Chapter 997 High and Mighty

ผู้เขียน: Five Generals
“Thump!”

Behind Harrison, a dozen of his crew kneeled together with him.

“Um…”

The spectacle threw everybody else for a loop.

It was unbelievable.

Harrison, the consul of Paladia, kneeled before Kaze instead of getting even with him.

Many rubbed their eyes, wondering if their eyes deceived them.

“That’s impossible!” Danny yelled horrifically, and his despair was clear in his voice.

His life was over at that point.

Harrison was a national hero. As the consul, he represented Paladia.

Yet, he was quick to kneel before Kaze.

“How could that be? How did it happen? Who the hell are you?”

Sherry freaked out.

Paladia was the land she had always wanted to be in. Her biggest dream was to get a green card and immigrate there.

She did not believe Arcadian men were good enough for her.

Sure, Sherry was involved with some men, but she only saw them as tools for her own gains.

Yet now, Kaze crushed Danny, the pseudo-aristocrat, while Harrison, a consul, groveled at Kaze

“Argh!” Danny yelled in agony. No Arcadians on the scene pitied him. If not for Harrison, they would not have known that Danny turned to Arcadia to scam the people because he could not make a living in Paladia. Their cheeks burned with shame as they defended Danny when Kaze called him trash. Adam was upset. He sucked up to Danny moments ago. Smack!Bam!Harrison roughed Danny up, only stopping once he believed Danny had enough. Danny sank to the ground without the energy to scream anymore. His eyes bulged resentfully at Kaze. Danny could not understand why Harrison would revere Kaze. He was not the only one puzzled. No one could figure the situation out. Everybody wondered if Kaze was more than he let out to be. Nevertheless, the fact that Harrison, the Paladian Consul General, was so intimidated by Kaze and considered him to be on the same level as the Queen of Paladia was beyond the imagination of those present.“Are you happy with that, sir? If not, I don’

Harrison represented Paladia, and the last thing he wanted was for the embarrassing incident to become public knowledge. Besides, Harrison knew how to take a hint. Since no one seemed to be aware of Kaze’s identity, Harrison understood that Kaze preferred to keep a low profile. Hence, Harrison was sure Kaze would not want word to get out either. Everybody was too scared to make the incident public. They would not be able to make the consul apologize on his knees like Kaze. Once Harrison was gone, the crowd was relieved and looked at Kaze with complex emotions. The man who took his wife’s last name sure gave everybody something to think about tonight. “I’m sorry, Mr. Lee, Ms. Quint. I want to apologize for my earlier disrespect. I shouldn’t have been so quick to judge. I hope you can forgive me.” Many who took jabs at Kaze and Darcy moments earlier came seeking forgiveness. Those who took things too far even kneeled on the ground. The consul of Paladia had dropped to

Adam’s mind wandered back to the recent event. Sure enough, Kaze said something vaguely on the phone which scared Harrison to apologize on his knees. The whole thing was absurd and defied common sense. Besides, Darcy tried to drag Kaze to take cover in Horizon Mirror in case of an act of revenge. The chief commander placed the area under heavy guard. Chief Commander Lang was the God of War’s right-hand man. In other words, Darcy’s family had gotten into the habit of using the God of War’s name to get what they wanted. “That bastard! How dare he lie to me!” Adam was furious to be fooled. “Do you get it now, Adam?” George burst out laughing and said, “Just turn up the heat on the idiot to release Cosmo and make a personal apology. “He has less than an hour left in the three-day time limit. “We will not allow the idiot to ask for more time. “I will try and get in touch with Harrison to expose Kaze’s lies.“My family and I won’t have to lift a finger because the

“You’re asking for it, bastard!” Adam heaved angrily because Kaze was not in despair despite his exposed lies. “I’m telling you now, Kaze. The Lees are in contact with Harrison about you posing as the God of War.“If you don’t want Harrison to kill you, you should wise up in letting Cosmo go and apologizing to the Lees in person. “They might just save you since you were part of the family.” Adam then turned to Darcy. “Your idiot husband can’t think straight. You should talk some sense into him before he harms your entire family.” “Kaze, maybe you should release Cosmo.” Darcy gave Kaze a yank. She did not want to see Kaze confront a mammoth presence like the Lees. Harrison was a terrifying figure, but he was a foreigner without strong ties to Arcadia. The Lees were a different story. As an affluent family, the Lee family was well-established and connected. They had many ways to hurt them. Kaze sighed. “I don’t want to fight the Lees, but they won’t get off my back

Adam was stunned. Kaze’s way of thinking was too complex for Adam to grasp. Before Adam could say anything, Kaze told Johnson, “Ask Harrison for a little favor, Johnson. “You work for the government, so it won’t look good on you to take the law into your own hands.” Adam smirked in rage. “Kaze, the Lees have exposed your lies to Harrison. I can’t believe you expect Harrison to do your bidding. “He might be on his way back to kill you.” “We shall wait and see.” Kaze smiled. Back in Lilyrose Detention Center, Harrison went through the formalities for Jason’s and his crew’s release. He received a phone call when leading them out of the detention center. “Hello, Mr. Ford. I’m George, the head of the Lee family.” Knowing who George was, Harrison said courteously, “What can I do for you, Mr. Lee?” “Here’s the thing. I need to tell you something, Mr. Ford.“The young man you met at the hotel tonight is Kaze Lee. You thought he was the God of War and kneeled before him.

Jason was still limping from his injuries, but that did not stop him from dealing with a defenseless man like Cosmo. He lifted Cosmo and broke his legs. “Argh! Save me, Dad!” Cosmo’s harrowing screams filled the air. George observed his son’s dismal fate on the phone, his eyes bulging. “Watch this.” Back at the hotel, Kaze handed his phone to Adam which played a video sent by Harrison. Adam took the phone for a look, and soon, he grimaced. Harrison went through with breaking Cosmo’s legs. That was the last thing Adam expected from Harrison. Adam dumped the phone back to Kaze. He said angrily, “Idiot! Do you think the Lees will let you get away with it? They will make you pay! Just you wait!” Adam refused to believe that Kaze was the God of War. It was likely that the Lees did not manage to get a hold of Harrison. “Since you work for the Lees, you can let them know that the punishment on Cosmo is my final warning. They have one month to comply with my demands

Adam’s words did not sit right with Sam. Sam was lured under the false pretense of discussing the healthcare market, only to find himself expected to provide medical treatment.Seeing that Adam, a high-ranking officer in the health department, was enlisted to help, the patient must be wealthy and important. Sam could not stand patients who pulled strings to get what they wanted. Nevertheless, saving lives was still Sam’s priority. He asked patiently, “Who is the patient?” “Sam, the patient he’s talking about is likely Narian, and now Cosmo too,” Kaze said curtly. Kaze was surprised that the Lees had not given up on getting Sam to treat Narian. He turned to Adam and said indifferently, “You might not know, but I am the one who fractured Narian’s legs.“You can leave now. Sam will not treat any member of the Lee family.” Adam was stunned. Word that Narian was crippled had gone around the privileged community of Sunrise City. Adam did not expect the assailant to be Ka

Adam had pissed Kaze off for the last time. He had been pushing his luck the whole night. Kaze would have smacked anyone else a long time ago. However, he let it go because Adam was Darcy’s uncle. Yet now, Adam threatened that Agnes would not be allowed back with the family unless Darcy divorced him. That was where Kaze drew the line. Kaze narrowed his eyes and headed straight toward Adam. “Kaze!” Darcy pulled him back and shook her head with worry. She was concerned that Kaze’s drastic response would stir more trouble. With Kaze staying put, Darcy turned to look at Adam. She took a deep breath before uttering, “Get over yourself, Uncle Adam. “No one can step into my marriage to Kaze, not even my parents.” Darcy’s tone was firm and resolute. She then took off together with Kaze. Adam stood there, his face ashen. Kaze and Darcy humiliated him tonight. Adam did not believe he had done anything wrong. In fact, Kaze and Darcy had been aggressive all night. “

“Just make yourself at home here. Let me know if you need anything. Dwight will be there for you.” Edmund could tell that Kaze and Dwight were tight. He could play this to his advantage. Though Kaze refused to disclose his motives, Edmund kept him under surveillance. Nothing escaped his eyes. With that in mind, Edmund felt his worries melting away. “Thank you, Mr. Witterson. I was sent here at the last minute. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be so lucky to have met you.” Kaze seemed intent on bonding with Edmund. He sucked up to Edmund. Most importantly, Edmund no longer suspected him, and that was the reason Kaze accepted the invitation to stay. All Kaze had to do now was reassure Edmund. Some things were not worth stressing over. Dwight quietly enjoyed his drink, oblivious to the state of things. Sparks were flying earlier, and everything seemed fine again. Maybe it was all in his head. “You need to take good care of Kaze, Dwight. He’s our guest,” Edmund stressed. “Do

It was all clear to Edmund at this point. He stroked Clarice’s hair tenderly, feeling sorry for what she was going through. She should be getting better care. Yet, she was often neglected. Life at the Geofrey household had not been good for Clarice. Without Edmund’s pull, he would not be able to keep Clarice’s father in line. “You can be a bit of a handful, but you should do you. I’ll always have your back.” Edmund’s heart went out to Clarice. He was also worried about not raising her right. He could always look out for Clarice. However, there was always that fear that he could not be there for her in time. “I knew you’d help me. I don’t think I can go home just yet.” Clarice knew her father too well. It would take a while before her father calmed down. Besides, Edmund would stand by her through and through. Her father would not say a thing. Clarice understood that fact a long time ago. She would run to Edmund at any sign of trouble. “Go with the housekeeper. Feel

Everybody turned their attention to Dwight. Sensing danger, Dwight could feel chills creeping down his spine. “Slow down, tiger,” Kaze said. He grabbed a napkin for Dwight to wipe his mouth. Kaze’s behavior raised eyebrows. Despite Ryan’s outburst, Kaze carried on without a care. Kaze was more than he put out to be. Edmund looked at Kaze with admiration. He valued a talent like Kaze if the latter’s loyalty were with him. Kaze conducted himself with composure in the face of pressure. The underlying tension eased up due to Dwight’s little episode. Ryan looked at Dwight begrudgingly. Here he thought that Dwight would keep to himself, but he screwed up anyway. Dwight needed boundaries. Sure enough, Ryan could see why Dwight could never earn any respect. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.” With all eyes on him, Dwight felt bad and explained himself. Edmund was not that upset anymore. He looked at Kaze to see what he had to say. There was something about Kaze. Howev

“Focus more on eating and less on talking at the dinner table.” Kaze was concerned that Dwight would get on Edmund’s nerves. It would be the end of Dwight. “What’s wrong? Have I done something wrong?” Dwight was still oblivious to his fault. “No. Mr. Witterson wanted us here to ask me some questions. If you answer them all, there really is no point in me being here.” Kaze knew how to handle Dwight. He could get Dwight to shut up without much explanation. “Oh, I get it. You’re the boss.” Dwight was on his best behavior. A white table runner was laid across the long table in the dining room. A variety of delicious food had been set out on the table. There was a beautiful centerpiece display, too. Edmund, Kaze, and the others approached the table and exchanged pleasantries before taking their seats. Seated at the head of the table, Edmund looked at Kaze on his left-hand side. “I hope the food is to your liking. The chef can prepare something else if you have a

Ryan could not shake off a strange feeling. If Kaze were the Butterworth Branch chief’s trusted aide, he would have settled down in the city. However, Kaze appeared to be a free man. Life did not seem to get him down. Since Kaze enjoyed staying in hotels, he was not a fan of being restrained. However, Kaze’s motives for being in Westeros were unknown. Word on the street was that the Butterworth Branch was going after the Westeros Branch. Not knowing how the Butterworth Branch operated, Ryan believed he should not ask too many questions. He could only keep watch over Kaze. Dwight played a mobile game until his phone battery was out. He then chose to head outside. Seeing that Kaze and Ryan were taking a stroll, Dwight approached them. “What are you guys talking about?” Dwight asked out of curiosity. Unbeknownst to him, his participation interrupted the probing. The grin on Kaze’s face widened when Dwight came closer. “We were just chatting. “Since Dwight is

Edmund was curious enough about Kaze to make him stay. Kaze’s plan worked pretty well. Dwight was glad. He assumed that his flattery pleased Edmund enough to score a free dinner with the big man. Edmund took Ryan with him. Kaze turned to Dwight, his eyes reflecting gratitude. Sure enough, Dwight was the perfect sidekick. “Why are you staring at me?” Dwight was oblivious that he had upset Edmund, though it was not a bad offense. Edmund thought nothing of Dwight. The latter was just an expendable minion. He could just transfer Dwight out and make him leave the Viper’s Den if he was too much of an eyesore. All Edmund had to do was say the word. Ryan left the living room with Edmund and ascended the stairs. He spoke in hushed tones to gauge Edmund’s intentions. “Should I get Dwight out? He’s rude.” Ryan did not expect Herman to put Dwight on airport pick-up duty. Alas, Kaze responded well to Dwight, and they hit it off. Ryan was baffled as to why Kaze and Dwig

Dwight approached with a smile. He looked at Edmund earnestly. “I am Dwight McCorney. I have heard good things about you. I finally got to meet the man of the hour. “It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. Witterson.” Dwight was starstruck. Edmund was embarrassed by Dwight’s behavior. He could not believe that Dwight was a member of the Viper’s Den. Nevertheless, Dwight seemed genuine in expressing his thrill. Edmund became curious about him. He turned around to look at Kaze, who was the polar opposite of Dwight. Kaze stood there, holding his ground. He stood up to greet Edmund and nothing else. He appeared to be refined, unlike Dwight, who was brash. Dwight had no idea that his behavior had upset Edmund. Edmund looked at Dwight in disdain. However, Dwight was a member of the Viper’s Den. It was best for Edmund to keep his comments to himself. Without a word, Edmund stared at the pair. Ryan stepped in to smooth things over. “What are you doing? We have a guest here.

Since Kaze would not change these people’s minds, he was better off doing what he wanted to do. “This vase must be valuable. I got to give it to Mr. Witterson. A display in the living room is worth so much.” Dwight had never seen so much luxury in one room. He had been to the museum, but the displays were nothing like he had ever seen before. The rich had the means to splurge. “Do you think this is pure gold?” Dwight turned to a gold statue. The design was to die for. The purity of color made it hard to doubt its authenticity. “I’m not too sure, but I guess most of the ornaments here are real.”Kaze watched as Dwight gasped in awe. Nevertheless, his behavior would clear any suspicion on Kaze. It could be a good thing. “I knew Mr. Witterson was rich. His businesses are doing well. “But I didn’t expect this sort of lifestyle. The gold must be worth a million dollars. “If I were this wealthy, I would not spend it on decoration.” Dwight rambled on, his eyes stuck t

“I’m not familiar with the area. We’ll have to look around,” Dwight said behind the wheel. He looked for restaurants while driving. It was early, and many restaurants were not open for business. They circled the block and finally uncovered a small breakfast bar. They ordered some food, filled their bellies, and got back into the car. “Mr. Witterson said that he wouldn’t meet you. Why does he want to see you now?” Dwight was curious. Something must have happened last night. Otherwise, Edmund would not suddenly grant an audience to Kaze. “I don’t know. I had some drinks last night, and now he probably made time.” Kaze felt better after breakfast. He did not think much of the situation. Things would carry on as planned regardless of what the Wittersons or the Siegfrieds had to say. This was exactly what Kaze hoped for. Dwight remained in the dark. He drove to the city’s most exclusive area for the rich. It was all greenery in this part of town. The road was wider, an
