Chapter 1111

Author: Cozy Season
Kale shook his head, confused.

Drake was even more convinced of his thoughts. 'Debra is biased because she loves Marion. She was just trying to whitewash his actions.'

He thought over the whole event and huffed, "Why did she come to my place and cause a scene? It's not like I hurt Marion. She made it sound like I did it on purpose. It's infuriating."

"Boss, they are newlyweds. She's bound to be protective," Kale explained. "This whole thing isn't really your fault. Robert is the one who used you to hurt Marion and drive a wedge between you two."

Drake nodded but quickly caught himself. "Wait, what relationship do Marion and I have? Just shut up if you don't know what you're talking about."

"Boss..."

"Go, get out of my sight."

"Yes, boss."

"Wait. Come back. Have someone keep an eye on the hospital. Let me know when Marion wakes up. I'm not taking the blame for something I didn't do."

"Understood."

Kale knew he was just putting on a tough act.

All these years, Drake had talked

Marion came out of the house and hopped into the car."Sir, where to next?" asked the secretary."The company," Marion replied, pulling out his phone and dialing a number he knew by heart. No one was answering, and he got even antsier. The secretary clocked his jittery vibe. "Sir, back to the office?""No. The McKinney Group."Marion's nerves screamed. He prayed it wasn't as bad as he feared. At the McKinney Group headquarters, the staff buzzed like bees. Hardly anyone noticed Marion barreling in.Ben spotted him and approached. "Mr. Houston? What brings you here? And isn't Mrs. Houston with you?"Marion stopped mid-stride, then spun around and bolted out.The secretary trailed him, watching him go from jogging to sprinting. He rarely lost his cool like that. The secretary trotted to catch up, asking where they were headed, but got no answer. At the Central Hospital, the corridor stretched empty. Only Barton and Jordan stood to one side.Experts filed out of the meeting ro

At the Houston Group headquarters, Marion slouched in the meeting room chair. The same tired lines droned around him.He cut in, weary. "Are you done?"The room went dead quiet. Everyone held their breath, stealing glances at him. "Guess that's a wrap," he said, standing up.He'd woken up on edge early in the morning. He didn't know why, but his heart had been racing. One guy jumped up. "Sir, there are other proposals." "If I've gotta micromanage everything, why the hell do I pay you?" Marion frowned. "Figure it out yourselves. I've got stuff to do."He walked out of the room, with his secretary trailing him. "Sir, the next stop is Osborne Group.""I'm heading back to Potter Mansion."The secretary blinked because a lot of issues were still waiting for Marion to address....Erica and Randy hunched over the living room sofa, buried in files.Beside their phones lay three laptops and two tablets. When Marion stormed in, they pounced like he was their lifeline."Thank Go

It had been given to her some time ago by Drake.Debra had nearly died trying to swipe it from him, but in the end, he had just handed it over."It's evidence of big-shot crimes," she said. "But I don't want it to be public. This is just a copy.""I don't quite get it." Pedro stared, puzzled."This flash drive has got dirt on too many heavy hitters. You don't wanna make enemies. Just use it to take down their shady businesses. We'll fry the big fish ourselves.""Sounds like a plan. I'm in.""Thank you."After all she'd been through, Debra got how the world worked. Not every bad guy got what was coming. Too much unfairness was out there. When the law couldn't touch certain people, they'd take it into their own hands. They would do it quietly without upsetting the public.Every circle had its unwritten rules. Business was no different.Starting today, she'd set those rules. Anyone stepping out of line and screwing society would be taken down.Pedro left, and Debra felt lighter

Ben hesitated. "For real? They're still hurt.""Yeah, do it," Debra said. The pair in the room perked up, itching for something to do. Then their phones started pinging.Their smiles faded when they saw a barrage of documents, including contracts, renewals, breach penalties from stalled businesses, financials, department summaries, layoffs, and the Illuminati spy probes.Erica's head spun. She looked at Debra, who had walked in. "All of these?""Yup," Debra replied. "The Illuminati hit everyone hard. Every company is in the same boat. Marion has been up before dawn at his company, hiring elites to lighten the load. Millions have been spent. Your company is not looking great either. Good luck with it.""Debra..." Erica whined.Debra plugged her ears and headed to Randy's room next door.He held his phone out like it was sacred. "I'm sorry, and I appreciate your hard work these past few days. My shoulder's still rough and might take a month or two to heal. My company will be depe

Liza looked down, fidgeting as she grabbed Debra's hands."We're still friends, right?""Yeah.""Fermin had his reasons for how he treated you guys. I..." "I understand. We're good. Swing by when you're free.""Cool."Outside the Potter Mansion, Fermin's crew rolled up to get her. After Liza left, Theda sighed. "Great. We're already slammed, and now with her gone, we're screwed.""Yup, even busier," Debra said, shaking her head. The company mess alone gave her headaches."Wait a second," Theda said. "We're all swamped, but where's Jordan? He's usually first in line to help.""Andrew gave him some job," Debra said. "Probably busier than us these days.""Andrew, huh?""You guys go way back, don't you?""Well, I just owe him a favor. I used to wonder what kind of woman could match a guy like him. Then I figured someone that brutal would probably end up single. Gave up thinking about it.""That's a wild angle.""The first time I saw him, he was more untouchable than any m

"I don't understand." Debra played dumb.Drake pressed, "I'm not as smart as Marion, but I'm not clueless. In the valley, you had us plug our noses because you knew what'd happen if we breathed too much, didn't you?"She stayed quiet, which only fueled his hunch."That dream does wipe out regrets," he said, looking up. "I saw my mom and that man. He didn't ditch her."Debra blinked, and he smiled bitterly. "Turns out, all my crap ties back to that guy.""That dream is fake. Everything in it is unreal. Don't overthink it," she said."You too," he said, leaning against the bed. "If you weren't overthinking, you wouldn't be grilling Andrew.""So, you know what I'm after. Everyone does, except me.""I learned one thing when I was little. Truth doesn't come from others. You want it? Dig it up yourself. Don't expect anyone to just hand it over."He paused, then met her eyes. "Unless you don't wanna dig."From what he knew of Debra, if she wanted answers, she'd have sniffed them out

Drake froze on the bed.Heads poked in from outside. Randy, still banged up, was included."Whoa!" Theda leaned on the doorframe. "Dude, that's not cool."Drake pushed Debra away and grunted, "What're you doing in my room?"Debra sulked, "Seriously? You've been out for three days. We've been taking turns looking after you.""What are you talking about?" Drake looked lost.William walked in with medicine. "Yeah, Randy and Erica are both hurt. Theda and Liza have been tag-teaming Erica. Marion and Robert had to juggle you besides helping Debra and Oscar address the messes. I couldn't watch you solo, so we rotated. Today is Debra's shift. You woke up and lost it."Drake's expression soured. "I didn't ask for it.""We thought you were toast," Debra said, dusting off her sleeves. "Luckily, you're up now. William says it's just scrapes, but your old wounds are still healing, so stay in bed for more days.""No way. He needs to deal with Orkgate's mess," Theda chimed in. "I've got no

"Mom, look, it's Dad."In winter, a boy pointed at a shiny car up ahead.A kind-faced man stepped out and walked up with a smile. "I'm here to pick you up."Drake jolted awake from the scene."Drake, you okay? Got a fever?" A richly dressed woman patted his shoulder. "Remember to get along with your new classmates. Make friends and don't act up."Drake blinked, finding himself in a fancy car. The streets rolled by outside."Mom?" He stared, stunned.Mary Lowe jumped. "What's with you today? Look, Arcane Academy's top-tier. Once you're there..." Her voice faded in and out.Drake's head pounded. He opened his eyes to the dark corridor."Hey, quit spacing out." Randy smacked his head.Drake tensed, looking around.Randy held a nose plug. "Debra said the smell here is off, so we're all wearing these. Don't wanna breathe in junk. What were you zoning out for?"Drake grabbed the plug. The corridor flickered, overlapping with Seamar City's bustling streets."Drake, are you wit

The others were relieved to hear that, but Marion knew Debra would not give up on finding the truth even if it would rip her apart."Ow. Easy, man," Randy yelped as a dazed Drake jabbed him.Drake snapped out of it, scowling. "Come on. Don't be a crying baby. I've taken worse without complaining.""You're built like a tank. I'm just a pampered prince.""Say that again?""You heard me.""Wanna fight? I've just been going easy on you.""Bring it on."Marion cut in, deadpan. "Time to move.""This place gives me the creeps," Drake grumbled. "What were those Illuminati freaks thinking?"Robert nudged him, shaking his head.Drake caught on that he had hit Randy's sore spot. Still, he didn't sugarcoat it. The Illuminati was trash."Before you rag on others, check your own company's dirty laundry," Erica shot back. "You've got some nerve."Drake's face darkened, but he would not argue with women.Theda led the way. "I heard the Illuminati's core stuck with it because of this gate
