The smell of disinfectant mixed with soap hit her nose. Her eyelids trembled as she slowly opened her eyes, only to close them again when the sharp light of the room hit her eyes.
She groaned, raised her hand, intending to rub her aching forehead, but a tingling pain at the back of her hand stopped her, and her frown deepened.
"Scarlet, Scarlet, you're awake!" A troubling voice of an elder reached her ears, confusing her even more.
'What's going on?' She wondered.
The voice she just heard belonged to her mother without doubt, but why did her usually nonchalant mother sound so scared? And why was she calling her name so stressfully?
Scarlet tightened her eyes, ignored her aching head, and recalled what had happened. She remembered helping her mother in the kitchen as it was time for dinner, but things suddenly became chaotic in her vision, her legs felt like they weighed tons, and her head felt light. She remembered falling back even when she tried so hard to hold herself, and she also remembered she heard a fading voice as her consciousness blanked.
Scarlet's eyes flew open, darting around in panic. The pure white of the room made her eyes sting, but she kept them open and tried to look around. The low sound of the monitor beside her bed finally woke her, and she whimpered as she turned her head to look at her mother, who was staring at her with eagle eyes.
"Mother..." She called, her voice cracking. She was scared. "Why?" She asked. She could see the paleness of her mother's face and the fear in her eyes.
She knew something had gone wrong. Her mother would never be this scared if she had only fainted.
'Do they know?' Her heart raced hard. Every breath hurt like hell.
A single tear rolled down her mother's face as she slumped back in her seat. "Why, Scarlet? Why did you keep this to yourself? Why did you never tell anyone? Do you, do you want to die so much?" Her face grimaced, pain evident in her voice.
Scarlet's heart clenched, and her eyes turned red. She looked away, biting hard on her tongue. 'Die? If it were so easy, I would have died long ago, Mum.' She thought, and a bitter smile hung on her lips. "I'm sorry, mum." She whispered. 'But, even if time rewound, I still wouldn't let anyone know.'
The door opened, and the sound of footsteps attracted Scarlet's attention. She saw a female doctor walking toward her with a smile. "Hi, Scarlet." The doctor said calmly. "I've discussed things with your parents..." She didn't even give Scarlet the chance to react. "They've paid for your heart transplant, and we will arrange it as soon as possible. Trust me, Scarlet. You will be out of this pain as soon as possible."
Scarlet's body trembled as she snapped her head to her mother. Her teeth gritted so hard that blood slowly sipped out of the corner of her mouth and panic washed over her. "No." Her voice was breaking. "No, mother, please." She pleaded.
'Please. Please, mother. Don't take this away from me, too. This, this is the only thing that keeps me going.' She cried inwardly.
"I don't want this surgery!" She cried out. 'What do I do when the pain is gone? How do I know I'm still alive without the pain?' Scarlet felt scared.
Her mother held her hand and squeezed it gently. "Scarlet, Scarlet, listen to me. I know you're scared but trust me, you will be fine. Your dad and I believe in you. You are strong, my darling." She tried to pacify, but Scarlet's heart felt like it would soon stop beating altogether.
She felt agitated. Not even her labored breathing stopped her from shaking her head incessantly. "I won't do the surgery. I won't!" She cried as her vision slowly turned blurry, and even her voice failed as she fainted.
MONTHS LATER...Scarlet, who had been living under watch for 4 months, was being wheeled toward the operating room with a listless expression on her face. She looked at her teary mother, her smiling father, and her crying siblings, and a bitter smile formed on her sunken face.
She looked away from them, trying her best to curb the growing irritation in her fainting heart. 'If only they cared this much before, I wouldn't have gone through so much pain. I wouldn't have been this broken. They don't. They really don't know how much I've cried. They don't know how long I waited for them to hold my hand. They don't know how much I wanted them to look at me and see how much I was struggling. I was so young... I was just 12... I needed them.' A painful tear rolled down Scarlet's face as she silently recalled her dark days. 'But it's been 9 years now. I no longer need anyone.'
She closed her eyes, pushing away her tears. She wouldn't cry. She had cried so much that she told herself she would no longer cry, and well... 'It's all coming to an end soon. Isn't it?' She smiled and lowered her eyes to look at her family.
"It's okay. Crying makes you look ugly. Don't cry." 'Don't cry. I've cried it all for you. You all don't deserve to cry anymore.'
"We won't cry, baby. Dad and Mum will be waiting for you here. We know you are strong, and you will survive this." Her dad comforted, showing Scarlet a warm look she had never seen in him before.
Scarlet nodded. 'Of course, I'm really strong. Isn't that the reason it hurt so much? I'm so strong that an overdose doesn't even kill me. I've closed my eyes several times, hoping I would be dead by the time I open my eyes again... Dad, your daughter is indeed uselessly strong.'
She slowly closed her eyes as the door firmly separated her from her family, and soon, she was put to sleep.
Scarlet had no idea how much time had passed, but she soon felt a familiar despairing feeling___ It was really similar. It was the same feeling she had when she took her last overdose after hitting her chest so many times. It was the feeling that made her feel like she was about to die___ which she later survived.
The loneliness, the fear, the despair that came with death...
Scarlet wondered, was she finally about to end it all?
"She's dying, doctor!"
"She's bleeding so much!"
"Wait..."
The voices faded away as darkness grabbed hold of Scarlet, and her consciousness gave in.
Scarlet shook her head, forcing back her tears and also forcing out a smile at the king. "It's okay, Dad. I'm not exactly angry.""That's good. My daughter isn't angry at me." The king smiled happily. "Dad will compensate you when the meeting is over, okay?" Her mood brightened. Having a father's love was everything she ever asked for... But beneath everything, Scarlet had to remind herself that it was fake. Her true father wouldn't care this way. The mission also had to continue. Scarlet nodded. "Dad, did something happen to any of my sisters?" She feigned ignorance. The king's smile died down, and he sighed heavily. "Yes, daughter. Your third sister disgraced the royal family." He clenched his fist. "He dared sleep with a man without proper marriage and even dared to deny it to the world." Scarlet silently listened. "If she had truly admitted it when she was caught, then we could have made use of that to lessen the humiliation she brought on herself, but she dared deny it.
Scarlet watched Lucien leave the room, and after resting for a while longer, she also left. She needed to return to the palace to meet her parents. Scarlet was certain about one thing, even though she wouldn't say she knew all the original host's desires, she knew the original host missed her parents dearly. Although Scarlet grew up without the love of her parents, always ignored and treated as if she didn't matter, she knew that most children in the world loved their parents. To fulfill the original host's wish, she wanted to see her parents and, at the same time, experience once again what familiar love felt like. Scarlet stopped a cab by the roadside, gave the man the address, and closed her eyes as she continued her thoughts. She missed the parents she had in the last world. No, she had been missing them for years, even in that world. The father died when Scarlet was only 40, and the mother died when she was 45. Though the presence of her brothers made her enjoy familial l
The door opened, revealing the alpha who had a large grin on his face. The moment his eyes settled on Scarlet, who was resting on the bed, the grin on his face grew bigger. "I've done what you asked." He dipped his hands into his pockets and stared at Scarlet with expectations in his eyes. Scarlet's creased brows slowly relaxed as she pushed back all raging thoughts. She smiled softly, and her lips parted, ready to praise the alpha. Perhaps the alpha needed some praise? But before she could say anything, she saw the alpha approaching the bed and standing too close to her. "What else do you need me to do?" "I've made you this way and can only compensate by dealing with your enemies for you." He shrugged, and his lips pressed into a thin line. "Don't feel burdened." Scarlet's lips twitched. She tried her best to control the hiss that was about to escape her lips. "Something else?"
Scarlet found herself dozing off as her mind wandered about whether the alpha had succeeded. Not like she doubted the alpha anyway. With his love for chaos, he would certainly ensure things worked out. Scarlet would never doubt that. But time was passing too slowly, and she was feeling too exhausted. Her body was sore from the activities, and her vision was becoming a bit blurry. She tried to keep her eyes on the door. She wouldn't be pleased if she ended up sleeping without receiving a positive report. Fortunately, the alpha didn't waste much time either. Scarlet soon heard voices outside the door and hurried to the sounds of footsteps. Her face immediately brightened. The sleep cleared away somewhat, and she struggled to sit in bed. She waited impatiently. The deed had been done, and the alpha should be back soon. Scarlet regretted working too hard earlier. She should have been able to see the drama with her eyes. "Wait, have you forgotten about me?" Fateball suddenly asked
Just as Scarlet was about to think of what to reply to the alpha, the sound of footsteps and noises sounded from the door, and her brows creased. She couldn't hear what was being said clearly due to the room's soundproofing, but judging by the numerous voices, she knew it was her third sister and the reporters making their way to the room she had left earlier. Her lips curled, showing a sinister smile as she looked toward the door. What could she do?Her third sister had prepared so many gifts for her. Would she have to waste it just like that? No, she had no such time. Scarlet returned her attention to the alpha, whose expression was unreadable as he stared at the blood in the bed. He seemed not to have expected Scarlet to be a virgin still. But that didn't matter to Scarlet. How many times...She shook her head, dispersing the sad memories that were about to creep into her mind. "Alpha..." She paused, and a slight frown formed on her face. She suddenly realized she had no ide
Scarlet felt like she'd heard wrong. Her heart raced violently, and she paled. This alpha knew one of her sisters? If that was the case, didn't that mean she still fell into their trap?Even when she tried so hard to escape. She still couldn't make an escape? Why?Why would things not change?Scarlet felt scared. Not because of anything, but because she didn't want to make the same mistake the original owner made. She knew how terrible it was for someone to fail. She'd failed so many times in her life that it had become traumatic to her. Even when she tried her best, she still failed...But she really hoped things were different in these fictional worlds. She really didn't want to fail. Especially when it came to giving herself to a man...She closed her eyes, suppressing the pain she felt from down there and her heart. The alpha kept slamming into her like he wouldn't stop until he penetrated her womb. His action was fierce, and the pain mixed with pleasure brought tears to
