Mag-log inScarlet stood by the side, watching as her family cried over her corpse. She stared at her body, which was about to be cremated, and her heart clenched.
She had been dead for two weeks, and in those two weeks, she had been forced to watch her family cry daily over her, her best friend breaking down every time she saw anything related to her, and even the people she rarely communicated with were all shedding tears when they heard about her death.
She had been feeling conflicted ever since then. Her mind wouldn't stop imagining scenarios of change. What if she hadn't died? What if she had fought with her parents when it all happened, if she had run away from home, if she had tried to be stronger... What if, what if, countless what ifs had been running through her mind, but it only annoyed her even more.
She hated to see her family cry over her. She hated the fact that she was the source of their sorrow when everything she ever wanted was to put a smile on their faces despite everything she'd gone through. She felt saddened when she watched her father faint and was unable to stop crying when he heard about her death...
This was the family she hated so much but loved just as much.
The same family that ruined her___, yet she loved so much.
"Hey, Scarlet!"
A round, fluffy creature nudged Scarlet, scaring her out of her thoughts. "Are you okay?" The creature asked.
Scarlet lowered her eyes to see the fluffy creature talking to her, and for a moment, she thought she was hallucinating. She stretched forth her hand and gently touched the creature only to rush back in fear. "What, what are you?" She stuttered, her eyes wide open.
The fluffy ball stared at Scarlet and rolled its eyes. "You look like you've just seen a ghost when you're a ghost yourself." It hissed. "Call me Fate Ball. I'm here for you." Fate Ball introduced itself.
Scarlet stared at the fluffy ball for a very long time without saying a word. Surprisingly, her mind was calm, and her earlier fear was nowhere to be found, but she just couldn't find a reason to converse with a strange creature. She returned to stand beside her younger brother, who had red eyes from crying, totally ignoring the fluffy ball.
Fate Ball rolled toward her in the air and watched with her, not saying a word for a moment. "Scarlet,'" it called.
Scarlet turned her head to look at it, not saying anything, but it was obvious she was listening. "Do you want to see something?" It asked.
Scarlet returned her gaze to her body, her arms wrapped around her chest as she ignored the Fate Ball.
"There's something you would like to see. It's my gift to you." Said the Fate Ball.
Scarlet ignored it.
"Really? Then, come see." It got excited.
Scarlet's heart skipped a beat, and she finally turned to look at the rolling ball again. "I'm not..." But she wasn't able to finish her sentence when she was pulled into a void.
Opening her eyes again, Scarlet realized her environment had changed. She looked around, perceiving the dusty smell of the new place while taking in the desolate aura that surrounded the place...
"Scarlet!" Fluffy ball shouted.
Scarlet calmly looked around, inwardly wondering why Fateball had brought her to this sort of place, but her wandering eyes soon fell on a figure at the center of the abandoned-like room. "Isn't that Carlos?" She asked with disbelief.
Fateball rolled over to the figure's side and nudged him, but the person remained sitting without batting an eye. "That's him." It replied.
Scarlet frowned, shaking her head. "He used to be very happy..." She trailed off.
She used to be envious of him. She used to wonder how someone could smile so much, laugh so much, and radiate so much joy. So why?
"What happened to him?" She couldn't help but ask the only 'person' that could hear her at the moment. "Why is he so haggard? Why, why does he look so lifeless? Why... what's that thing he's holding?" She had a bad feeling in her heart.
Fateball stared at Carlos, who had pills clenched in one hand, water in the other as his soulless eyes looked into space. He seemed to be deep in thought, but he also looked like he was barely holding on. Fateball sighed heavily. "He's like this because of you." It suddenly said.
Scarlet's brows twitched. "What do you mean?"
"He became like this after Silvesta, your best friend gave him your diary after your death. He felt bitter that he couldn't be there for you when you needed someone the most."
"Why..." Scarlet was perplexed. Why would someone do so much for her? Her parents didn't even break this much because of her death...
"Why?" Fateball seemed to have heard a crude joke. "He's in love!" It shouted. "It was love at first sight for him."
Scarlet slumped on the ground, the word 'love' triggering something within her. She gripped her collar so tight she felt choked and she let out a scream. "Why? I wasn't worth it. He shouldn't have gone this far for me..." She shook her head. "No one ever loved me. My parents never did. My siblings never did... none of my friends ever saw me as someone significant. I don't even know him... He wasn't anyone important to me. So why?!" She screamed with a mixture of anger, hatred, and sadness.
She lowered her eyes, unable to keep looking at the shining figure that used to brighten her world. This was her idol, the only person she ever looked up to in her life. She was a little fan of his. A smile from him could keep her going for days--- So, how did it turn out this way?
"You can help him." Fateball's crispy voice resounded in Scarlet's ears. "Do you want to?" It asked.
Scarlet raised her head. Her red eyes mirror the fluffy ball rolling around her, and she nods her head. "I will do anything to save him." This was her responsibility.
Fateball nodded. "Then, come with me." It rolled on Scarlet's head, and the next moment, she felt like the world was spinning.
DING!
"Welcome to the first mission world!"
"Wait--- What?!"
Scarlet, who already knew about Lyn's plan, followed behind her without saying a word. The walk to Lyn's place wasn't too far, and with the memories of the original host in her head, she was confident she could return alone. So, when she saw that Lyn wasn't looking at her, she lowered her head and sent a message to her driver. "Pick me up in 20." She typed and sent. After that, she also searched for Klaus' contact on her phone and typed another message. "I don't want to see you for a while. I will use this moment to think deeply and make a decision. For now, I will stay at Lyn's." With a cold smile on her face, she sent the message. Lyn, on the other hand, was also typing a message to her father on her phone. She was secretly glancing at Scarlet, and seeing that Scarlet wasn't paying attention to her, she began typing messages to her father. "Have you prepared the things?" She typed and sent. Her fingers were trembling as she typed. Now that she was closer to her house, she cou
Scarlet pretended to sleep while she left Fateball on her shoulder to monitor everything that was going on around her. Fateball was invisible to everyone except her anyway. However, what she got made her tremble for a moment, and she nearly alerted Lyn. 'You mean she arranged a gang at her house waiting for me?' She asked in disbelief. Fateball nodded even though it knew Scarlet couldn't see. It found it hard to believe that humans could be so wicked. "Her father owes the gang a few thousand dollars, and they've been unable to pay. She asked the host for this morning before we crossed over..." 'But she stopped after all the changes that occurred with my coming over, right?' Scarlet asked. "You're right," Fateball replied. "So, now, she decides to give you to them as payment, and when they impregnate you, you won't have a choice but to stay with them to cover up your shame." Scarlet scoffed. "Stay with them? Isn't that nonsense? With my family's power and status, it won't cost
Scarlet couldn't help but hope no one would see them as she and Lyn left the school together. To make sure of this, she even turned down the help of her driver and left in a cab with Lyn. However, life wasn't always that easy. Just when she was about to enter the cab, she saw a figure step out of the black car parked in front of the cab. The figure was so familiar that she wouldn't miss him even in the dark, and her heart skipped a beat. Seemingly out of fear or excitement?Scarlet didn't know. The guy approached her with his hands in his pockets. His handsome features glowed powerfully under the evening sun. He stood before her and tilted his head calmly. "Where are you going?" His deep voice rang. Scarlet swallowed. No, she didn't mean to. But when she saw Cyn again, her body couldn't help but react strangely. She felt hot from within, and her eyes drifted to his pants involuntarily. Memories of a few d
Scarlet's eyes widened. '1000 reward points? Is that the same as the point you promised Mr. after I complete each word?' She couldn't hide her excitement. So much so that she even forgot about Lyn, who was staring at her at the moment. "No," Fateball replied. Scarlet deflated. "This reward point... I will explain to you later. You need to attend to the patient before you do." Fateball immediately reminded her. Only then did Scarlet return her attention to Lyn. Fortunately, her expression hadn't changed much during her interaction with Fateball. In fact, she looked sadder because of the reply she got. Lyn's eyes flashed. She wanted to push Scarlet away and curse her out, but she stopped herself at the last minute. How could she cut things off with Scarlet so easily? Scarlet was a fool, she could play with anybody she wanted. Someone who always gave her money, paid her fees, and even fed her family at times. She couldn't let go. She mustn't let go. Moreover, she had a gift pre
The slap resounded throughout the whole class, and silence followed. Everyone looked at each other, unable to say a word. Klaus staggered backward, his eyes widened, unable to say a word as he stared at Scarlet with disbelief in his eyes. Scarlet glanced at her hand, and a smirk quietly formed at the corner of her lips, but she repressed it and raised her head to look at Klaus. Tears formed at the rims of her eyes. "I'm disappointed, Klaus. Let's break up." She mumbled. Klaus' eyes flashed. She tried to hold her hand, but Scarlet stepped backward. "Scarlet, please, don't do this to me..." He cried out. He was unable to believe it. Scarlet wouldn't leave him so easily. She loved him so much that she'd been after him for so long. How could she leave him just when things became smooth between them?"I will change. I will never have anything to do with her anymore. Trust me, okay?" He pleaded as he looked at
Scarlet's word attracted the attention of the whole class. They looked at each other in dismay. Every one of them wondered what was going on. They had followed Klaus' eyes earlier and knew the person he was staring at was Scarlet. Maybe Klaus had been to Lyn in the past, but Scarlet had always pushed herself between them, making everyone know that she was obsessed with him. But now that Klaus was about to recognize her, she actually mentioned someone else's name? What was going on?Klaus was just as shocked. He looked at Scarlet with disbelief in his eyes. "What do you mean, Scarlet?" He asked. Lyn also looked at her. Her small hands were clenched as she turned her head to look at Scarlet, waiting for her response. Her breathing was heavy. She had initially been saddened by Klaus's intention to announce his relationship to everyone, but who would have thought Scarlet would embarrass her this way?She wasn't a fool. She knew Klaus would never choose her this way. The one with the
