He smiled, took her hand and walked to the nearest coffee shop. He led her to the table, placed an order for a Americano and a salted caramel Latte, her favourite he still remembered after all these years. Her heart skipped a beat, she was going to get a heart attack from this encounter she was certain. "I hope you don't mind me I ordering for you, I'm not sure if your taste has changed but I remember this was your favourite so I just ordered." He looked half shy, which she found very cute. She wanted to laugh at how cute he looked.

"It's fine, it's still my favourite. Anything salted caramel." He smiled a boyish smile that melted her heart. Heavens this guy is too good looking for her heart every action he makes causes unrest in her heart. "You called me here to explain, I'm waiting." She gave him a stern look, as stern and serious looking as she could. She wanted to feel more in control, she wanted to feel like she was driving the conversation. He took a deep breath, he looked like he was gathering his thoughts before he began speaking. "Maya, I know what I'm about to say might not seem like the truth and you might think that I'm lying but I swear every word is the truth. He took another deep breath. "Maya, back then... I... I was sick. I had to go abroad for treatment, I wasn't sure if I was going to make it or not. My chances of survival was less than 10%. My family wanted me to tell you they said you deserved to know but I was so scared back then." His voice broke, tears started rolling down his cheeks. She wanted to comfort him but she couldn't bring herself to do that as she was engaged to someone else. What if someone saw them hugging and it got back to James? That would ruin her relationship. He seemed to calm down as he took a deep breath. "Maya, I know me saying this now might be pointless but I really wanted to explain this to you. I really loved you back then. I still love you, a lot. I hope that one day you could find it in your heart to forgive me." She looked at him, trying to read his expressions. She wasn't sure what to say. What does one do in such a situation? She started thinking about what he said, trying to process everything.

"When did you find out you were ill?" She looked him in the eyes wanting to read every expression. "Two weeks before we broke up." "What were you diagnosed with?" She asked. "Cancer, a very rare type of Cancer. There wasn't really specialists available in the country that could treat it. Hence I had to go abroad." He replied. "Why did you break up with me? Why not tell me what you were going through? Did you not trust me or did you not have faith in me that I would be there for you? Do you know how that hurts? I truly loved you back then, you were my everything and something like that happened to you and you didn't want to share your pain with me? Is that what you call love?" She started raising her voice, luckily it was only them and the staff in the cafe. She started crying, she couldn't control her tears and her anger any longer. She loved him so much back then, she was so devastated when he broke up with her. She thought she had done something wrong. She had imagined so many scenarios but not once did she think it was because he was sick.

THE WEATHER WAS LOVELY, NOT TO HOT AND NOT TOO COLD JUST RIGHT. IT ALWAYS AMAZES HER HOW CAPE TOWN WEATHER CAN CHANGE IN AN INSTANT. ONE MOMENT IT IS RAINING THE NEXT MOMENT THE SUN IS SHINING, SOME PEOPLE SAY CAPE TOWN WEATHER IS LIKE A WOMAN'S MOOD, ALWAYS CHANGING. SHE WENT TO SIT DOWN AND PLACED HER CUP ON A COASTER ON THE COFFEE TABLE. SHE TOOK A DEEP BREATH IN AND SLOWLY BREATHED IT OUT AGAIN. SHE WANTED TO CLEAR HER THOUGHTS. SHE WAS HOPING THAT WAS ENOUGH TO FOOL HIM FOR NOW. SHE WAS THANKFUL HE WAS AWAY. SHE WAS SCARED HER FACE WOULD HAVE GIVEN HER AWAY. SHE HAD NEVER BEEN GOOD AT HIDING HER EMOTIONS ESPECIALLY FROM HIM. HE WAS VERY GOOD AT READING PEOPLE AND THAT HAS LEAD TO HIS SUCCESS IN THE BUSINESS WORLD. HE KNEW HOW TO CONNECT WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE AND COULD ALWAYS READ THEIR EXPRESSIONS TO KNOW IF HE WAS BEING LIED TO. "I'M SORRY TO HEAR THAT BABE, I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOU. TO HOLD YOU IN MY ARMS AND TO KISS YOU. I REALLY MISS YOU." HE SAID. "I MISS YOU, TOO." SHE RESPONDED. SHE DID MISS HIM. SHE WISHED SHE COULD BE HELD IN HIS BIG STRONG ARMS LIKE SHE ALWAYS DID WHEN SHE NEEDED COMFORTING. HE WAS HER SAFE SPACE. HE WAS HER ROCK, HER SAFETY NET. TEARS STARTED ROLLING DOWN HER FACE. SHE DID NOT WANT TO LOSE HIM. WHAT WOULD SHE DO WITHOUT HIM? WHAT W

"MY LOVE, WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG TO ANSWER THE PHONE?" JAMES ASKED ON THE OTHER END OF THE LINE. SHE WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HIS MOOD. SHE HAD HOPED THAT HE WAS CALLING HER JUST BECAUSE HE MISSED HER AND NOT FOR WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. SHE KNEW IF HE KNEW HE WOULD GO BERSERK. SHE HAD SEEN HIM ANGRY BEFORE, HE RARELY GOT ANGRY BUT WHEN HE DID IT WAS SOMETHING TO FEAR. ONE TIME HE HAD FOUND THAT SOMEONE CLOSE TO HIM HAD BETRAYED HIS TRUST AND SOLD COMPANY SECRETS TO A RIVAL COMPANY. HE WAS SO UPSET AND STARTED DESTROYING EVERYTHING IN THE SURROUNDING. HE HAD SPECIAL CONNECTIONS WITH THE UNDERWORLD; HOW SPECIAL SHE HAD NO IDEA BUT WHAT SHE DID KNOW. WHAT SHE DID KNOW WAS THAT THAT PARTICULAR PERSON WHO HAD BETRAYED HIM WENT MISSING ALONG WITH HIS FAMILY. SHE HAD TRIED PROBING HIM ABOUT IT BUT SHE NEVER GOT A STRAIGHT ANSWER OUT OF HIM. SINCE THEN SHE HAD ALWAYS BEEN VERY CAREFUL AROUND HIM TRYING TO ENSURE HE NEVER GOT TO THAT STATE AGAIN. ALAS HERE SHE WAS FRESH WITH BETRAYAL AND HE

BREAKING UP WITH YOU BACK THEN WAS A MISTAKE, IT BROKE ME MORE THAN YOU COULD REALIZE. BUT I WAS THINKING OF YOU WHEN I MADE THAT CHOICE. I WANTED YOU TO HAVE A HAPPY LIFE AND DID NOT WANT YOU BURDENED BY MY ILLNESS. I HAD NO GUARANTEE THAT I WAS GOING TO SURVIVE I WOULD RATHER YOU BE UPSET WITH ME OVER A BREAKUP THAN SPEND YOUR LIFE MOURNING ME. I THOUGHT WHAT I DID WAS THE RIGHT CHOICE AT THE TIME AND I AM TRULY SORRY FOR THE HURT THAT I CAUSED YOU."HE STEPPED FORWARD, TOOK HER HAND IN HIS. HE LEANED DOWN AND KISSED HER HAND GENTLY. She needed fresh air, she couldn't breathe anymore, she felt like she was getting a panic attack. She stood up and headed for the door, he followed her. Once she was outside she could feel the fresh breeze hit her face, it was a stark contrast to the heat that was filling her up inside. She started heaving as she was crying, she was totally out of control, her breathing was unsteady. She was bent over from being out of control and crying. He tried comforting her but she pushed him away, she needed space and he was not giving it to her. "Please, leave me alone. I need space right now." She tried normalizing her breathing but it was difficult to regain control of her emotions. She tried comforting herself by hugging herself and telling herself it was all okay.
