Ava’s POV

Aunt Margaret placed her palm on my head. “I think you’re having a fever, Ava?” she said when I returned from throwing up in the toilet.

I nodded. “Yes, Aunt. I went to see Dr. Dane. He said I should get enough rest and drink more water,” I lied.

“He didn’t prescribe any medication?” she asked, her face twisting with worry.

I shook my head. “I’m fine, Aunt,” I said, walking out of her sight. “We should get started with the cooking before it gets late. I’m hungry.”

She followed me as we headed to the kitchen.

The next day at school, I communicated with Bryan with a blink, and he understood. I didn’t think anyone knew I was pregnant. Chris hasn’t spread the news yet, I thought.

As I sat at my desk, I stared secretly at Liana. It still felt like a dream. Everything was now flashing through my mind like a rewinded tape. Liana had been behind it all this time?

So you could be this dangerous? I thought, my gaze fixed on her. She looked at me from the corner of her eyes, and we both understood what lay behind those stares—hatred, pain, and the hunger for revenge. Even if I let everyone else go scot-free, I would never let Liana escape punishment. She had taken me for a fool all this while.

A ping interrupted my thoughts. I looked—it was Bryan’s W******p message. I found it, the first message read. My eyes dropped to the second, which came after a long typing pause.

That was an edited video. Liana was the one passionately kissing Chris, not Kia. Kia was never involved with Chris. I hacked into Steve’s chat with Alex and discovered this.

Something deadly burned inside me. I raised my head, and Liana’s eyes met mine.

“Ava!” The teacher’s voice jolted me out of my thoughts.

“In short, everyone should submit your phones! I’ve said it a million times—if you must keep your phone in my class, it shouldn’t be a distraction!” Mr. Johnson’s voice boomed through the room, angry and loud.

Chris and Kia weren’t in school today. Their desks sat empty. Maybe he was too ashamed to face me. As Mr. Johnson stepped out, the students rushed to the front table to grab their phones. I stood to get mine too, but Tessa yanked my hair.

“Cheap hole!” she spat, drawing loud gasps from the class. Before she could speak again, I fought back, grabbing her hair and shoving her to the ground before she could think of her next move.

Bryan jumped up and yelled, “No, Ava! You can’t do that to Tessa!”

I rushed at her, pulling her up by the hair and landing a hard slap across her face. From the corner of my eye, I saw Liana watching—her hatred was dangerous, but mine was even more so. I wouldn’t fight her; she was stronger. But I would ruin her life until she cursed the day she knew me.

Bryan rushed toward me, but I warned him to stay out of it. Tessa used the moment to slap me across the face. I grabbed her hair again and slammed her head against the whiteboard. Her nose began to bleed. I shoved her toward the entrance—straight into Mrs. Blackwood, the principal of Elitis High, who had likely come after hearing about the fight.

“Enough!” she yelled, ordering us into her office.

We sat on the leather chairs as she placed a first-aid box in front of Tessa.

“One of the rules of this school is never to be involved in violence,” she said, wiping the blood from Tessa’s nose with cotton wool. She walked to the trash can and dropped it in.

“I’ve never seen you fight, Ava. Why now?” she asked as she walked back to us.

“She came at me first,” I blurted, my chest rising and falling.

She turned to Tessa, looked at her intently, then back at me.

“And you retaliated? Weren’t you supposed to call a teacher—or even me?”

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Blackwood. It won’t happen again,” I said, my expression unreadable. I didn’t regret it. I wasn’t remorseful at all.

I returned to class. Bryan rushed over, but I ignored him, picked up my phone, and went back to my desk.

“Ava, I didn’t mean to upset you. I was just concerned—you could have injured her badly if I hadn’t interfered.”

I looked up at him. “You’re nursing feelings for her, aren’t you?” I asked, my voice hoarse.

I tuned out whatever he said after. I opened my bag, grabbed my phone, and tapped on W******p. Chris’s chat was pinned, but now his profile picture was blank. I clicked it—it opened larger, and I confirmed it. He had blocked me. My chest tightened.

I reread Bryan’s message, letting it sink in.

Steve was involved after I had fulfilled my part of the deal. It was break time, so I left for Steve’s class. Bryan and I had agreed on this beforehand—he stayed back in class.

Steve was watching a movie on his phone, earphones in. I pulled them out to get his attention. He turned, realizing it was me. “Ava, why are you here?” he asked, his voice rough.

I wanted to lash out at him, but something told me not to.

“Steve, I have something I’d like to discuss with you.” I glanced around—this wasn’t the right place. “But not here.”

A flirtatious smile curled at the corner of his mouth. “So, where do you want us to go, Ava?” he asked, sounding almost caring. To some extent, Steve was a good guy, maybe even boyfriend material—but that wasn’t why I was here.

“The fields,” I said, raising a brow. He nodded, and we headed out.

As we stepped into the doorway, we almost ran into Liana. She was standing there, her face twisted with anger and pain. I shot her a disgusted look as I walked past with Steve. He didn’t even acknowledge her presence, walking by as if she were a statue.

Bryan’s eyes met mine as I passed my class, heading out of the building and into the open space toward the fields.

We sat under one of the trees; other students had already taken the nearby spots.

“It’s about my tuition fees,” I began. “You helped me get into Elitis High, and now I want you to keep paying until we graduate.”

His eyes narrowed.

“That’s a lot, Ava.”

“I know, Steve. I know you’re just a young guy trying to survive like you don’t have parents—but I’ll pay you back!” I blurted.

His shoulders dropped. “How?” His voice suddenly grew small.

“I’ll sleep with you again.”

A long silence stretched between us as our gazes locked, both our minds racing.

“I’ll fuck you again, Steve.”

  • Fractured   THE PUBLIC DISGRACE

Bryan’s POVChris turned slowly, his eyes narrowing at Kia, who stood trembling behind him.For a moment, he just stared. Then, without warning, he closed the gap between them, his hand rising to her cheek—not with tenderness, but with a sudden, sharp shove.Kia hit the floor with a gasp, her books scattering across the hallway tiles. The crowd erupted in shocked murmurs, but Chris didn’t flinch. He turned his back on her like she was nothing, facing Tessa again, his voice breaking.“I love you, Tessa,” he said, chest heaving. “I only love you. No one else.”The corridor held its breath. Tessa stayed still, her lips slightly parted as though she was trying to absorb every bit of what he had said. Then—“A lie,” a voice rang out from behind the crowd.Heads turned.Ava.She stepped forward from seemingly nowhere, her phone raised high in one hand. Her expression was cold, her gaze fell on Chris like a predator that had cornered its prey.“Let’s all hear what you really are, Chris,” she

  • Fractured   CLAIMING HER BACK.

Bryan’s POV“Something tells me this is Liana at work,” she said, still staring at the message.I took the phone and stared too, as if I could find the answer to her worries just by looking at the screen. I dropped the phone on the bed when the incident that had just occurred flashed through my mind.“But Ava, what happened earlier today? Where did you go, and why were you bleeding?”Her face saddened immediately as she clenched her tummy. “I went to discuss the accommodation issue with Doctor Dane, and he blatantly refused to help me, saying it was risky on his end since he doesn’t know my parents or relatives—and that if anything happened to me in his house, it might lead to big problems he was trying to avoid for the sake of his career. When he said all this, my heart bled and my chest became heavy again. I googled some abortion pills and bought them at a pharmacy on my way home with a fake doctor’s prescription. I took them in a serene place and boarded a taxi home. I’m sorry, Bry

  • Fractured   SAVING A FRIEND

Bryan’s POVI couldn’t breathe as I sat frozen in the doctor’s office, the weight of the unknown crushing me. Then, after what felt like hours, the doctor finally spoke.“Your sister… she’s lost the baby,” he said carefully, pausing to let the words sink in.A heavy silence settled in the room. My heart sank for a moment, the grief for her loss hitting me like a punch. But then, the doctor continued, his tone softening. “However… She’s fine. Stable and responding to treatment,” he said with a level of certainty. “She should make a full recovery. In fact, she’ll be discharged this evening.”Relief washed over me like sunlight breaking through storm clouds. My sadness and pain rolled away as though a new page of life had been flipped over. I jumped to my feet, my knees trembling with the force of the emotion.“Can I see her?” I asked eagerly, my voice trembling with urgency. The doctor nodded. “Yes, she’s awake and alert now. But take it easy—don’t startle her.”I raced down the corrido

  • Fractured   AVA’S DEAD?

Ava’s POVI got up from my sleep and looked around to see if Bryan’s parents were back yet, but they weren’t. I walked into Bryan’s room, then into the bathroom, and took a shower. After drying off, I stared at my tummy in the mirror, my mind heavy as memories of Chris flashed through me: our relationship and that birthday surprise at the hotel that night. “This is the result of that night,” I murmured. I quickly shook it off and picked up my phone, dialing Dr. Dane’s number. The line clicked, and his calm voice answered. “Hello, Ava. This is Dr. Dane.”“Good morning, Doctor,” I said, trying to sound alright. “I… I wanted to discuss something with you. It’s really important to me,” I added, pausing for him to respond, but the line remained silent. I continued, “My aunt found out that I was pregnant and threw me out of the house. I’m homeless right now, and that’s why I’m calling you, Doc. I don’t know if you can help me.” I remembered how Dr. Dane used to say I could confide in him, t

  • Fractured   TESSA WALKER IS FINALLY MINE

Bryan’s POVFrom the mirror, I saw Ava sitting on the bed behind me while I got dressed, ready for my first date with Tessa Walker, a famous and well-known model in the modeling industry. A black jeep honked in front of my house.“That must be Tessa,” I said as we peeped through the window. Her car was fucking clean. “A car for the governor’s children,” I thought.“I’ll see you, Ava! I’ll see you when I return,” I screamed over my shoulder as I rushed toward the door, disorganized. She said something, but I didn’t hear it clearly.I hopped into the car. Ava was watching from the window; I knew she was crying, but that was something we’d deal with when I returned. I sat in the back seat with Tessa, and her driver moved the car.I suddenly started sweating. I removed my handkerchief from my trouser pocket and wiped the sweat off my face several times. Tessa’s beauty was like the glow of the sun, too perfect and spotless. I couldn’t believe I was sitting next to her and now officially he

  • Fractured   A NEW CONSPIRACY

Chris’s POVI knocked at the door before twisting the handle open. Ava sat on the chair facing Mrs. Forrest. She glanced at me, then returned her gaze to the ground. My eyes darted between the two of them; I already knew what this was about. She asked me to sit beside Ava, which I did.“Did you get Ava pregnant?” she asked bluntly. I looked briefly at Ava before answering. “No, I’ve never been involved with Ava,” I said plainly. She didn’t look up at me. Mrs. Forrest let out a sigh.“Chris has just confirmed what you said, so who is the father of your baby?” she asked, her voice soft and calm. She signaled me to excuse myself, but I stood outside the door, listening.“You can confide in me, Ava.”“I went out after school with some friends and got drugged. But I don’t want anyone to know about this,” she lied, still pleading that Mrs. Forrest keep her secret. Silence filled the room for a moment.“And you don’t want me to hand this matter over—”“No! No, I don’t want any of that,” Ava
