LOGINScarlet stood by the side, watching as her family cried over her corpse. She stared at her body, which was about to be cremated, and her heart clenched.
She had been dead for two weeks, and in those two weeks, she had been forced to watch her family cry daily over her, her best friend breaking down every time she saw anything related to her, and even the people she rarely communicated with were all shedding tears when they heard about her death.
She had been feeling conflicted ever since then. Her mind wouldn't stop imagining scenarios of change. What if she hadn't died? What if she had fought with her parents when it all happened, if she had run away from home, if she had tried to be stronger... What if, what if, countless what ifs had been running through her mind, but it only annoyed her even more.
She hated to see her family cry over her. She hated the fact that she was the source of their sorrow when everything she ever wanted was to put a smile on their faces despite everything she'd gone through. She felt saddened when she watched her father faint and was unable to stop crying when he heard about her death...
This was the family she hated so much but loved just as much.
The same family that ruined her___, yet she loved so much.
"Hey, Scarlet!"
A round, fluffy creature nudged Scarlet, scaring her out of her thoughts. "Are you okay?" The creature asked.
Scarlet lowered her eyes to see the fluffy creature talking to her, and for a moment, she thought she was hallucinating. She stretched forth her hand and gently touched the creature only to rush back in fear. "What, what are you?" She stuttered, her eyes wide open.
The fluffy ball stared at Scarlet and rolled its eyes. "You look like you've just seen a ghost when you're a ghost yourself." It hissed. "Call me Fate Ball. I'm here for you." Fate Ball introduced itself.
Scarlet stared at the fluffy ball for a very long time without saying a word. Surprisingly, her mind was calm, and her earlier fear was nowhere to be found, but she just couldn't find a reason to converse with a strange creature. She returned to stand beside her younger brother, who had red eyes from crying, totally ignoring the fluffy ball.
Fate Ball rolled toward her in the air and watched with her, not saying a word for a moment. "Scarlet,'" it called.
Scarlet turned her head to look at it, not saying anything, but it was obvious she was listening. "Do you want to see something?" It asked.
Scarlet returned her gaze to her body, her arms wrapped around her chest as she ignored the Fate Ball.
"There's something you would like to see. It's my gift to you." Said the Fate Ball.
Scarlet ignored it.
"Really? Then, come see." It got excited.
Scarlet's heart skipped a beat, and she finally turned to look at the rolling ball again. "I'm not..." But she wasn't able to finish her sentence when she was pulled into a void.
Opening her eyes again, Scarlet realized her environment had changed. She looked around, perceiving the dusty smell of the new place while taking in the desolate aura that surrounded the place...
"Scarlet!" Fluffy ball shouted.
Scarlet calmly looked around, inwardly wondering why Fateball had brought her to this sort of place, but her wandering eyes soon fell on a figure at the center of the abandoned-like room. "Isn't that Carlos?" She asked with disbelief.
Fateball rolled over to the figure's side and nudged him, but the person remained sitting without batting an eye. "That's him." It replied.
Scarlet frowned, shaking her head. "He used to be very happy..." She trailed off.
She used to be envious of him. She used to wonder how someone could smile so much, laugh so much, and radiate so much joy. So why?
"What happened to him?" She couldn't help but ask the only 'person' that could hear her at the moment. "Why is he so haggard? Why, why does he look so lifeless? Why... what's that thing he's holding?" She had a bad feeling in her heart.
Fateball stared at Carlos, who had pills clenched in one hand, water in the other as his soulless eyes looked into space. He seemed to be deep in thought, but he also looked like he was barely holding on. Fateball sighed heavily. "He's like this because of you." It suddenly said.
Scarlet's brows twitched. "What do you mean?"
"He became like this after Silvesta, your best friend gave him your diary after your death. He felt bitter that he couldn't be there for you when you needed someone the most."
"Why..." Scarlet was perplexed. Why would someone do so much for her? Her parents didn't even break this much because of her death...
"Why?" Fateball seemed to have heard a crude joke. "He's in love!" It shouted. "It was love at first sight for him."
Scarlet slumped on the ground, the word 'love' triggering something within her. She gripped her collar so tight she felt choked and she let out a scream. "Why? I wasn't worth it. He shouldn't have gone this far for me..." She shook her head. "No one ever loved me. My parents never did. My siblings never did... none of my friends ever saw me as someone significant. I don't even know him... He wasn't anyone important to me. So why?!" She screamed with a mixture of anger, hatred, and sadness.
She lowered her eyes, unable to keep looking at the shining figure that used to brighten her world. This was her idol, the only person she ever looked up to in her life. She was a little fan of his. A smile from him could keep her going for days--- So, how did it turn out this way?
"You can help him." Fateball's crispy voice resounded in Scarlet's ears. "Do you want to?" It asked.
Scarlet raised her head. Her red eyes mirror the fluffy ball rolling around her, and she nods her head. "I will do anything to save him." This was her responsibility.
Fateball nodded. "Then, come with me." It rolled on Scarlet's head, and the next moment, she felt like the world was spinning.
DING!
"Welcome to the first mission world!"
"Wait--- What?!"
Scarlet had no idea how she slept last night, but she woke up with her hands on her belly. She looked around the room, searching for Cyn, but he was nowhere to be found, and her heart thumped. She sat up in bed and tried to climb down to look for Cyn. However, fateball suddenly appeared beside her, flapping its small wings. "Scarlet, Scarlet." It shouted, golden bubbles flowing out of its round mouth. Scarlet dodged to the side, avoiding the strange golden bubbles, and a disgusted expression was shown on her face. "Why are you screaming so early in the morning?" She asked. Fateball grinned and let out even more bubbles, which she intentionally made hit Scarlet's face. "Klaus... He's ruined." It was announced happily. Scarlet, who was still about to insult Fateball, had her words swallowed as she looked with bewilderment in her eyes. "What happened to him?" "He drank too much last night and got hit by a car. Do you want to watch it? I made a video of it." It had followed Klaus i
Klaus thought this wasn't real. He thought Scarlet would change her mind until he was dragged to the wedding by his friend, Ryan, who had been bribed by Scarlet. He watched from the side, his face haggard as his eyes followed Scarlet, who was being kissed by Cyn at the altar. Klaus shook his head. "This is impossible. This is impossible!" He screamed, attracting everyone's attention as he acted crazily. Ryan stepped aside, avoiding him. Klaus grabbed a man at the side and pointed to Scarlet, "She used to love me so much. She chased after me for so many years. How could she leave like this?" Klaus couldn't believe it was so painful. Watching Scarlet leave him to be happy with someone else... He felt his heart being torn from the inside out. He had always thought Scarlet would be there whenever he turned his head. He thought Scarlet would never love anyone else except him. Even when he was caught with Lyn in the music room, even when Lyn told him Scarlet no longer loved him, he s
Scarlet's mother had her eyes wide open. She couldn't believe what she heard. She looked at her daughter and shook her head. Maybe she heard wrong... "Baby, what did you say?" She asked with a forced smile. Scarlet opened her eyes. Her whole being was nervous as she tried not to look at her mother. The shadow of the past haunted her. What her original parents could have done to her at this moment kept playing in her head, and she paled. "I... I have someone I like and I want to marry him." She stuttered out. She knew she had no choice now. She already gave Cyn her word, and she wouldn't go back on it. Scarlet had her head lowered as she waited for her mother's reply. After a while, she heard the mother's cough. "I will talk to your father about this. But we need to see the guy first." The mother said. Scarlet was stunned. Her lips parted in a low gasp, and she looked on in disbelief. Looking at her mother again, she realized the woman still had a smile on her face and not a h
Scarlet woke up the next morning and found Cyn preparing the table at the center of the room. The breakfast seemed to have been served as the room was filled with a delicious aroma that washed off the lingering fatigue in Scarlet's bones. She forced her body up from the bed and dragged her feet toward the table. She didn't spare Cyn a glance as she rubbed her sore waist while she tried to sit without affecting her painful lower body. Cyn looked on. A helpless smile on his face as he watched Scarlet pick up her spoon to eat. He knew he'd gone too far last night. Maybe it was because of the rain, but he found it hard to control himself and could only stop when he realized Scarlet could no longer take it. Cyn's lips pressed into a thin line. This wasn't right...He couldn't be taking Scarlet without doing the proper thing. He wasn't taught that way.Cyn sat before Scarlet and served her food. "Scarlet, can I see your parents?" He asked eagerly. He'd never been so eager to do som
Cyn led Scarlet to the bed to rest. The rain had been falling for an hour already and while he might not have minded to sleep in the VIP room for the night, he didn't think it was proper to stay in a confined space with a woman. But for some reason, he didn't feel irritated. One of the things that confused him since he met Scarlet. He always wondered why Scarlet was different from other women. No lady had affected him the way Scarlet did... It was strange. But Cyn wasn't allowed to think too much as the rain poured more heavily. Scarlet was starting to shiver. Her brows knitted as she hugged her school uniform close to her skin. 'Fateball, why are my shivering so much? I used to love cold so much.' Scarlet felt like crying. She had never been scared of cold and instead hated heat with passion, but at the moment, she was shivering so much that her teeth were chattering. Fateball floated beside her. "This is not your body. The original host was born in winter, and her body has
Scarlet didn't expect Cyn to propose taking her out. With his indifferent attitude and awkwardness, she thought she would be the most forward in their relationship. She looked at the handsome figure before her, and a smile slowly formed on her lips. "Okay." She replied, took his hand, and walked away. She ignored the man whose eyes had turned bloodshot as he glared at their backs. Klaus couldn't believe someone would suddenly appear to snatch Scarlet away from him. When he saw Scarlet grab Cyn's hand and even smile so brightly at Cyn, he felt his heart plummet. He couldn't accept this. He was unwilling. He ran to his desk, picked up his bag, and ran out of the class. Scarlet, who was thinking about how to win the affection of Cyn, had no thoughts about Klaus. She barely even remembered he existed. She raised her head to look at Cyn, and she blinked. Her big bright eyes shone brilliantly under the evening light. "Where are we going?" She asked softly. Her voice was tender.
