He smiled, took her hand and walked to the nearest coffee shop. He led her to the table, placed an order for a Americano and a salted caramel Latte, her favourite he still remembered after all these years. Her heart skipped a beat, she was going to get a heart attack from this encounter she was certain. "I hope you don't mind me I ordering for you, I'm not sure if your taste has changed but I remember this was your favourite so I just ordered." He looked half shy, which she found very cute. She wanted to laugh at how cute he looked.

"It's fine, it's still my favourite. Anything salted caramel." He smiled a boyish smile that melted her heart. Heavens this guy is too good looking for her heart every action he makes causes unrest in her heart. "You called me here to explain, I'm waiting." She gave him a stern look, as stern and serious looking as she could. She wanted to feel more in control, she wanted to feel like she was driving the conversation. He took a deep breath, he looked like he was gathering his thoughts before he began speaking. "Maya, I know what I'm about to say might not seem like the truth and you might think that I'm lying but I swear every word is the truth. He took another deep breath. "Maya, back then... I... I was sick. I had to go abroad for treatment, I wasn't sure if I was going to make it or not. My chances of survival was less than 10%. My family wanted me to tell you they said you deserved to know but I was so scared back then." His voice broke, tears started rolling down his cheeks. She wanted to comfort him but she couldn't bring herself to do that as she was engaged to someone else. What if someone saw them hugging and it got back to James? That would ruin her relationship. He seemed to calm down as he took a deep breath. "Maya, I know me saying this now might be pointless but I really wanted to explain this to you. I really loved you back then. I still love you, a lot. I hope that one day you could find it in your heart to forgive me." She looked at him, trying to read his expressions. She wasn't sure what to say. What does one do in such a situation? She started thinking about what he said, trying to process everything.

"When did you find out you were ill?" She looked him in the eyes wanting to read every expression. "Two weeks before we broke up." "What were you diagnosed with?" She asked. "Cancer, a very rare type of Cancer. There wasn't really specialists available in the country that could treat it. Hence I had to go abroad." He replied. "Why did you break up with me? Why not tell me what you were going through? Did you not trust me or did you not have faith in me that I would be there for you? Do you know how that hurts? I truly loved you back then, you were my everything and something like that happened to you and you didn't want to share your pain with me? Is that what you call love?" She started raising her voice, luckily it was only them and the staff in the cafe. She started crying, she couldn't control her tears and her anger any longer. She loved him so much back then, she was so devastated when he broke up with her. She thought she had done something wrong. She had imagined so many scenarios but not once did she think it was because he was sick.

  • HER CHOICE    THE MEET-UP

She was nervous, she hadn’t expected to feel this way. They had agreed to meet the following day. Which suited her perfectly, she wanted to get this chapter closed as soon as possible. James was away on business for the week, which was perfect as she couldn’t deal with explaining to him. She also didn't want to cause any misunderstandings with James. James was a sweetheart but he was also a very complicated person and took no nonsense, he was the cold CEO type. She was pacing up and down in the apartment’s TV room. She was trying to calm herself but nothing seemed to be working. Mia couldn’t be here today as she couldn’t get off at work. She however could decide the hours she worked as she normally had a lot of client meetings out of the office hence it wasn’t strange for her to be away from the office. She tried working to keep her mind and hands busy, however she failed to concentrate hence the pacing up and down. She had done her makeup twice, her hands were shaking quite a bit.

  • HER CHOICE    WHAT NOW?

"Two years, we were together for two whole years Mia. He was my first love, we had that earth shattering kind of love. I was so devastated when he broke up with me out of the blue. It still hurts just thinking about it." She cried. "I thought we were going to spend the rest of our lives together, I mean you saw how happy we were together. We had our ups and downs but we had a great real love." She sobbed. She couldn't stop crying, Mia tried consoling her. “Are you going to see him again?” Mia asked. “I don’t know if I should. What if I go to see him and James is unhappy about it? I don’t want to do anything to hurt James. He has ben my rock, since we started dating. He made me believe in love again.” She replied. She managed to calm down. “I’m engaged to a wonderful man, he might not be perfect but he loves me and he shows me everyday that he loves me.” She turned to Mia. Mia took her hand and asked “Don’t you want closure? I saw your reaction when you saw him. There is still some

  • HER CHOICE    YOUNG LOVE

The moment she entered her luxurious apartment in the CBD, she broke down crying. She hadn’t expected to feel that way. Mia comforted her, holding her in her arms. She had waited for him for so long, when she finally moved on he decided to come back into her life. “Why now? It took me so long to get over hm. Now when I finally found someone new, he waltzes back into my life expecting me to what, take him back?” Amaya managed to get the words out between sobs. The memories started flooding her mind. TWELVE YEARS AGO… “This carnival is amazing!” She looked over at Mia. She was excited because this was a special carnival and she wanted to go on all the rides. She and Mia had bought tickets for the different rides. “Let’s start over there.” She pointed to the roller coaster ride. They went to stand in the line. Later in the evening they went to the school dance. They were dancing and having fun, laughing and enjoying themselves. She suddenly looked over to the door. There in the doo

  • HER CHOICE    HIM

“Are you ready to let loose tonight?” Her best friend of 15 years Mia asked. Amaya was excited to get out as she didn’t go out with her friends often. She had gotten used to being a homebody and only going to events with her fiancé. She had always been an outgoing person but her fiancé James had mostly affected her and had her going out with friends seem like a taboo. He had introduced her into the ‘high society’ and had organised etiquette training for her. She had started to feel lost lately. She cared dearly for Liam, however she felt like she was losing a part of her by trying to fit in with him and his lifestyle. Hence she was ecstatic when she received the call from Mia asking her to come out for a night of fun to celebrate her promotion. She was really happy for her friend as she had worked hard to get to where she was today. She and Mia both studied public relations and had worked for rival companies. Mia had joined Cobult Entertainment and Amaya had joined Liam’s company
