Beijing, October 16th (Xinhua) - October 16th is World Food Day. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated at the regular press conference on the same day that China has taken active actions to safeguard global food security and will continue to make unremitting efforts to accelerate the implementation of the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and build a better world, from stabilizing its own rice bowl to contributing to global poverty reduction.

A reporter asked: Today is World Food Day. Not long ago, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and others released the 2025 "State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World" report, which pointed out that the proportion of hungry people worldwide decreased to 8.2% last year, continuing the steady downward trend in recent years. However, there are still about 673 million people struggling on the hunger line, and there is still a long way to go before achieving the "zero hunger" vision proposed by the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. What is China's comment on this?

Food security is crucial to human survival, "said Lin Jian. As the world's largest food producing country, China has nurtured over 1.4 billion people with less than 9% of the world's arable land. In recent years, China's comprehensive food production capacity has continued to improve, with more than 1 kilogram of every 5 kilograms of grain produced in the world coming from China, making outstanding contributions to maintaining global food security.

Lin Jian stated that China has always been committed to improving global food security and assisting the world's poverty reduction process through international cooperation.   We rely on our own efforts to transform from a technical recipient country of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to a core contributor. We are the developing country with the most funding assistance, the most experts dispatched, and the most projects carried out under the framework of the Food and Agriculture Organization's South South cooperation. China has carried out agricultural cooperation with more than 140 countries and regions, promoting over 1000 agricultural technologies to developing countries, training more than 14000 professional and technical personnel in hybrid rice, and using practical actions to help solve the global food shortage problem in the South, gradually turning the global vision of eradicating hunger and poverty into reality.
