Elementary Students

The door to her first class was open, and she nervously slipped in. Her eyes scanned over the students gathered in the classroom. Chatters went on between them, and Sylvia quietly walked over to the seat in the back, sitting down carefully.

Dramatically, all of a sudden, silence fell in the classroom, and Sylvia now had multiple pairs of eyes directed towards her. Each showed varying emotions— ranging from shock to amusement. Being the center of attention made Sylvia feel awkward, and she arched up her eyebrows questioningly.

The girl seated before her turned to face Sylvia. Her auburn hair was neatly braided, and a pair of glasses sat above her small nose. Faint freckles spread over her cheeks, making her appear cute.

She spoke out, “You must be new. That seat—”

Before she could carry on, the girl beside her interrupted her.

“What Marie was saying is that welcome! Your face is certainly one that I don’t recognize. So, who are you?”
