LOGINThe moment she entered her luxurious apartment in the CBD, she broke down crying. She hadn’t expected to feel that way. Mia comforted her, holding her in her arms. She had waited for him for so long, when she finally moved on he decided to come back into her life. “Why now? It took me so long to get over hm. Now when I finally found someone new, he waltzes back into my life expecting me to what, take him back?” Amaya managed to get the words out between sobs. The memories started flooding her mind.
TWELVE YEARS AGO… “This carnival is amazing!” She looked over at Mia. She was excited because this was a special carnival and she wanted to go on all the rides. She and Mia had bought tickets for the different rides. “Let’s start over there.” She pointed to the roller coaster ride. They went to stand in the line. Later in the evening they went to the school dance. They were dancing and having fun, laughing and enjoying themselves. She suddenly looked over to the door. There in the door was this hunk of a guy, towering over everyone around him. She felt like time stood still as she could no longer hear the music playing. Everyone around her started fading away and all she could see was this handsome guy. Her heart started beating loudly and she felt an electric shock through her body. He looked at her and smiled, she smiled back. He started moving towards her. She was transfixed by him. “Maya! Maya!” She jumped back into reality. It was Mia calling her as she saw her friend lost in thought. She was still looking at him as he was walking her way. The girls all fawning over him, guys greeting him. She wanted to know who he was. “Who is that?” She uttered. “That’s Alex.” Mia responded. He was inching closer. This man was handsome, so handsome looking at him hurt. He was getting closer and closer. She couldn’t breathe… There he was right in front of her, his eyes locking in on her. Those smouldering sea green eyes. He smiled. “Hi, I’m Alex.” He reached out a hand at her. She looked at his hand and slowly reached out to shake his hand. She felt like she was moving in slow motion. “Hi, I… I’m Amaya.” He smiled again, making his dimples appear. This man was way too handsome and he carried himself in a way that made it known he knows how good looking he was. A blush crept up on her face, she smiled back at him. “Would you like to dance?” He asked. “Yes.” She responded. He took her hand in his, moved them over to the dance floor. Pulled her closer towards him until there was no space between the two of them. He whispered in her ear. “You took my breath away and I would like it back.” His breath tingled against her ear and her knees started getting weaker beneath her. “Oh, how original.” she retorted. He chuckled and pulled her closer, she could feel the vibrations throughout her body. Her head was against his chest, she could hear his heart beating, it was loud and fast. She wondered if she had the same effect on him that he had on her. He was tall, caramel skin coloured, broad shoulders with an amazing body. One could tell he was a sportsman. “Do you have a boyfriend?” His voice vibrated through his chest. “No.” She replied. “How about letting me be your boyfriend?” She looked up at him, he was watching her, waiting for a response. She broke free from him and took a step back. “We just met. I don’t know what type of person you are. He took her hand and led her outside to a quiet place where there was no one around. “I saw the way you were looking at me. I know you like me and you know I like you. What more do we need? As long as we both have an attraction to each other, the rest we can build slowly.” He bend down until he was face to face with her. “We can start by spending more time together, that way we will get to know each other better. Don’t you agree?” The more she thought about it the more she thought he was right. She liked him and she wanted to spend more time with him. “Okay.” She finally uttered. They both smiled He pulled her into his arms and held her tight. When he finally released her he took her hand and they headed back to the rides. They went on the different rides together, talking and laughing, enjoying themselves. They played games, he won her a teddy bear in a shooting game. They took photos together, exchanged BBM pins and made plans to see each other again the following weekend as they attended different schools and wouldn’t have time to see each other during the week. They BBM’ed each other everyday making plans for the weekends. They had a tumultuous relationship. When it was good it was great but when it was bad it would get real dark. They would fight every other day, both were passionate beings and both as stubborn as mules, which made it difficult to reach common ground but they were crazy about each other. They would also drive each other crazy. They were each other’s firsts of everything. First serious relationship, first kiss, first love, first times. They were each other’s worlds but also the one’s who could hurt each other the most. They shared every part of their lives. Their families adorned them and approved of the relationship and everyone thought they would end up getting married. They were each other’s matricball partners. They promised each other “forever”, they promised to always be together no matter what happened in life. They would always be there for each other and they were for two years until they matriculated. She was staring out at the beautiful ocean, taking in the beautiful view. The cool breeze, the sound of the waves reaching the shore. She and Alex had spent the day together. It had been the most perfect day. “Maya!” She looked back, it was Alex with their ice cream. He rushed over and handed her her ice cream cone. They stood looking over the ocean, listening to the waves. “I have something to tell you.” His voice was somber. She shivered at his tone. She turned to look at him. “Maya, I can’t be with you anymore.” It took her a while to process what he had said. Tears started welling up as she was totally blindsided and felt like someone had just knocked the wind out of her. “Why?” Was all she could get out. “I feel this is the best decision for both of us.” Tears started streaming down her face. “Take me home please.” Her voice broke. They walked back to the car, every step she took felt like she was walking on knives. Her body hurt, her eyes hurt and worst of all her heart felt like it was breaking more and more with each step.. She could no longer enjoy the ice cream so she threw it in the closest bin. Her mind was racing, she was trying to think where she went wrong, what could she have done to deserve this. She loved him so much it hurt and now she lost him and still had to be in his presence. She was trying to be strong but she just couldn’t. He tried talking to her on the ride home but she couldn’t pay attention, she was too hurt. The car stopped, they were in front of her house. She unbuckled the seatbelt, he took her hand in his. “Maya, please let me explain.” “Alex, I have nothing to say to you, not right now.” She turned to open the door, he got out on his side and jogged over to her side as she was getting out of the car. He stopped in front of her. “Maya?” He tried touching her, he stoped when he saw her flinch. “Goodbye Alex.” She walked past him and went into her house. She tried her best to calm down but she couldn't control her emotions. Everything was getting too much for her. She needed fresh air, she couldn't breathe anymore, she felt like she was getting a panic attack. She stood up and headed for the door, he followed her. Once she was outside she could feel the fresh breeze hit her face, it was a stark contrast to the heat that was filling her up inside. She started heaving as she was crying, she was totally out of control, her breathing was unsteady. She was bent over from being out of control and crying. He tried comforting her but she pushed him away, she needed space and he was not giving it to her. "Please, leave me alone. I need space right now." She tried normalizing her breathing but it was difficult to regain control of her emotions. She tried comforting herself by hugging herself and telling herself it was all okay. Everything was over, she was in a safe space. Finally after a few minutes she managed to calm down. Once she regained
He smiled, took her hand and walked to the nearest coffee shop. He led her to the table, placed an order for a Americano and a salted caramel Latte, her favourite he still remembered after all these years. Her heart skipped a beat, she was going to get a heart attack from this encounter she was certain. "I hope you don't mind me I ordering for you, I'm not sure if your taste has changed but I remember this was your favourite so I just ordered." He looked half shy, which she found very cute. She wanted to laugh at how cute he looked. "It's fine, it's still my favourite. Anything salted caramel." He smiled a boyish smile that melted her heart. Heavens this guy is too good looking for her heart every action he makes causes unrest in her heart. "You called me here to explain, I'm waiting." She gave him a stern look, as stern and serious looking as she could. She wanted to feel more in control, she wanted to feel like she was driving the conversation. He took a deep breath, he looked like
She was nervous, she hadn’t expected to feel this way. They had agreed to meet the following day. Which suited her perfectly, she wanted to get this chapter closed as soon as possible. James was away on business for the week, which was perfect as she couldn’t deal with explaining to him. She also didn't want to cause any misunderstandings with James. James was a sweetheart but he was also a very complicated person and took no nonsense, he was the cold CEO type. She was pacing up and down in the apartment’s TV room. She was trying to calm herself but nothing seemed to be working. Mia couldn’t be here today as she couldn’t get off at work. She however could decide the hours she worked as she normally had a lot of client meetings out of the office hence it wasn’t strange for her to be away from the office. She tried working to keep her mind and hands busy, however she failed to concentrate hence the pacing up and down. She had done her makeup twice, her hands were shaking quite a bit.
"Two years, we were together for two whole years Mia. He was my first love, we had that earth shattering kind of love. I was so devastated when he broke up with me out of the blue. It still hurts just thinking about it." She cried. "I thought we were going to spend the rest of our lives together, I mean you saw how happy we were together. We had our ups and downs but we had a great real love." She sobbed. She couldn't stop crying, Mia tried consoling her. “Are you going to see him again?” Mia asked. “I don’t know if I should. What if I go to see him and James is unhappy about it? I don’t want to do anything to hurt James. He has ben my rock, since we started dating. He made me believe in love again.” She replied. She managed to calm down. “I’m engaged to a wonderful man, he might not be perfect but he loves me and he shows me everyday that he loves me.” She turned to Mia. Mia took her hand and asked “Don’t you want closure? I saw your reaction when you saw him. There is still some

“Are you ready to let loose tonight?” Her best friend of 15 years Mia asked. Amaya was excited to get out as she didn’t go out with her friends often. She had gotten used to being a homebody and only going to events with her fiancé. She had always been an outgoing person but her fiancé James had mostly affected her and had her going out with friends seem like a taboo. He had introduced her into the ‘high society’ and had organised etiquette training for her. She had started to feel lost lately. She cared dearly for Liam, however she felt like she was losing a part of her by trying to fit in with him and his lifestyle. Hence she was ecstatic when she received the call from Mia asking her to come out for a night of fun to celebrate her promotion. She was really happy for her friend as she had worked hard to get to where she was today. She and Mia both studied public relations and had worked for rival companies. Mia had joined Cobult Entertainment and Amaya had joined Liam’s company
