavior. "Anyways. I just came to inform you that the group of rogues that were spotted at the southern borders moved north this morning"

A few days ago, a group of about thirty rogues were spotted along their pack's border. That was in the southern side, but a day ago they started moving north for some reason.

"Send people to tell them that if they don't leave before nightfall tomorrow, we'll kill them" Calix grunted his response.

Jonathan nodded, but made no move to leave, for he already mind linked the head warrior who also happened to be his mate.

"Why are you not with your mate?" The question came out of  nowhere. It startled Calix, but he showed no sign of it.

He looked up again with an unreadable look. "Why ask?", he retorted with another question. Jonathan sighed exasperatedly.

"I ask because you're cooped up in your office, doing paper work that can be done later instead of being with your mate" he waved his hands around to emphasize his point.

Calix ignores him again and went back to work. It was true that Jonathan Maddox was his best friend, brother, and Beta, but he didn't need this right now.

"You can leave now, Jonathan" ,was all he said. Jonathan gave him a disappointed look before turning around and leaving.

Calix forced himself to forget what just happened and tried to focus on his work. He gave up.

He let out a frustrated huff and stood up abruptly. He needed his wolf to calm down and his tensed muscles to relax.

The only way that could happen was by going to his mate. He hated how the mate bond was slowly but surely making him succumb. Maybe not even slowly, but quickly. He detested it.

Calix stomped out of the office and started his long walk to the other side of the castle. Where his mate was.

On the way there, his frantic cousin bumped into him. She would've fallen too if it weren't for his quick reflexes.

"Calix! Oh my, I...Rosalya-...she..." Lilo stopped to catch her breath. This made Calix more agitated.

"Spit it out, Lilo! What happened?" He snapped. Lilo's panicked eyes met his and that's when he knew it wasn't good. Not at all.

"Your mate, she's gone. I only left her for like a few minutes while I attended some pack members, but when I went back to her room she wasn't there!"

His  heart dropped. His mate was missing. A thunderous growl left him from deep in within.

This time, he was determined to find his mate. He was mad at her actions, but he had to admit that he was also worried. Then a thought made him smirk.

She can run, but she can't hide.
