Ava’s POV
After taking my bath, I picked up my phone, and my aunt wasn't in yet so I could leave without having to answer a ton of questions. I shut the door and walked towards the main road, soon the house was behind me. My dress was a beautiful red gown, one that earned me admirable glances and amazing compliments. My hair also did justice to my look as I had my hair tied up in a ponytail, one of my favorite hairstyles. As I arrived at the hotel, I texted Chris on W******p to let him know I had arrived, but he didn’t reply, so I called his phone. He picked up immediately but didn’t say anything. Just as I was about to speak, the soft moan of a woman’s voice sprang from the speaker. She kept pleading with him to go gently on her, saying his manhood was too big for her. My head spun. I removed the phone from my ear briefly to confirm the caller’s name again…yes it was ‘my smile’, the name I had used in saving Chris’s number. I placed it back to my ear, and Chris’s voice came through, breaking like cracked radio signals. “Hi, my love. Stay right there. I’m coming to meet you shortly.” The call ended and I stared speechless. What just happened? Isn't this another proof that Chris was cheating on me? But who was that girl? Or had Kia gotten here before me and slept with him already? Just as I was deep in my thoughts, Chris hurried down the stairs. “Hi baby,” he said, planting a kiss on my cheek. My stiff body didn’t respond. If our stares could kill a person, mine would have killed Chris because they weren't nice at all. I darted those scrutinizing looks that an African mother would give her child who had just misbehaved but still, I got no evidence to use in nailing him to the cross. He didn’t even look like someone who had just had sex: no woman’s cologne, no lip gloss stain on his shirt. He didn’t act suspiciously either. Or did I not hear correctly? “Are you okay, Ava?” he asked, and I nodded at once. “Chris, are you cheating on me?” I voiced out, almost unplanned. “Oh baby, come on! I thought we were over this? I already explained to you that I have nothing to do with Kia.” “This isn’t about Kia anymore. I heard a lady moaning like you were on top of her when I called. She was right here with you, right in this room.” Chris giggled. “Honey, that was the television,” he said, laughing again. I looked at the TV, and all I saw was a serious fight between two men. It was an action movie, not a romance or sex movie. I returned my gaze to Chris. “Stop lying!” I yelled, and his expression turned serious. “What do you mean, Ava?” “I’m no kid, Chris. I know when a guy is cheating and when he’s not.” He snapped his fingers in the air, and two men stormed in. My mind went blank. One was holding a saxophone, the other a bunch of red roses and a teddy bear. My eyes lit up when the man with the saxophone began playing and singing a happy birthday song for me. I turned 18 today, and I had only just remembered. Then came Chris’s friends, Alex, the boy from the same class as Steve, who Chris said had helped him track the private number and discovered it was Liana. He was standing beside Harrison: Chris’s best friend from home, who lived on the same street. After the saxophonist was done playing, Harrison popped a confetti popper, and shiny bits flew everywhere. My anger dissolved like salt in water. I jumped and hugged Chris, even kissing him in front of everyone. I hadn’t known Chris could be this romantic. I had accused him wrongly of cheating on me and had also been unnecessarily worried, even though it was clear enough that Chris loved me. He collected the roses and teddy bear from the other guy and handed them to me, placing a gentle kiss on my lips. I was already in tears. I couldn’t wait to tell him I was sorry for everything I had put him through. I also couldn’t wait to gist with Liana and show her my gifts. I thought that was all, but then Chris pulled out a diamond necklace from his pocket. He opened its box and gently put it on me. I cried, unable to contain the excitement in my heart, so I let the tears fall to show how much joy I felt in that moment. “My love, please don’t. I love you. Believe me, baby,” he pleaded, wiping my tears with his palm. His friends got so emotional too. “She loves you, man,” Alex said, as they popped champagne and everyone drank and celebrated. Later, Chris and I lay on the bed, drunk and excited. We talked about a lot of things: his hobbies, the places he’d love to visit in the future, what he found attractive in me, and all that. The Saxophonist had left, and so had the other two guys. I looked up at him and smiled. “Really? You find my eyes attractive?” I asked, expecting him to say that again. “Why?” I questioned after he responded. A grin spread across my face. “Your cat eyes are beautiful,” he complimented, earning a broad smile from me. Chris wasn’t the only guy who admired my cat eyes. It was one of the beautiful things I inherited from my Chinese mom. Unfortunately, she and my dad had passed away, and my aunt adopted me. Even though she isn’t so rich, I’m cool with her. He leaned forward, lying on top of me, but did not drop his full weight on me. He smiled, and I smiled back. The diamond necklace around my neck glittered like stars in the night sky. It must have cost a fortune, judging from the look. Chris and I were just a breath apart. “You know I can have you a million times a day. I can never get tired of your body.” My bones became weak; my body shivering under the subtle pressure of his masculinity and I couldn’t wait to grip him tightly and slide his manhood into me. I knew Chris loved spending quality time with me and also having quality sex. He spread my legs wide, and his tongue found its way between them. A soft moan escaped from my lungs as my body trembled under the pleasure of his head game. It was easier for him because my nightwear was a silk short gown with tiny straps that ran across my shoulders to my back. He slid two fingers into me, and I trembled. “Oh Chris,” a soft cry left my throat. “Fuck me, I beg of you.”DR. Dane’s POV“Are you alright, Ava?” I asked calmly. She blinked twice, a reminder that she was sane. I quietly pulled away from under her weight, and she lay naked on the bed, eyes still wide open. I wasn’t cool anymore, as Ava had succeeded in arousing me, causing my manhood to still be erect and refusing to go under my pants; even after it went under my pants, its stiffness was obvious. Just then, an unfriendly knock tore through the door. Ava’s eyes widened, and I stood still.“W…who the hell…” I said as I reached for the handle. I opened it, and to my utmost surprise, Nikky stood there, eyes swollen from crying. Her lips were a little bigger, and her face looked messy. This was how she always looked whenever she’d cried too much when we had misunderstandings or serious issues that affected our relationship. After opening the door, I stood there shocked. She knew it was just what she was thinking because the look on my face said it all. Nikky knew me too well, so she could inter
Dr. Dane’s POVI finished my shower and returned to the room with a towel around my waist. Ava had just taken hers and was seated quietly on the edge of the bed, her hands folded across her lap. Her eyes avoided mine each time I looked her way. There was a soft knock on the door, and the cook’s voice came through.“Sir, the dining table is ready.”Ava rose immediately and walked behind me as we made our way to the dining. The table was neatly set, two plates of food steaming, cutlery placed beside each. We sat across from each other, and the silence between us grew deeper. She ate slowly, barely raising her head. I forced myself to chew, even though the food tasted like sand in my mouth. When we finished, I stood up and told her to wait. I walked down to the bar, picked a bottle of vodka, and returned with one glass. She was still seated, her eyes fixed on the floor as if she were just meeting me for the first time. We returned to our room to at least have some privacy.I poured mysel
Ava’s POVHe helped me to sit in the chair opposite his, and I could feel my heart pounding from intense pain and anger, or something that looked like that.“How do you feel now, Ava?” he asked, but I couldn’t reply. He cleared his throat. “You never told me you took drugs to flush out the pregnancy, but I found out myself. Ava, do you want to kill yourself? What do you think you’re doing to yourself? What if the baby is affected in any way? What would you have done?”“I don’t think that’s any of your business,” I said, not knowing where the courage came from. Dr. Dane’s eyes widened. “Are you mad at me, Ava?”I was quiet; one voice said I should pour out my heart and tell him how long I have been nursing feelings for him. Tell him I love him so much, but won’t I look stupid and cheap again doing that? It’s clear that Dr. Dane doesn’t love me; he sees me as his kid sister and that’s all. To make matters worse, he is even engaged.“Ava,” he called again, pulling me out of my thoughts.
Ava’s POV When I finally woke up, my blurry eyes took in the sight of a figure standing before me. When my vision finally cleared, I realized it was a strange lady whom I was just meeting for the first time. She had beautiful blonde hair, brown eyes, and glowing tan skin with nice curves. “Ava right?” She asked. “I’m Nikky.” She sounded nice but didn’t release her hand for a shake, probably because I had an IV (intravenous drip) fixed on my right hand. I didn’t reply to her, I was too weak to even say a word. She wore a shirt dress that had buttons from the chest to the end of the gown before her knees. The bet was tied to the front to hold up its fitting and the chest was unbuttoned. After observing her, I concluded that she wasn't a nurse or a doctor. “Who got you pregnant?” she questioned with narrowed eyes. It was then that my consciousness returned fully. Different thoughts began trooping into my head. Was I still pregnant? After the drug? There must be a mistake some
Ava’s POVHis gaze dropped when I thought he was close enough for a kiss. I stepped aside to let him in. He smiled as if to say thank you while he walked in. My heart sank as I shut the door.I walked over to the sofa and sank into the chair.“Got any plans for your birthday?” he asked, but only got a single nod from me. I thought faking another birthday would get him to notice me or perhaps satisfy the uncontrollable cravings that were gradually eating me up. Still, it only made my cravings even stronger.Bryan had brought up this plan before I left for the job, to see if Dr. Dane would fall for it and love me, but it seemed like the harder I tried, the more difficult it became.I had supported Bryan in his love affair with Tessa, so he promised to reciprocate it and help me figure out ways in which Dr. Dane could love me back or even make love to me. He said doctors cherished sex on birthdays more than casual days, and I ended up buying the idea of faking a birthday only to get to h
Ava’s POVI rushed outside to meet him while he was entering his car. “I’ll come with you,” my small voice said beneath my breath. He looked back at me, his eyes narrowing, wondering what the hell I thought I was doing. He remained silent while I hopped into the car.The silence between us stretched as he drove, but my conscience wouldn’t let it continue. Was he mad at me now? Was he tired of me already?I cleared my throat, yet my voice cracked as I spoke. “When was the last time you spoke with Bryan?”He kept his head straight, eyes fixed on the road. “It’s been a while,” he replied coldly.Apologizing would ease a lot. I knew I had not been nice and considerate enough. From the corner of my eye, I glanced at him repeatedly until I couldn’t hold back the words anymore. “I’m sorry about what transpired between us in the hotel room.” My voice trembled but was loud enough to reach his ears.My eyes were fixed on my nails as I went on. “I just didn’t know what to do or say.” I wiped my
