Rena's Heartache and Memories

Rena: Five years prior                                                                                                                   Rena hummed happily as she walked through the corridors of the castle, reading from one of her favourite books.

Fall was near, she could feel it on the air; the days were growing shorter with a slight chill hitting the air every day.

Rena kept humming, thinking of Blaine and how happy he made her.  Everyone had someone, she thought; all except for Vera.

Val had Thane, Valena and Sandrine would be married soonl and Rena had Blaine.  Rena only wished she could find someone for her oldest sister Vera.

Even though Blaine and Thanerick were humans, Rena reflected; the whole of her kingdom in the Southern Realm had accepted the two men.  Rena, lost in thought; found her feet had taken her to her beloved gardens.  The wind slowly blew a few of the leaves off of a nearby tree and they floated down into the pond.

Rena sat on the bench near the pond, giggling at the ducklings that were playing in the pond.

Blaine had been searching for Rena when the maids informed him that she had wandered out into the gardens.  He sighed, the gardens were her favourite place, he hated that was where he would have to break her.

He followed the laughter and felt his heart pull; how how could he possibly do this?  Rena was his all, his everything.  Blaine stood, a quiet conflict waging within him.

Was Thanerick having as much trouble as he?  Blaine knew it would be difficult; she wouldn't simply believe he would be breaking off their relationship.  Blaine would have to completely break her entire being.

The laughter  continued as quaking joined it, Blaine walked over to the pond to find Rena now sitting on the grass; playing with the ducklings.  Rena sensed a presence and looked up at Blaine, her violet eyes shining with mirth.

"Blaine!  What a surprise!  What brings you for a visit?"  She asked as she stood up gracefully to walk toward him.  Rena really hadn't been expecting for him to visit; but moving to him her joy turned to worry as she noticed how nervous he seemed to be.

"Rena, could we perhaps talk?  Perhaps somewhere more private?"  Blaine asked tentatively, Rena looked confused now as her surprise was replaced with how strange Blaine began to act.

"Blaine, what's wrong?"  She asked, worry etched in her voice as she moved to him quickly to examine him.  As Blaine was one of the few humans who were taller than she was; it was a welcome respite when she had to reach up to his face.

She reached up and placed a hand gently on his face and smiled as he leaned into her touch.  Blaine sighed at her gentle touch, he felt horribly conflicted.  The Seven knew how much he loved her.

Blaine surprised them both by pulling Rena into a passionate embrace, taking her lips with his own.  Rena was caught off guard, but didn't try and fight him.  Blaine had never tried kissing her during their whole courtship; he stayed completely respectful.  Only kissing her on the forehead and leaving chaste kisses on her hands.  Always being first and foremost, a chivalrous suitor.

Rena melted into him, her hands moving up his arms and gripping his shoulders.  A soft moan escaped her mouth when Blaine's tongue glided along her lips.

"Rena..."  Blaine whispered against her mouth; Rena was thrown off guard by his actions.  Blaine had become a completely different person.

Blaine knew he had made a mistake, tasting her was nothing more than a wrong move down a suicide decision.  He didn't want to stop at simply kissing her, he needed all of Rena.  A frantic energy had suddenly taken over him.

Blaine reluctantly moved from her full lips and began grazing her jawline and trailing kisses down the line of her neck.  Rena's breaths were coming in short pants, it felt as though electricity had begun coarsing through her veins with every touch and kiss.

"Blaine."  She gasped, as he nibbled on her collarbone.  Her dress was light for the season, but it left her shoulders and collarbone exposed.  They were still standing in the gardens and anyone could happen upon them in the throes of passion unknowingly.

As Blaine kept nibbling along her collarbone and neck, his breeches slowly began to get tighter as he became harder and harder underneath them.

"Rena love, take me to your bed; please."  Blaine begged; a husky, throaty whisper kissing her skin.  If he were going to go to hell for breaking her heart; he would at least get them a night together first.

But when the 'morrow came, he also knew he would have to break his love completely and shatter her whole being.

Rena didn't understand where Blaine's buried passion had come from.  She worried something bigger and possibly darker was somehow behind it.  Blaine nipped at the nape of Rena's neck once more; his grip on her waist tightening.

He felt if he were to let go of her at just that moment, that she would dissappear forever.  Rena felt his grip tighten and felt a shudder run through his body.

"Blaine?"  She whispered, pulling his head up and away to look up at his face; a look of torment evident in his eyes.

Blaine wanted so much in that small amount of time.  He wanted to let go of all of his birthrights and titles, to spirit her away up to her bed chambers and to stay as hermits would; only in her chambers.  And love her throughly for days on end.  Would it be so difficult to do all of that?  But what would result of those decisions?  how would Dorian take that news, that his little brother had taken an Elf for a wife and renounced the throne?

No, Blaine sighed; he knew he would have to break things off.  And he would have to break things off sooner rather than later.  And to dream of any other way that he could have his way was pure childish wishing.

"Blaine, if you are wanting us to have privacy, we'll need to move now to my private chambers."  Rena said softly with a small amount of amusement in her voice.

Blaine sighed and quickly released her.  Rena looked up at him, confusion paramount on her face at the sudden change in his demeanor.

Blaine placed space between them, and as twilight began to creep in; began the hard process of breaking Rena's heart.

"It's true I would love that, but even I know that I would be treating you no better than a common brothel worker.  Only, you've never been with a man.  So really, dealing with a first time virgin would be far worse."  Blaine stated, his tone growing colder with each word.

Rena's cheeks burned with embarrassment, why did he suddenly car that she'd never been to bed with another?  Why did it matter that she was still a virgin?

"Blaine, what's gotten into you?  You're the one who sought me out and began to act foolishly."  Rena spat out, trying to quell the quaking in her voice.  Her sweet, kind prince had been replaced by a cold, cruel bastard.

"I sought you out, for the lust itching at me.  But after witnessing you playing with the ducks in the pond like a child...I've highly regretted that decision."  Blaine said coldly, his coldness and rude behavior gave the effects he knew he needed.

Rena's face no longer held its angelic beauty, but was now left with a contorted sadness mixed with stark confusion.

"I have no idea what's gotten into you, but if all you plan to do is insult and mock me; then you can simply leave."  Rena said sternly as she tried to move around him.

Blaine stopped her from leaving, he had to make certain that she believed he held no more feelings of love for her.

"I'm not mocking Rena, you act childish!  Which is rich for how old you really are.  This is why humans and elf-kind were never meant to be good for each other."  Blaine said, while on the inside he screamed in agony.

"What are you saying Blaine?  What was the point of courting me?!  Was this all nothing more than a game?!"  Rena nearly shouted as tears began to fall down her cheeks.

"Humans and elf-kind were never meant to be together Rena.  We're far too different, the courting was a game yes; and I've grown bored with it.  Clearly the result of bedding you is too much effort."  Blaine stated coldly, even as his own heart shattered.

He turned from her without sparing her another glance;

"You won't see me again, Rena.  Farewell."

Blaine left Rena in the gardens as twilight fully descended in the sky.  Rena felt her soul shatter into pieces as she fell in a heap onto the ground; sobs racking her body.  Her heart breaking, as leaves fell around her in streams of gold, red and orange.
