The Waking

"The rose was dying,

but the beast did everything to save it"

His Flower's Point Of View

He wasn't there. I woke up and the King was nowhere in sight. Was it something relieving or saddening? I rolled my eyes at the question. Of course it was a relieve. It had been about half an hour after I woke up pained and disoriented. My pained cries were what alerted the nurses of my waking.

The events then came rushing in minutes later, leaving me in pure horror. I tried to stand up and start searching for my sister, but my doctor wouldn't allow it. Apparently, I was in no shape to be looking around for my sister. It was honestly stupid of me to try to move while knowing full well that I almost got eaten.

They told me she was recovering, but otherwise she was completely fine. Lana was a tough cookie to crack. I mean that both mentally and physically. She has always recovered fairly quickly, even since we were kids. It was something I envied her for, but was also glad about.

I was also curious for where the King was. I felt a small hint of disappointment when they told me that he hadn't come to my room in a week, although It did surprise me how he use to come regularly at the beginning. I shook away those thoughts because thinking about them brought me no benefits.

Lilo, on the other hand, has been almost treating me like her child even though she was only a few years older than me. It was amusing. I also appreciate the effort she put into decorating the hospital room I was staying at. I liked the twinkly lights that hung in the wall above the bed. I have never ever seen these, much less owned them.

They were called fairy lights, according to Lilo, and there was no way you could feel magical without them. Her words, not mine. Sometimes I wonder if she’s actually half fairy.

I smiled and waved a little when her head popped out from behind the door. She then fully opened it and stepped in with a grin. She is a kind and beautiful soul. I really have no idea how she could be related  to such a cruel man like the King.

"Rosie! So, I know you already had breakfast and you're probably not that hungry....but I kinda may have brought some dessert... are you up for it?", she rambled excitedly and eagerly waited for my reply. Her constant rambles about sweets and pastries are good enough reason to believe she has a sweet tooth.

My tummy was full and I don't think anything else could fit, but I didn't want to say no to her. And, what's the worse that could happen?

———————

An upset stomach was probably the worse that could happen. After the lava cake was given to us, Lilo dug into the soft looking piece of cake and I decided to give it a try.

It was like a million explosions of sweetness went on inside my mouth when I tasted the chocolaty goodness. A small moan of delight escaped my parted lips, instantly making me blush. Lilo stopped mid bite before bursting out laughing.

My hands covered my face as I internally scolded myself. Earth, please, swallow me now.

"Well, that was uncalled for, but I'm glad you liked my dessert so much", I heard a new voice pipe in. It made me jump slightly, for I wasn't expecting to hear someone else. It only worsened my embarrassment.

In walked a slim, tall girl. She had an apron on over her simple red shirt and skinny jeans. Her brown eyes held a pleased look as her lips were curled into a smirk.

She walked towards Lilo first and gave her a hug. "Hi Lilo. My mother told me you picked up the dessert I made from the kitchen and I wanted to see what you were up to", the girl commented with a short laugh. She looked to be in her mid twenties, maybe younger.

She then focused on me again. Her eyes seemed to lighten up a little as she waved at me almost shyly. "Hello, I'm Colleen" her lips were curled into a soft, welcoming smile.

I offered a small smile in return before muttering a soft "Hello"

Lilo looked at me expectantly, waiting for me to say my name, but then sighed when she realized I wasn't going to.

"Colleen, this is Rosalya, but she also goes by Rosie. She's Calix’s human mate!", Lilo said like if she were a proud mom. Oh my gosh, this girl. Colleen gasped, clamping her hands to her mouth with widened eyes. I shrunk into the bed a little as I wasn't really liking her reaction.

"Oh my gosh! The King has found his mate! This is so exciting!" Colleen started jumping in her spot while squealing, only for Lilo to randomly join her.

I stared at the two in bewilderment. They celebrated while I sat here, thinking on how I really didn’t want to be mates with a werewolf, much less the King. I don’t like him, but I really wouldn’t want to leave Lilo, and Colleen also seems like a very good girl.

A throat cleared, making both girls stop their squeals  and jumps. Our eyes focused on the familiar King standing in the doorway with a raced eyebrow and an unimpressed look.

He looked tired and slightly stressed, though he was hiding it very well, I could tell. The way his shoulders were tensed in a painful way as if he hadn't rested in a long time and the slightly dark bags that were forming under his beautiful grey eyes helped me come to conclusions. His stubble was also slightly growing. He didn't look bad at all, but it was obvious he hadn't been taking care of himself properly.

My eyebrows furrowed thinking on what could have him so stressed.

His eyes trailed to me and they merely softened, confusing me. Why was he suddenly acting like this? Last I checked, he was practically rejecting me before I ran away with my sister.

I once again found myself in the same train if thought regarding Lana’s well-being and was too focused to notice the approaching form that stood directly in front of me.

My eyes fearfully looked up to meet a pair of grey ones that seemed as though they were looking deep into my soul.

"I have to talk to you, little flower", he spoke in his low, husky voice. He was too close. I could feel his minty breath fanning my face. I leaned away in order to feel less intimidated by the closeness.

A surprised squeal escaped my mouth when a pair of arms wrapped around my waist. At first, I thought he was gonna carry me bridal style, but instead I was swung over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

A freaking sack of potatoes.

"Hey!" I wiggled around a little, but then realized I was no match for his strength. I didn't want to anger or frustrate him more either. He was already scary as it is.

I noticed that the room we had entered was the same room I had woken up in the day I ran away with my sister. It was his room.

With small effort he dropped me on the bed, making me bounce slightly on the mattress. It left me dizzy for a second.

"Why did you bring me here, Calix?" ,I whispered timidly.

A mischievous glint took over his expression, sending shivers down my spine. "Change of plans, little flower" I frowned at the nickname again. Wasn't that suppose to be for affection? But he hated me. He’s so... confusing. Also, what did he mean?

"I'm not letting you out of my sight, little one" he finished before his lips twitched up in an amused, tiny smile at the sight of my horrified expression.  His words kept repeating themselves again and again like a broken record.

Change of plans, little flower. I'm not letting you out of my sight.
