The brightness of the weather was cool and foggy; the sky had a greyish turquoise tint, like the silt in the buckwheat straw of a wagon. Snow had fallen during the night, and its warm damp was now sticking to the seams of the sea. Not a breath of wind stirred the quiet air. It was very still, but a draft would blow across the street and make a little flurry of feet on the sidewalk.
Completely forgetting about the people who brought me to the beach, I slowly walked around the dense pine trees on the western side of the street, taking stock of the quiet street, my gaze still fixed on him, until I saw him sitting alone, across the narrow gap of a building, with a newspaper spread on his laps. Walking closer to him, I made sure my gaze was planted on his face, hoping not to miss a single moment of him.
As I walked closer, he pulled up his shirttail to get some of the air out of his shirt. I had a hunch. His head did not look at me, not even for a few seconds. But suddenly, he got up and went inside the building, at the entrance to the alleyway, with his face set and his arms folded over his chest. And in a flash, without looking, he left the alleyway, strolling through, in-between like a king going for battle. And in a blink, he came back, a blanket in his hands, and swiftly, he sat out, wrapping himself with it.
"What could be going on with him?" I paused, as I observed him silently. My mind still running on the thought that he was actually not looking stable at all. But not a single sign of a crazy thought crossed my mind. My gaze was still firmly fixed on him, but I don't think I ever expected a clear answer to my question.
His piercing eyes met mine with a silent exchange of emotions. And for the next few minutes, he watched me from inside the blankets as I walked to him.
"Hey, Joey! Is this you..? I never knew I was going to meet you in person. I thought all that was just a dream!" I said, excitedly, grabbing the blanket as I unwrapped him gently.
"W- what's, w-who's that ?" He asked, hastily, as he tried to slide out of his blanket with a confused look on his face as he was looking at my face.
I was incredulous, trying to push the thoughts aside, taking a deep breath as I looked at him, taking a small breath in, and he took a few deep breaths too. Shocking as it was, It was an adorable little boy to behold.
"Oh my God! Please, I'm so so sorry... I didn't know it was you! Please, I'm so sorry...!" I squealed in fright, holding my chest feeling so embarrassed. I looked down, still feeling weak from my heart attack, not knowing what to say. "How come I didn't see it wasn't Joey? What was I even thinking?" I looked down at him in disappointment, bringing my chin down to my chest as I wiggled my fingers in an attempt to help him cover up again. And suddenly, he was gone, and so was my guilt and shame.
And in a twinkle, I found myself feeling a soft hand on my shoulder that wasn't a hand. I became so shocked when I looked up to find Melinda's warm, reassuring eyes as she touched me on the shoulder with a soft cup, catching my breath as the flash of that simple touch brought back my memories of how I felt just seconds ago. I stood up straight and turned to her. She handed me a cup of warm popcorn and her eyes looked so concerned.
"What's wrong, hon? What's wrong with you? I asked myself, pinching my cheek.
"You look like you just saw a ghost or something. Is everything alright with you, Cilia?" She asked, her voice filled with concern in her looks. "Come on girl... I and Sanny have been worried about you. You left with the hope of returning in a short while, but ended up taking too much time." She paused as she looked down and then slowly back up to me, pleading with me to talk. I reached out and put my hand on her shoulder and pulled her close.
"Melinda.. I don't know what's happening... Everything has been a mess for me these past few days, and I just haven't been able to find my footing to return back to normal." Tears trickled down my cheeks, but I continued. "Everything is just starting to get so blurry to me right now. Don't let anything bother you, okay?"
"Come on Cilia... Your pain is my pain girl! Please calm down and relax your nerves; there's nothing wrong with you girl.. You're doing just fine!" Her words reassured me, yet, I didn't want to believe it. "You know what dear friend, you have to take a break; go out some more and be happy with your life for once! Jayson left you, doesn't mean your entire world is destroyed completely. You surely will find love again. Move on dear best friend..!"
Melinda didn't seem to understand my plight from her statement. Well...
"I know... But it's not about Jason"
"Then who, Cilia?"
"I-I-I I thought-" I couldn't complete my statement for I felt no urge to say how I was feeling.
"I understand Cilia, please, calm down for me, okay..?"
Ultimately, I hoped that better days would come for me according to her words. A day that I would find true love and a happy life filled with other better things. A life with no worries. Melinda's soothing words gave warmth to my soul, and I couldn't help but smile at her warmly.
"You know you look more better when you smile, right?" Sanny said from behind me. When I heard the words of his soft voice, I lost control of my body, and broke down in tears. He walked over to me and planted a soft kiss on my forehead. Shivers ran down my spine instantly, just the same way I usually felt when Joey was doing the same to me in my dreams.
"How could you let him leave Italy and come here to the US" Mrs Johnson said on the call, she glanced at Cassandra who slept peacefully on the couch."You don't expect me to keep him captive for so many years Vivian, Dennis is now an adult and he can detect for himself. It has been years since you helped me take him out of the hospital twenty five years ago but right now, I don't have any other thing to do anymore to keep him from doing what he wants". John Dutch responded as he smoked his pipe slowly."But you shouldn't have" Mrs Johnson snapped with anger,"Now things are so messed up because my daughter is in love with him without knowing that he is no one else but her nephew" she fired back, glanced at Cassandra and was happy that she is still asleep.
Mrs Johnson quickly let go of Cassandra's grip and stared at her daughter with stunned eyes. Cassandra could see her mum's face suddenly turn white as a ghost, her face not leaving her daughter."You mean you have seen Kate's son?" Her mother asked still in shock, her eyes not leaving Cassandra who nodded in affirmation.Mrs Johnson glanced at the door expecting whoever it was to walk into the house, "Where is he?" She asked as tears slowly appeared in her eyes.Cassandra looked down at the ground and back to her mother's face, she shook her head, "He isn't here with me mother but you have met him".Mrs Johnson stared at her daughter so confused, she couldn't understand Cassandra at all and w
Dennis started a Cassandra speechless, he never knew that he was a stolen child, no one told him about this.He glared deeply at Cassandra with tears in his eyes. If he is kidnapped, his parents must know something about this, they only told him that he is their foster son and nothing else."What is the name of my father?" He asked Cassandra who looked up at him.She looked like she was thinking deeply to remember his name, "His name is John Dutch" she replied and Dennis eyes some in shock. He looked at Cassandra as great shock filled his body, his ears unable to believe her words because John Dutch is no one else but the name of his foster Mafia father.
Cassandra felt her whole world collapse, she glanced at the paper in front of her and looked up at the serious face of Dennis.Right now, she knows that the truth has been let out to Dennis and lying to him won't be good at all. With agony in her heart, she closed her eyes and looked down, her eyes unable to look at Dennis face."Yes, I know who your mother is, Dennis". She confessed and her heart shattered into pieces.Dennis, frozen at where he stood, he stood straight, his shocked wide eyes fixed on Cassandra who didn't look up at him, with the guilty look on her. Dennis knew that Cassandra knew all along and didn't tell him, the realization alone broke his heart into pieces.
Dennis looked up at the blonde in front of him as he tried to understand what she meant by her words."Do you think that you will be able to say those words to me after I show you this?" Bella revealed with fury, placing a picture and a piece of paper in front of him, her eyes not leaving him.Confused, Dennis glanced at the paper in front of him, he looked up at Bella still not understanding what she was trying to point out."What is the meaning of this ?" He implored pointing at the paper in front of him.Bella smirked, "Why don't you open it and see for yourself" she pinpoint not trying to look away from him.At first, Denni
A figure of a woman was seen sitting inside her car with a stick of cigarettes, she puffed out a smoke, her eyes fixed on pedestrians who were walking down the street. With her pair of black sunglasses on, she glanced at her wristwatch, looked up and took another puff of smoke, longer and bigger this time around."Why the hell is he always late?" She asked herself, her body filled with nothing but impatience. It's already been a week since she gave him this job and now, she is here to take the result of the work she paid him for. With a frown on her face, she smoked nonstop as the car was filled with smoke, her eyes constantly checking her car. After a few minutes, she saw a huge white man in
Cassandra stared at the image right in front of her, her heart began to beat so fast than it has never been before. She couldn't move her body, it was like her whole world had just crashed down in a single blow and she thought that everything was finished right now. Hot tears welled up in her eyes as she couldn't let go of the image which stared back at her, memories kept crawling in like wildfire.Dennis noticed her indifferent behavior, he turned to her wondering what's wrong, his gaze surveying her face which felt like she had just seen a ghost."Are you all right?" He implored with a softening voice, his look very concerned.Cassandra quickly pretended like everything is fine, she looked up at him and smiled charmingly, "I am fine dear, I just feel so b
Cassandra watched Dennis walk into the nearby kitchen and arrange the food which smelled so nice. Soon, they found themselves eating and laughing heartily as the moonlight shone brightly into the house. After dinner, they both sat on the couch, Cassandra laid her head on his chest with their eyes fixed on the images on the TV set."This movie is a bit boring," Cassandra confessed, letting out a sigh."Do you want to watch anything else?".She shook her head, "No dear, I don't feel like watching a movie, I guess that's why it seems boring to me. I just want to do something else with you" she raised her head and stared at him.Dennis s
Cassandra and Dennis' relationship grew pretty quick more than they had ever expected. As their love for each other grew, so did their closeness, it was hard for anyone in the office to notice it because of course, Dennis is Cassandra's PA and they didn't display this love out in public."We love each other Cassandra, why can't you let people know that we are together?" Dennis asked her one night as they both went on a walk, a displeased look on his face.A worried look appeared on Cassandra's face, "We just can't Dennis" she let out feeling very overwhelmed by his question.Dennis stopped walking, he stared at her with furred eyebrows,"Are you ashamed of me Cassandra? Are you scared that people will gossip that you choose no one but your PA who is way below
