The water was shut off—and I knew exactly why. "I'm sorry. I wish there was more I could do for you." Karen, the brown-haired receptionist, said. "There has to be a mistake. I sent my dad to pay the bill. I am never late on bills. You know this, Karen." I responded hurriedly, not understanding how the water had been shut off for the month. "I know, honey. I'm very sorry. Your dad said he was going to bring it by?" She asked. "Yes. So much for assuming he could accomplish this one thing for me." I laughed, despite there being zero comedy behind it. I handed Karen the money I had left from this week's payday. Hopefully, this will be enough to have the water turned back on for the month. "You will get through all of this, I promise," she assures me. I offer her a forced grin and depart fast. Despite the strong connection that Karen and I have, she lacks a thorough knowledge of what truly goes on in my regular life. She will only see what I allow her to see. She sees me in here quite often, because I'm the only one who is responsible enough to pay the bills. This is the same thing over and over again. I'm weary of this. I'm weary of supporting my family merely because my dad can't hold a job. Ever since Mom went away, I have been responsible for caring for the entire family. I love my family. I adore my sister, and I treat her like she is my kid. Half of the time, it feels like she is. I simply want to feel like a regular 20-year-old too. I phone my father's number and eagerly wait for him to respond. "Hello?" he asked. "Dad, I just got back from the city, and Karen tells me that you never went in to pay the water bill?" I do my best to be cool, but it isn't working. "Oh yeah, I'm very sorry about that, Anna. I'll pay you back for it." He mumbles. "Where the fuck did the money go, Dad? That was $120," I shouted. Tears begin to collect in my eyes, and I have to struggle to prevent them from flowing out. "I took it to the casino," he admits. Of course. And the Dad Of The Year honor goes to... "What the hell is your issue, Dad? Our water got switched off. You can't keep spending the money I give you for bills and just take it to the casino! Does this house signify nothing to you? Are you fucking kidding me?" I shout at him. I tried maintaining cool, but all of my self-control went down the toilet. I wish my life was normal. I wish I had the typical life of a twenty-year-old. But, no. I have to slave away and work my ass off to maintain my family while my dad takes all of my hard-earned money to the casino and tosses it away. I feel hot tears stream down my cheeks and hurriedly attempt to brush them away. The walk to my job is near downtown, and it only takes around five minutes to get there. Thank God. Crying absolutely will only make me seem worse if it starts to rain and I have to go to work with wet hair and wet clothes. When I come inside the modest cafe, I see Sara smiling brightly at me, but her countenance instantly crumbles when she sees my bloodshot eyes. "Oh my god, are you okay?" She asks with anxiety on her face. I attempt to hold it together, but it is practically impossible as I stand in front of my closest buddy. She promptly pulls me in for a hug. "What happened? Who do I have to kill?" She asks. Mother Sara doesn't play. I chuckle softly at her reply, "My dad is just so aggravating. He grabbed the money for our water bill and squandered it all in the casino. So I just had to pay another$120,and now I'm not going to have enough money for my textbooks. I simply don't see why he needs to go and do this type of thing all the time,"" I cry. "Hey, don't weep. I know, he truly sucks right now. It will be okay, though. I promise. I suppose my brother might have the identical textbook you are seeking that you can just have. Don't worry, okay? Everything will be OK. I promise." She assures me. It sounds so easy when she says it. I wish it were as easy as just 'notworrying.' God, I want to. I had to make myself appear decent before my shift started, and thank God Sara brought some makeup with her to disguise the black bags around my eyes.Anna POVI reach back and palm him through his boxers. Slipping my hand down the fabric, I grab his length and begin to pump him slowly."Fuck, I'm going to come if you continue to do that." He shudders. "Do you have a condom?" I ask, still sucking on the skin of his neck. I'm going to leave a mark, I'm sure. I want everyone to see it. I want Haley to fucking see it. I want everyone to see the mark I'm leaving and know that he is mine. No one else can have him. He freezes under me. "Fuck...no." He says, pulling away to look at me. "I think I might have one in my purse," I admit, reaching over onto the side table and searching through the bag. I can feel him holding his breath as I search, not wanting to disappoint him and myself by not finding one. I feel the cool foil against my fingertips and quickly pull it out and toss my purse onto the floor. "Found one," I say, holding it up with a smirk. "Should I even ask why you have a condom in your purse?" he chuckles. "For moments l
Anna POV"I'm going to get my phone back eventually, and I will see these pictures!" I yell, shrieking when he reaches over with his other hand and tries to tickle me to stop me from reaching for my phone. "Stop!" I scream with a laugh. "Nope! Not until you tell me that you won't try and find my high school pictures!" He laughs, moving us so that he is hovering over us and continuing his tickling assault."I just want to see them!" I laugh."I am going to continue to tickle you, then!" He laughs in reply, tickling me even harder.I try to wiggle away from him and end up pulling the both of us off of the couch and onto the floor, his body now on top of mine, and my phone is thrown across the room."Did you just throw my phone across the room?" I exclaimed, amused by the shock covering my face."Yes." He laughs, not moving from his spot."Was it that big of a deal?" I giggle."Again, yes. Absolutely." We stay in our spot for a few seconds, just looking at each other. He's so...perfect
Anna POV"Nope!" she says, jumping out of her seat and running towards the door."Be careful! I love you!" "I love you too! Bye, Eth!" She waves as she leaves the house. I go to the front door and watch her happily run over to Natasha's van. Despite the joy I feel knowing that she has friends and that our dad's death isn't affecting her too negatively, I can't help but feel sad knowing that she's growing up. She is going to do this more often as she gets older, and I'm going to be alone in this house more. It's inevitable. "It's good that she is making friends. I'm really glad that she's dancing, too. That seems like something that she will be good at," Eth says to me as I walk back into the kitchen. "Yeah, I am too," I mumble, sitting down and taking another bite of my pizza. "Do you want something to drink? I'm thirsty," I say, getting up once again and walking to our refrigerator. "Umm, yeah. I could go for a drink. What do you have?" He asks."Let's see. It looks like we have a
Anna POV"Pizza is fine with me if that's what you want, love," Eth tells her, earning a big smile from Phoebe. We walk to my car in silence for the most part as I mentally prepare myself for what will be the most awkward lunch date in history. "Can we get pepperoni pizza?" Phoebe whispers to me."No. Eth is a vegetarian, remember? Which means, what?" I ask her, trying to remind her once again that he does not eat meat."He doesn't like animals," Phoebe says simply.Eth chuckles at her reply, and I do the same. Phoebe has a way of making things a little less awkward. Thank God.“I love animals. That's why I don't eat them." He laughs, winking at me. I blush at his gesture, even though there was absolutely no romantic gesture behind it."I love animals, too. I want cheese pizza." Phoebe says simply."Baby, just because you eat meat doesn't mean you hate animals. We can get pepperoni pizza. I'll even try a slice." He tells her, knowing that Phoebe doesn't like plain cheese pizza."You
Ethan POV My Dad could be rude and yell, but he never actually laid a hand on me. It got worse as I got older. We would fight over grades or housework, and he would punch me when I got into my teens. I remember he made me go to some stupid private school when I was thirteen or something. He got pi
Ethan's POVEthan's face looked so distressed as he tried explaining the story."I guess it all started on my sixth birthday." He stated. He shook his head and closed his eyes. I could tell that he didn't want to talk about this at all. Maybe I am pushing him too far?"Eth, you don't have to tell m
Anna POV"Do you like it?" Ethan asked her with a smile, holding onto her little body."I love it!" She squealed out."I'm glad. Now go inside and play while Anna and I get settled into our room. We will be right down the hall if you need anything." He said, kissing her cheek lightly and getting up
Ethan POV"Why don't you get along with him?" She asks. I could tell by the look on her face that she was relieved I wasn't planning on bringing Haley. Haley and my Dad were in the same house for a week. Now that would be a recipe for disaster. Add me into the mix and we wouldn't have a recipe, we
